I remember my mum having one of these when they came out, and I loved borrowing it, and my daughters first car was one of these, bought for 100 quid. I used to grab her keys if I was popping across my local country bends as you could just have fun in them. Dive a 10/10ths feeling you're doing 100 when doing 40, something you just can't do in even a 200bhp car on our small roads.

I used to work at Ford in the 90's when the Ka first came out, i have SOOO MANY STORIES OF THE KA that it would BLOW your mind that you wouldn't BELIEVE them true... until 30 minutes in i could bet your on your phone looking for one...they are mind-blowing and i have soo many great memories of the extremes i pushed them.
It's always a great Overdrive video when Will gets both beeped and blurred 😂 In my college days a few friends and I would frequently off roading in the deserts outside of Phoenix in Arizona with a little Geo Metro. Similar terrain but without the water and vegetation. The best part was that when we'd get stuck it wasn't terribly difficult for us to lift the thing over the obstacles just enough to get going again. This series really brings back the memories!
Its amazing how far you can get in a vehicle you don't care too much about breaking, that is super light, has a short wheelbase and hardly any overhang. That pickup was so long that its breakover angle isn't great and the rear overhang is huge. Those double wheels put a lot of work in and I am amazed that you only punctured one. The mighty KA cannot be stopped! At least on the downhills that is. I have done offroading quite a bit in a 4runner and it is always hilarious seeing some old thrashed car get through something it has no business being on. The main this is how comfortably it will do it and how much I trust each one to get me home at the end of the day.
I will argue that the Mk1 Ka and the Mk2 Focus were the 2 best cars Ford of Europe ever made. I mean cars, not specific models like XR's, ST's and RS'.
Okay, I think the only thing to do now is to properly make that ka offroad ready. Like the proper offroad suspension, tires, wheels and maybe some power boost!
i remember when those first came out, i thought it looked like a fun little car. i liked the first gen focus, and this, to me, was basically a miniature focus. now i know that it's actually cross-bred with a humvee
The reason why Ka seems so good against that 4x4 is because of much shorter wheel base. Basically, the only thing that pickup has against the Ka is the 4 wheel drive. Other than that, they are on the same level for off roading.
KA is the car which Tiff teaches the Scandinavian flick in. It has always been perceived as a sporty car in my mind. Everyone should check out what magic Tiff could do with this car
Honestly something you guys should do is repair the KA and mod it much like you have with the PT cruiser. Despite how ugly the cruiser is. They could be a pair of unique hatchbacks or two sides of the same coin.
So as a person who’s actually owned 2 of these kas now I have a stupidly soft spot for them my last one was £200 and she went proper green laning and never once broke punctured a hole in the sump or anything they’re such reliable fun little cars
Many years ago I had a mid 90's Chevy Cavalier. Just a little FWD POS. I took that car so far into trails that almost everyone I'd see would look at me crazy then ask how I got it back there! Small vehicles are good off road!
To be honest, I was actually pulling for the Ka since you pitted it with the other two cars, partially because it was in good hands with Scott and his experience, but this video has far exceeded any expectations I had.

The KA needs to comes back for a future challenge. I hope it can receive proper upgrades at some point...Did someone say turbocharged drag racing KA? I mean it's running out of things to do at this point it done track, rally and off roading. This thing needs to be in a museum it's earned it.
The Ka is the definitive Car out there, utter beast of a little machine. I'd unironically love to see it modified with proper Off-road Kit and see what eventually stops it.
for offroading you need: a short wheelbase, short turning circle the smaller the car, the better it is minimum weight high ground clearance low tire pressure a good spotter, more important than the driver 4x4 is nice to have a pick up is nearly nothing of it, very long, heavy, turning circle like a bus, the KA fits relatively good - take an old fiat panda 4x4 and you are nearly unstoppable on those tracks. When you are in need of a few tons of equipment on your journey, then you would use an old defender or pick up truck instead of a fiat panda (or a KA)
Did you put any sort of sump guard on it? I do some gravel Autosolos and K11 Nissan Micras are very popular for those. Cheap as chips, throw on a set of used gravel rally tyres and a sump guard and you're away. Road signs are great for making sump guards. They're aluminium/plastic laminates and you can literally find them everywhere. Usually have to acquire them at night though, unless a local yokel has knocked a couple down with his pickup/tractor on the way home from the pub.

You should give it proper orr-road suspension and tires and maintenance. With no additional power. Then, keep having it come back for any orr-road challenges you come up with in future videos. The one that always makes it while KAckling!
i had a Ka 1.3 and in the summer it would overheat NON STOP, changed the water pump, changed the thermostat and thermostat housing with new gasket, still overheated. No mayo either. Theyre fun cars, but i hate that they have no water temp gauge inside the car
