I’ve now developed this entire backstory for Gary and it involves this security job either being his dream job or the one thing in life that’s holding him back. I think you should walk up to his desk sometime and just say “hey, Gary! Nice to see you again!” and see if he chills out at all.
I was also wondering if he’s lonely cause I know some people like this where if you find out something about their life and make a point to ask them about it the next time you see them, they chill out. It’s frustrating when they have power like this over your life, but it’s also sometimes unavoidable
I feel like he's either passionate about security based on trauma or is a fired ex-cop power-trip bully. There is no in-between. Gary will either be the hero on a disaster or the one who planted the bomb.
@@Kaalyn_HOW yeah I feel that. I used to work in a job that had me have to go to court a lot and a lot of the security officers at the court house were like that. Failed their attempts to join the military or police force and had a chip on their shoulders.

Our whole family does a Christmas list. It isn’t just you Colleen. I understand Erik’s point of view but I find lists helpful!

Also, as someone who used to work at Marshall’s, there technically are “departments” and yes, we do get merchandise every. Single. Day. And they expect us to put it out perfectly out on the sales floor 🙃 and it is absolutely crazy the amount of people that will drop like $400/$500 on just random stuff. Especially Christmas decor. And that caramel corn had most DEFINITELY been on the shelf for 20 years, Colleen

I really enjoyed this podcast. Erik makes me really laugh. I’m in the East too and the stories he tells you are 100% correct. Like Halloween eggs! LOL. And we don’t make lists.
I worked at Marshall's as a sales associate and a Key Carrier for 4 years and literally no matter how much we cleaned it there was always just shit everywhere. Often times our whole shifts were just dedicated to cleaning up and putting things where. they belong and in like 2 seconds someone had moved it or dropped it or broken it lmfao. Our stockroom would look the same because when they send in trucks literally nothing is organized when they send it and we have to sort it into departments.
And we do have name brands 😂
The Gary story is killing me because there was a security card at Disneyland that worked at the cast member gates (actually Colleen he may have been there when you worked there!) and he ALWAYS has cookies for the cast members and he’s literally everyone’s favorite security guard, but he definitely had some of the same “make yourself look really busy and important” vibes. 😂😂😂
start greeting Garry by name. Everytime. Start learning details about his life that you can, so you can be like "Hey, Garry. How's X working out." let him do his thing, but keep super personal with him. he'll hate it.

TJ maxx employee here ! Yes. We get merchandise every single day, and they expect us to make it look so good in the floor when we literally have no more room for anything and our departments have buckets of merchandise in the back that can’t possibly fit on the floor. It’s insane and weird, and the back room team works really hard I love all of those people their great. It’s absolute chaos shopping there and working there 💀💀 for 11$ an hour at that
I worked at Ross for a year and let me tell you every tjmaxx I’ve been in has been HEADS AND TAILS ahead of Ross in terms of organization. Also so many people tried to use their Marshall’s credit card or gift card at Ross and I had to break the news that we are not in fact tjmaxx 😔

As someone who worked at HomeGoods, it's absolutely insane how quickly items are stocked on the floor and sold. It seems like piles of trash but it'll never be the same pile that you see twice. And we never kept merchandise in the back so it always seemed even more cramped.

I recommend for your next podcast to do a "stream of consciousness", don't worry about making it 'content worthy'. You can record the ads before so that it doesn't feel unauthentic for you guys. I love hearing the relationship between you two and your fun stories, it would feel like a nice hangout!
Colleen, I'm with you on this one girl. I brush my teeth IMMEDIATELY when I wake up. It's literally the first thing I do and I cannot do anything until it's done. I totally agree with you!
This has nothing to do with the podcast but I’m going to cry when the twins come home. Also following Colleen is so much better than keeping up with the Kardashians.
My family is the exact same way with the Christmas lists. Everyone has to make one, even all the adults. It’s very helpful for big families.
I agree with Colleen, brush your teeth FIRST thing when I wake up. If I don’t, I feel gross until I can brush. You guys are adorable!! Just remember this stressful time is temporary and is so short in the big picture of your sweet babies lives. I truly live by the saying “ the days are long but the years are short while raising Kids”. Can’t wait for your days at the NICU to be done. Sending you ❤️.
I’m 100% with Colleen when it comes to brushing my teeth first thing in the morning. I wake up wanting water so bad but i have to brush my teeth first because i HATE how my mouth feels in the mornings omg😂

