You're kind of starting at the top, but Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail (more Meg Ryan), Notting Hill, Pretty Woman, Kissing Jessica Stein, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Big Sick, Definitely Maybe, Annie Hall
@TheDemonicPenguin You mentioned two of the movies that she did with Tom Hanks. There was a third, much lesser known, one, called Joe Vs. The Volcano.
It was Meg's idea to "act out the O" in the restaurant, and Billy Crystal wrote the famous line "I'll have what she's having," spoken by director Rob Reiner's mother Estelle. You can go to Katz's Deli in New York City, and (at least the last time I was there,) there is a sign above the table "This is where Harry Met Sally. Hope you had what she had."
The on screen chemistry and back in forth banter between Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal is priceless, no other 2 actors could of played these parts like them
Has anyone mentioned that Billy was improvising the whole 'pecan pie' conversation. Meg genuinely started to laugh and turns to Rob Reiner expecting him to call a cut but he was loving it and gestured to Meg to keep it going. Genius directing, genius acting and a genius film. In my top 10 for Billy's final monologue to Meg about wanting to start your life with someone straight away. Love it.
Unlike so many romantic comedies, I love the fact that this movie doesn't rely on external circumstances, or misunderstandings. It's just two people, each trying to work through their issues, and stumbling along the way. This is also a great New Years Eve movie, which is far less common than Christmas movies.
I forgot that this scene wasn’t during their initial road trip, and I was so afraid that somehow it got cut! It makes sense, though, because they were nowhere near comfortable enough with each other at that point.
Another 'behind the scenes'' note is when writer Nora Ephron and director Rob Reiner went out to eat, Nora actually ordered her food the way Sally did. Rob said this is hilarious and must go in the movie.
This movie is based in part on Nora Ephram’s (writer/Sally) and Rob Reiner’s (director/Harry) relationship. The original ending had them meeting years later after going their separate ways. I feel they made the right choice by changing it.
Rom coms? Start with Roman Holiday, truly, an amazing film. Sleepless in Seattle-Tom Hanks is amazing in this. Westerns? True Grit (1969) John Wayne won an Oscar for this role. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance-three BIG stars led this cast and it's an amazing story.
Hard not to love this movie, even if you're not into romcoms. I think its because they focus on the characters and the little down to earth moments vs trying to prop up all the typical romantic cliches. Easy to rewatch this one throughout the years too.
Billy Crystal was huge in movies in the 80s and 90s. Of course you have the City Slickers movies lol.. and the absolute 80s classic Running Scared... Great actor. 😊
Points for “dignity.” Possibly my favorite deja vu film: An article in the October 1989 issue of Premier magazine documents 16 elements that had already been featured in Woody Allen’s ANNIE HALL and MANHATTAN.
It’s basically an “Annie Hall” remake, but with a plot overhaul (can’t say how without risking spoilers). I suggest you screen “Hall” and see where it all began. It has similar social awkwardness and a quirky sensibility. Ryan’s career trajectory was rather straightforward: a bunch of TV stuff in the early ‘80s----then a big break in “Top Gun” launched her film career in the late ‘80s. However, Crystal’s trajectory was more circuitous. He began in standup in the ‘70s and was supposed to do a set on the first “Saturday Night Live” in 1975, but he was cut for time and reportedly was devastated. However, he got his big break two years later, landing the role of Jody on the TV sitcom “Soap.” He has been in several big movies, but they are scattered, from the late ‘80s to the late ‘90s, including “Running Scared,” “Harry,” “City Slickers,” “Throw Momma From the Train,” and the “Analyze This/That” movies----but strangely enough, he’s probably most well-known for a cameo role in which many viewers may not have recognized him, as “Miracle Max” in “Princess Bride.” However, he’s been a very successful producer during this time, though, so he didn’t need steady film success.
You're not wrong about Billy Crystal being a performer. He started his career in showbiz doing stand-up comedy, gradually finding parts in TV shows and movies. So in a way, hosting the Oscars was going back to his roots.
I love the diverse genres that Rob Reiner manages to nail. This Is Spın̈al Tap - Rockumockumentary Stand by Me - Coming of age The Princess Bride - Fantasy comedy When Harry Met Sally... - Romantic comedy Misery - Horror A Few Good Men - Courtroom drama His production company Castle Rock (named after the town from Stand by Me), has been the de facto production company for Stephen King movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist (all directed by Frank Darabont), in addition to the Rob Reiner directed Stand by Me and Misery.
I would suggest watching The Wedding Singer before doing 50 First Dates, just because it came out chronologically. If you've seen it, that's great, I do look forward to see you react to 50 First Dates. :)
Billy Crystal acted in another movie that you would love and should react to if you have not seen it called Princess Bride which so happpens is a great rom com.
Consider watching Amelie, if you haven't seen it already. It's a total change of pace, and it's French, but this one glows with the same charm and sense of sheer delight. Amelie and WHMS are my 2 favorite romcoms of all time!
