You legend, just seen this after getting back from Wales where my passenger window decided to disappear! Window regulator had disintegrated and it dropped into the door panel. A bit of cardboard, a bin liner and gaffer tape and a noisy drive back to cornwall later I found you vid and the stress has lifted... This calls for a rum etc. I raise my glass to you, cheer bud.
@@j.dmalone6544 pop the handle guard , there is 2 screws there. On the opposite side of the lock thing there is a lonely screw. And then on the bottom take kk of the screws and hit pop the inside panel from Bottom to top and disconnect the cables
Lol, thanks man. My window was running slow so I picked up a new system at the wrecker. Was about to search you for a tutorial, and bam! You knew what was up! Lol
Thanks for the video! If your plastic bits have broken and the parts are still at the bottom of the door you can reassemble them. Super Glue and baking soda! reconstruct them around the "metal clamps that hold the window" use a toothpick to get baking soda into all the gaps and then drop in several drops of the glue...you don't even have to be neat about it (except be weary of the areas where the cables connect and the areas where you clip it back onto the rails). When I was done a had the plastic bit completely locked onto the metal part like they were one piece...probably stronger than the poorly designed original. I was so happy I didn't have to wait a week for parts to come in the mail.
Thank you for the how-to video. This gave me the confidence to do this repair. I'd recommend a metal upgrade part over the stock plastic. Cheers! from USA!
Hi Boydie, give me your 2 cents: The door lock mechanism on my Golf IV is in the shites. I usually need 3 attempts just to close the damn door, and now the rubber wrap on the lock is missing so it sounds like a 2CV when I shut the door, which is pitiful when the rest of the car is in such good shape. Do I really need to gut the door, remove glass window and all just to replace it? It's such a time and patience consuming job, that door panel must come off once every month ffs. Glad to see you back, these videos are gold!
That's the same for us. Even by pushing BOTH springs in, we can only JUST get both nubs in the plastic thingy, but no room to get them twisted around. We noticed that two of the OUTER cables, the diagonal, and the upper one were quite a bit longer than the original, thereby shortening the length of the inner cable that you have available. The upper one is 5" longer and the lower one 4" longer. I was able to reuse the original diagonal cable and it looks like it might fit now, but then that would appear to make it uneven!
Hello buddy found your videos very helpful just wondered have you got a link for the plastic bits you replace in this vid or even the part number as I'm not sure what to search for
unplugging the door lock loom was a conundrum until I worked out where the clip was. A small thin bladed screwdriver angled into the slot facing the inner door skin.
Awesome video! I may be doing this on our second car later in the week. :( This will help a ton. The links are broken though. IF you can update them and get credit for directing sales, let me know so I can use a link to place an order to get you credit! Thanks!
Another method to do the cables is to somehow fully compress the springs going into the winder, then feed the inner cables around the 4 outer rollers (there is the cutout in each roller to assist fitment). Then after loosely fitting 3 of the 4 outer cables, simply pull quite hard the last outer cable into its place (top left i prefer). Release the springs afterwards.
does anyone happen to know the part numbers for these clips? mine broke in my drivers side window today in my mk4 jetta due to the severe cold, the links in the description are broken
Hi there amazing videos thanks! But I cannot see the link in the description for how to remove the metal inner panel to access the glass once you have got the outer panel removed?? I'm at that stage now but cannot find this video, can you help?
@@spencermudie No I didn't manage to remove the inner metal panel but I did manage to access the glass through a couple of holes in the metal panel and lift it back up into place. But that's as far as I got and then I sold the car and bought a new one! Good luck!😀
Something I'm not sure yet, for each door, the clips are the same? I mean, on the driver's door, both clips are exactly the same or they are different?
I've found that the Bowden cables also snap on this type of mechanism. Great vid man learnt a lot by watching you. Are you a trained mechanic or just a self learnt guy?
I have the golf 7 and my driver side window rattles when I closed the door with the window open. However when it's closed there is no rattle. I assume there is a thing I need to tighten in the door to correct this?
Both my white plastic clips sheared last night (Saturday) so GSF or Euro's not open today (Sunday) So....don't laugh anyone....but I offered up the sheared parts first. On both clips cut very small v grooves with a hacksaw - 2 at the top and two at the bottom. Superglued the clips back together and let them dry....then wrapped loads of cotton into the v grooves I'd made and half way through put superglue on the cotton...more cotton then more superglue. Kind of looked like black rubber bands once I'd finished. Pushed in the metal glass carriers and that was it, they stayed in / tight into the white clips. Cotton and superglue sets rock hard, so for now all is well....but for how long???? lol Total cost.....zero! wooohooo! The amount of cotton used was probably about 3 meters per clip. You get loads of wraps because it's so thin, kind of ties the clips back together. Good method for strong repairs....I hope.
ive got a question for you bmac i changed my door over recently an changed it to the old door lock module and barrel but am not getting no central locking on front doors with keyfob but am on the rears and the windows wont work on the front either can u shed any light for me atall as cant seem to get any info of the internet
Yo dude u do brilliant instructional videos ♥ Any chance u could do one for a B6 2009 BlueMotion 2.0tdi 3c2 drivers door, window regulator from beginning to end please. Would be deeply appreciated. Respect...
This was pretty helpful, it would have been a great deal more helpful if your elbow had not been in the way of the view when you were showing the technique on flipping it over. Would have been helpful to see how you were actually holding the cables in position.
Tried this with two of us today - one compressing the springs the other feeding in the ends of the cables to the new clips, but every time we try to twist the clip round, one of the ends pops out - am I missing something? Our cables appear to be under so much more tension than yours. Please help!!
i have a similar problem on my 01' golf - the windowmotor did a bunch of crazy noises and then the window just got stuck. any advice? - is it something to do with the clips or motor?
Hi mate, if I lower my offside window and then raise it to close, before it reaches the top it'll suddenly lower itself and won't raise even though I've got my finger under the power switch in raise position, lol, any ideas as to why please?
I'm having trouble getting the window back onto the metal clips. It's just difficult trying to tighten the bolts for the clips to keep in place the window
The most important part - how to remove the door panel cover is missing... You absolutely do not have to take everything apart. All that is needed is to loosen the screw in the clip fit the glass in, lift it up and position it make sure it's as it should be and tighten it. That's it
No link in the description and can't find anything about inner panel removal in your vids! Good video though, just having trouble getting to this step!
This is not the link viewers are asking for. You said you would post a link regarding how to remove the inner metal door panel. Where is "that"link? Thanks!
It seems to me that the hardest part of this is safely detaching all the cables (mine are tied and routed to 8 or 9 guides) and i can't see what they attach to behind the panel... How to safely detach the lock/unlock indicator, wiring harness, etc.. The video just zips right past that part.
Some of these must be made differently because my 04 has these rubber black things that hold the window and they loosen over time and let go of the glass panel.