Marshall’s and tj-max is literally the up front black market! I’ve been saying this for YEARS Erik!!!!
Also we have separate Marshall’s, tj-max, and Home Goods in our town in all different parts of town. I thought they weren’t the same company at all. Home goods is super fancy and the stuff is expensive and everything is laid out nicely like an interior designer was up in there. However the Marshall’s and tj-max are practically the same store with amazing deals and always have brand name stuff. The food is horrible, yes Colleen. They are across town from each other though.

I agree with Colleen on the list and brushing your teeth. Having a list makes getting gifts so much easier with a big family instead of getting them something hat you think they might like, you can get them something that you know they will like. And I also have to immediately brush my teeth. I hate that morning breath feeling and I have to brush my teeth before anything else.
For Erik’s list you should add stuff for the new jeep. t-shirts with dad jokes. Something he can use to carry the twins around and be hands free. Wine/alcohol related gadgets. A new robe for jacuzzi’ing. Skincare for men and face masks (provide brand name). A very nice non glittery Christmas ornament 🤭.
I am just here to say I deeply love the Gary conversation. I love Gary, I love you guys, I love how serious he takes his job and the dynamic with his less intense coworkers. I totally sympathize your issues with him but it's great how you guys are taking it in stride and laughing about it. I am tearing up you guys made me giggle so hard.
Gary sounds like such a character. Those kinds of people give color to my life 🥲 Although they’re less fun when they’re unavoidable.

Our family did lists and drew names when the only two youngsters (I was the only one of Mom and Dad's four kids to reproduce) were my now 40-year-old sons. So few of us are left that we've foregone gifts except for immediate family. I want to express how wonderful watching you as a marital unit has been. Erik is so utterly respectful, supportive and a master communicator. The love between you tugs so hard at my heart because my husband was so like Erik and I lost him just before our 25th anniversary to cancer. I love seeing you treasure one another. I wish you many many more years with your gorgeous children and each other. It's been 23 years and I STILL feel that loss every day. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Keep on lovin'! It helps us all!

I am with Colleen, I am 43, and me and my family have always made lists. It makes it so much easier to buy gifts for a big family. We also celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas so lists are essential! I love you guys so much and have you and your family in my prayers!
Christmas lists are totally done in other families! My family has always had lists. When we were younger it was just general things, but now we'll send each other specific links to make things easier for each other.

I’m with you, Colleen - I 1000% have to brush my teeth before I do absolutely anything in the morning. Then at night, I cannot go to bed without brushing my teeth and taking my makeup off. Doesn’t matter if I’m traveling, out for the night, or just absolutely exhausted - it’s happening!
They were talking about doing fun things with Flynn, and wouldn’t it be super cute if you guys had a family outing at like Build a Bear where Flynn could make gifts for the twins. Then he’d have a gift waiting for them when they get home.

Their story about " Gary" reminded me of when I was working at a small Prudential insurance building. I passed the security guard everyday and even though it was a small building and he see us every day he still need to see our ID to enter. One day I went in with my arms full of stuff to a party, I was showing him my ID as I entered, I went and drop some stuff off and came back to get the rest from my dad at the door/ front desk. The guard asked to see my ID which I left with the first load I dropped off. 😡😡😡😡😡This man who sees me every day made me walk all the way to my desk and back to him just to show him my ID again.
I work at a psychiatric hospital, and we have had several guys with that type of personality working as security guards 😂They act like that even with the floor staff! I'll go up to them at the desk when I need something and they act all busy on the computer like they're checking cameras or something, meanwhile I can see in the reflection of his glasses that he's on Facebook, hahaha
As an associate at TJ MAXX, I can agree with every scenario they have mentioned in this podcast lol the foods and expiration dates are checked and their foods have expiration dates on labels. Always always check wherever you check though
I tend to buy k cups in Marshall’s and TK Maxx but always check the expiration date. Some of the stuff is still good
Our family 100% does Christmas lists… I agree it takes away from the surprise and magic of the gift giving. But it always makes it easier for the gift giver and the receiver is always happy
I worked at TJMaxx for a bit (on the East Coast, if that matters) and when there was new merchandise to be put out onto the floor (multiples of the same stuff, like shirts and pants and stuff) we were told specifically to spread it out on the racks as much as possible, I think that might have something to do with the "they only have one of everything!" thing. Certain newer duplicates would get put on end-caps as a nice little "feature", too. Also we definitely had name brand and designer stuff, but I do think a lot of it was definitely old/out of season or "unsellable" at full price, hence it randomly being very cheap at our store.