Both Billy and Meg have been in great films. If you want recs I highly recommend these: City Slickers, Princess Bride, and Father’s Day; When a Man Loves a Woman, French Kiss, Sleepless in Seattle.
For another top tier romantic comedy, check out Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994), starring Hugh Grant in the role that arguably gave him a movie career. :) Also stacked with a literal who's-who-list of British actors! And Andie MacDowell, from Groundhog Day, among other movies.
"When you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you want the rest of life to start as soon as possible" FACT ....❤ I'm not really into rom-coms but Billy Crystal gave this that guy humor that guys like. Great as always Vero
My favorite romcom is While You Were Sleeping. But I also have to throw in a recommendation for As Good As It Gets. Both are surprising, in completely different ways.
Sweet movie, huh! I like it every time I watch it. Just tuck this away...there's another really sweet movie that I haven't seen reacted to anywhere, called "Return to Me." I'm not going to tell you what it's about so I don't spoil it, but it mixes tragedy with comedy and has both young and veteran actors. It's a real gem.
I’m glad you liked it, this is one of my all-time favorite movies. So perfect. I think you need to go on a Billy Crystal binge cause that was sacrilegist when you said you didn’t even know he was an actor. He ruled the late 80 - early 90s and has done a lot of voice over work, so you have probably seen his work without knowing it.
Love this movie! And I really enjoyed your reaction. No one can really do 'the scene', it works for the movie though. Go back to 1960 for the romcom 'The Apartment' . Before you say 'that's so old', yes it is but, it still applies to today. In fact it was nominated for 10 Oscars and actually won 5. It takes a great movie to do that!
I really enjoyed your reaction. It felt genuine and heartfelt - especially your immersion in the viewing experience and emotional reaction during the climactic scene. As beautiful as the movie moment itself. This is one of those movies that's worth viewing every year or so. It's funny, emotionally fulfilling and uplifting, and never gets old. Also, unlike some older movies, it has aged well. As you loved this one, I highly recommend to you a movie called "What If", a 2013 romantic comedy starring Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan, Adam Driver, and an otherwise very talented supporting cast. Like "When Harry Met Sally", it involves a pair that are friends who have to navigate and come to terms with the deeper feelings that they have for each other. It's funny, witty, and emotionally rewarding, with a perfect cast (and a surprisingly effective modern-day-character performance from Daniel Radcliffe). Thanks again for this delightful reaction.
One of the options in the poll, About Time, is easily in my top 5 movies. Strongly recommended. I say this as a dude whose other top movies include Sicario, John Wick, and The Equalizer.

Probably this one and a couple more are the only romcoms I like and I think it's enough lol... But I love this one. Billly Crystal in his best times and Meg Ryan before everything... I've always liked Billy Crystal dialogues in movies
Good one, Verowak! This is a fun movie, very sweet. 😊 I love the music too. When it came out, it was my introduction to Harry Connick Jr.. You should add Roman Holiday to your romcom list. It's older with Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, but I think you might enjoy it. Thanks for sharing this one!

A very underrated rom-com is "A Life Less Ordinary", which is from the same director as Trainspotting.
Only You (1994) with Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei.
@TheDemonicPenguin You mentioned two of the movies that she did with Tom Hanks. There was a third, much lesser known, one, called Joe Vs. The Volcano.
Sleepless in Seattle, Dating the enemy, 50 first dates, Runaway bride, Blended
It was Meg's idea to "act out the O" in the restaurant, and Billy Crystal wrote the famous line "I'll have what she's having," spoken by director Rob Reiner's mother Estelle. You can go to Katz's Deli in New York City, and (at least the last time I was there,) there is a sign above the table "This is where Harry Met Sally. Hope you had what she had."
I’ve been to Katz’ and it’s so crowded that you can’t even picture that scene.
"Casablanca" is a must see. The best romance movie ever.
The on screen chemistry and back in forth banter between Meg Ryan & Billy Crystal is priceless, no other 2 actors could of played these parts like them
Her and Tom Hanks have great chemistry as well.
If you haven't watched it already, I can't recommend Moonstruck enough. I mean Cher and a very young Nicolas Cage, the whole cast is fire.
Moonstruck is one of the greats
Has anyone mentioned that Billy was improvising the whole 'pecan pie' conversation. Meg genuinely started to laugh and turns to Rob Reiner expecting him to call a cut but he was loving it and gestured to Meg to keep it going. Genius directing, genius acting and a genius film. It feels so real, which I love seeing. This is the only New Years Eve movie I've heard of lol
One of my favourite movies of all time. A classic.
A timeless movie, it will never grow old
"I'll have what she's having" is the director Rob Reiner Mother
It must be great to give family and friends a role in a movie you're making lol
Her only movie role ever, and she got famous for it.
