Am wowed by your explanation, and your reasoning. I graduated med school back in 2014. Now that i moved here in US, Am trying to pass my step 1. Within One year from now. Any guidance from where and what to do? Much thx
Took assessment test couple month ago was very disheartened by the results was blow 140, if i could recall. But a have a lots of holes in my concept especially neurology, renal, cardiology embryology, anatomy statistic, and epidemiology
We have worked with a lot of people who have started in similar places and helped them to get to passing. The key is to follow the framework, specifically making sure that you can make your scores go up - and STAY up - in just one topic, mastering the material, using spaced repetition PROPERLY to never forget it, and learning to apply it to questions. Once you can do it once, it becomes MUCH easier to do it again (and again and again).
Hey Alec! Thank you for this amazing video. I am stuck at 50-55% on my NBMEs I have completed U world and I don’t know how to increase my score Would love your advice on this.
Thanks for your kind words and support! Without working with you directly and seeing how you're studying, it's hard to know exactly what the problem is. In my experience, however, most people who have done an entire QBank and are still below that low-pass range typically are struggling with the Study Conceptually or Commit to Memory aspects as their biggest bottleneck/areas for biggest improvement. Are you finding yourself not really sure how you should study things that you are learning, and doing things that have helped you in prior exams in med school (e.g., doing a fair amount of passive reading / rote learning / etc.) but that don't seem to work as well for the USMLEs? If so I'd focus more on making sure that you understand things conceptually.
@@alec.palmerton_md I am struggling with the things I should do to improve. Should I read FA again or should I do the Q bank again? From what I have learned after giving NBMEs is that in some questions, I don’t remember but I am aware of the topic. In some questions my concepts are weak and some I am purely making silly mistakes and second guessing.
You're asking a natural "what" question - as in "what resource should I use next?" Frankly, in my experience, the more important thing to do is to focus on the "how" questions - how should you read FA, how should you approach questions, how you study things that you don't know, how you use things like Anki to work on the retention. Here are some videos on the topics that can help: ua-cam.com/video/Gm8ytdNPjzo/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/itJJpOWY9Aw/v-deo.htmlsi=GwguDi67UWedjrZM Hope this helps!
My problem is how to see those concepts behind the questions??? My professors don’t explain well and resources like Onlinemeded and BNB are not good for explaining the concepts they are concise and just go over topics they are not made for the deep explanation that I am looking for to really understand the concept. How do I find dr that explain well Internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics?? I am very very poor in those subjects and don’t know what to do 😢😢😢
Thank you for such a thoughtful question. I'm planning on doing a video about how to see the concepts yourself in the future. For now, have you checked out some of the other videos on the channel? If not, here are some ones that can help you see some of the concepts behind topics: ua-cam.com/video/BFeUPKQyjsM/v-deo.htmlsi=CO47jvKfWzjFY_x8 ua-cam.com/video/-cYQuv5YsBg/v-deo.htmlsi=QqwCYPmPqeyBtDWd ua-cam.com/video/jXBqafalGRI/v-deo.htmlsi=-Xw5Bkh_C_ZuUMml ua-cam.com/video/cwW3Qef7Pa0/v-deo.htmlsi=gYoAZzlytDlvzDFP