Something you want
Something you need
Something to wear and
Something to read
This is a good rule of thumb to keep Christmas small have an element of surprise and also get something you want
My family also does Christmas lists! It's mainly with all of the grandkids. My entire family will pick off of our lists so they get us stuff that we actually want. They don't want to get us stuff that we don't want. Except for my one aunt who always buys us a "practical" gift that is really only useful to her and no one else 😂
About the lists: Everyone I know makes Christmas lists
Teeth Brushing: I have to brush my teeth the SECOND I wake up. My morning breath is more than I can handle, like it makes food taste bad if I don’t.
I’m so glad they share their date night with us! It just gives us a great view on how a beautiful relationship this like. I’ve never felt closer to someone who doesn’t even know who I am. Thank you guys!

Erik, don't worry! My husband loves his "Spa Day!" Stuff too. I got him into face masks, lotions, and toners. He used to have acne, until I introduced him to skin care. So, now, he genuinely enjoys those things and soaps that smell nice. Recently, I bought him a lush octopus soap for Halloween, which he loves! Lol I think it's great that hetero/cis men are starting to embrace these "feminine" things. They're to be enjoyed by all ❤️

i think they just meant that they barely go out or see anyone, while most people have gone completely back to normal. Yes they go to stores occasionally, but they’re not like going to Disney or taking planes if that makes sense

They don’t go out a lot in comparison to other people. I have been watching their vlogs and they don’t go out much and they literally didn’t leave the house for the first 8 months of covid. They have been very strict about covid and most other ppl have been out and about without masks for months depending on their country/state/province

I totally agree with Erik on the list part. The best part of gifts is the element of being surprised + the thoughtfulness of the gifter and when you're gifted something off of a list you make, that excitement isn't really there!

I’m with Colleen on the Christmas lists! My whole family has made Christmas lists and passed it around so that we all make sure we didn’t buy the same things lol!!
All of those "treasure hunting" model stores like TJMax and Marshall's buy extra inventory that companies want to get rid of. I don't work for any of them, but my company always reports on the competition, and the prediction is that their sales will skyrocket in the new year as they absorb all the holiday product that retailers are getting late due to all the supply chain problems.
We always have Cornbread dressing in the South, NOT stuffing. I lived in AZ for a few years and nobody who wasn’t southern didn’t know about this. The Gary story was hilarious especially the part about the tweezers. The thing is though that’s so petty of him. Yes, he’s doing his job, but it ultimately boils down to control, and him doing it bc he can. We’ve all dealt with that, and it’s annoying, but I’m sure a different lvl of annoying when he’s keeping you from your babies longer than need be

my family (of 5 adults) 1,000,000% have lists. usually short of very specific things they want, but then we also go off the list and get other thoughtful gifts. But the Christmas lists are so EXTREMELY helpful, that way you know they're going to like/use at least something you got them
I work for a company that has stuff at Marshalls/Homegoods/TJMaxx and we actually produce new products specifically for these discount stores! I was always under the impression that it was just old or overstocked merchandise (and in some cases it is), but we do actually also produce cheaper items with lower cost materials to be sold there, sometimes just using patterns or prints from previous years that we already have in our archives :) Same goes for Costco items!
