    That looked really tough Patrick. Big Balls running that race....regardless of placement.
    Congrats on finishing and knowing you limits. You get to ride another day my friend (after some healing) .
    I really do appreciate you taking the time to put these videos together for us.
    Are you planning on competing in the Miles of Discomfort? Talk to you soon.

    Yes.....I got stung the same way one time on Rotor Smoke! I found you can't go too far left or your front tire slides off a couple of rounded sniper rocks 😱.....thanks for showing the good the bad and the ugly lol

      Maximos Morgan LOL, for real! That crash in the waterfall had me VERY thankful. I’ve watched that feature just toss people around like rag dolls!

      Thanks! They've done some work in a few sections that were really getting chunky. The trails were running sooo mint that day!

    Great video sir! What tire combo were you running? Is that what you would recommend still, or would you change it up?

      I was running the Maxxis Minion DHF 2.5WT (front) and Maxxis Minion DHR2 2.4WT (rear). Since then, I have switched to the Michelin Wild Enduros and I haven't looked back. Some people love that Maxxis combo but they just didn't work for me. For most people, tire choice is a personal preference based on a myriad of variables. Here's a link for the comparison video I did. ua-cam.com/video/HCrfqEes9xc/v-deo.html

    Awesome vid. Thanks for posting honest crashes. It really helps those of us with less skill remember to stay safe while improving! I don't think I've watched your channel before... what bike do you ride? I've watched a lot of UA-cam MTB but never saw anybody's hydro disc brake malfunction like that, so I'm wondering if that is a bike model to avoid if/when I'm ready to upgrade my ride. Then again, the trail is called Rotor Smoke, right?

      Thank you and welcome!! The frame is a 2019 Santa Cruz Bronson. It was a custom build from the frame up so it's spec'd differently than what you'd find on Santa Cruz's website. With most bike brands, the frame is the only thing that the manufacturer/brand designed and built. All the other components (brakes, drivetrain, seat post, handle bars, etc) are usually produced by other manufacturers and are typically "off the shelf" items; meaning not specialty or custom. So, the bike brand/model didn't have anything to do with the front brake failing. They had been on the bike since it was built, about 1.5 years ago, and have seen lots of action and miles. As with all components, eventually they wear out and that's what happened here. The brakes were Shimano XT 4 pistons and I've never been anything but thrilled with them. So, I just replaced the lever with the exact same thing!

      @@lonestarmtb6799 Excellent failure analysis report! I understand, no worries about the Shimano XT brakes. But now you bring up another thing that makes me wonder. I read that you can get bargains buying used mountain bikes. But just looking at a bike, especially if the seller cleaned it and put on a new set of tires, it would be hard for me to tell how many miles are on it. Not only that, I really have no idea how many miles components should get before being replaced. No need for your to reply; just kinda thinking out loud. I've learned a lot about bike tech, but there's still a lot more to learn! Thanks for your brake comments!

      @@barkingmadman1169 There are some great deals to be found on used bikes. Especially ones that were only used for a season or even bike park rentals. Personally, I prefer new because it eliminates most of the variables. However, I wouldn't have any issues buying used from a local rider that I know and trust. It's kind of like buying a used car. You just know that certain things will show evidence of use and you factor that in. Cheers!

    I was there on Friday; good fun. Shame they can't work that drop under the lift into another trail. Why the different names for the trails?

    • @lonestarmtb6799
      @lonestarmtb6799  4 роки тому +1

      Eric Stone “Rotor Smoke” and “Black Sabbath” were the original trail names before Spider was open to the public. Spider changed the names to go with the “spider” theme.
