Thank you both of you for this interview! I am absolutely in love with how Northern Journey turned out, it was such a refreshing and authentic experience to have. It's been a long time since I've been left with such an impression from any form of media. I absolutely admire the creative flow and process of Slid Studio and I want to see where it goes. Will keep in touch.
Northern Journey is such a breath of fresh air. Love it so much. So much personality and soul. It is art in game form for me. Very folk-lorish as opposed to mythological. Sometimes creepy and scary but mostly mesmerizing and beautiful.
Extremely unique game. The world Reminds me of Skyrim and dark souls, even though it doesn't have a big RPG element to it. Great job! Listening to your thoughts about Unreal 5 and blender 3 was really helpful, I often find myself and others thinking too much about the next new thing, the latest versions, features, etc -- when you really don't need all that pain. Stick with something mature, and unless there's something important missing, don't waste time updating which could create new issues, deprecated features, new workflow, etc.
Indeed that was a really insightful observation from Øystein. I'm guilty of ALWAYS trying new versions of tools and dedicating a lot of time to being up to date with the newest versions. Although gamedev is a hobby, that still takes time that could be used... making the game. But what can I do? I love exploring documentations, courses and tutorials.
I am in love with this game and this dev is so inspiring. A lot of what he says makes me believe he likely is a neurodivergent individual. I have ADHD and I relate to much of what he says throughout this interview. Thanks for conducting this, excited to learn more about his next project!
I'm autistic and I can also see a lot of similarities in him, that's why I got so found of him and wanted to conduct and interview (of course that was not the only reason, I simply loved the game and his creative process)
I watched and listened till to the end. I lerned: to it like you can, not bringing things to an end is a waste of time, start with the feeling that fits most to its very centre, lerning by doing, time is the short good, shrink things that feel empty, ...

Great questions with great answers! A very worth interview for such a magnificent game.
Thanks! And Øystein focus and commitment is inspiring.
Awesome material. I love this guy made me switch to Unreal from Unity. Very big inspiration!
Anyone know the image size he used for his textures? Are they 512x512, 256x256?
Hey do you have any information about where and why Øystein disappeared. Is he okay?