I forgot that this scene wasn’t during their initial road trip, and I was so afraid that somehow it got cut! It makes sense, though, because they were nowhere near comfortable enough with each other at that point.
AND Carl Reiner's wife!
Haha! Your face when he threw the ice cream away. That was the peak of this movie's tragic moments.
Nice reaction!
So tragic... I'll never understand doing something so cruel
Another 'behind the scenes'' note is when writer Nora Ephron and director Rob Reiner went out to eat, Nora actually ordered her food the way Sally did. Rob said this is hilarious and must go in the movie.
The ending was great. Especially because as she’s telling him that she hates him he realizes that she’s actually saying that she loves him.
A very nice ending yes! It took her a bit to realize it
This movie is based in part on Nora Ephram’s (writer/Sally) and Rob Reiner’s (director/Harry) relationship. The original ending had them meeting years later after going their separate ways. I feel they made the right choice by changing it.
Next rom-com.. “ Sleepless in Seattle”. I really enjoyed the reaction.
Awesome reaction. When Harry Met Sally was the blueprint for romantic comedies for the next ten or twenty years.
It's a great movie to have as blueprint!
'50 first dates' and 'eternal sunshine' are a must
also
'blast from the past'
Absolutely such a well done and delivered movie. And you're right, focusing on the characters instead of romantic cliches made it so great
I see a comment for u to react to Moonstruck, defiantly . Cher won the Oscar for that movie
Billy Crystal was huge in movies in the 80s and 90s. Of course you have the City Slickers movies lol.. and the absolute 80s classic Running Scared... Great actor. 😊

Billy crystal is an absolute riot in this film. My fave rom com by far.
It’s basically an “Annie Hall” remake, but with a plot overhaul (can’t say how without risking spoilers). I suggest you screen “Hall” and see where it all began. Thanks, Verowak! 💎 This is a true gem... written by *Nora* *Ephron* and directed by *Rob* *Reiner* (who's an awesome human being, to boot).
I saw this movie in the theater and it’s still my favorite rom-com. Glad you enjoyed it so much. It’s a classic.
It's just fantastic!
My fav, and imo the best, rom-com "As Good As It Gets" with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt
Magical
Great react, first time i see you blush...You got mail, you will dig it, Sleepless in Seattle...both great Rom-Com, have a great week
You're not wrong about Billy Crystal being a performer. He started his career in showbiz doing stand-up comedy, gradually finding parts in TV shows and movies. So in a way, hosting the Oscars was going back to his roots.

Princess Bride is on my list for the near future. I didn't know he was in it
This is the high bar for rom coms. its so great and holds up extremely well.
This movie is the Cadillac of romcoms.
One of (if not) THE greatest romantic comedies ever. Simply a classic.
Absolutely, and I look forward to rewatching it many times!
The line "men and women can't be friends" has been following me around since this came out.
I'm not a rom-com guy, but this is a great film. 😃
For more Billy Crystal, City Slickers (1991).
Consider watching Amelie, if you haven't seen it already. It's a total change of pace, and it's French, but this one glows with the same charm and sense of sheer delight. Amelie and WHMS are my 2 favorite romcoms of all time!
One of the best love stories because it feels real which is very different from today because a lot of these aspects of relationships are not shown.
Thanks for leaving in my favorite line of the movie.
"I'll have what she's having."
Definitely have to leave that line in!!
You'll want to watch "An Affair To Remember" before you watch "Sleepless In Seattle".
"Ghost" is probably a mandatory watch as is "You've Got Mail".
And believe it or not, you will want to watch John Wayne (and his co-star Maureen O'Hara) in "The Quiet Man".
But if you are going to watch those, you need Shop Around the Corner first. 😊
Easily my favorite romantic comedy. Definitely shaped how I view relationships. I'm a sucker for witty banter...😅
It's such a great movie!! They really did witty banter so well
This is literally the only romcom that I like.
It's such a great one, hard not to like that's for sure
The Apartment, I'm told, was the first and only romantic comedy to win the best movie Oscar. Jack Lemon and Shirley MacLaine were/are awesome.
One of the best Rom-Coms of all time.. such a good description of realizing that everything you ever wanted was right in front of you the whole time
It absolutely is, I love their friendship development after they both divorced/broke up with their SO
Both Billy and Meg have been in great films. If you want recs I highly recommend these: City Slickers, Princess Bride, and Father’s Day; When a Man Loves a Woman, French Kiss, Sleepless in Seattle.
See Meg Ryan in the sweetly absurd "Joe Versus The Volcano", and the odd & quirky "Prelude To A Kiss".
The dialog is so much better than most Rom Coms.
you must have heard the 'Ill have what shes having' line before...it's actually been used in a couple of other things
May I suggest. Sleepless In Seattle, You’re Got Mail and
The Holiday.
I know Hugh Grant was in a lot of romantic movies (assuming comedies), will be neat to see some of them!
Great reaction to a classic! Rom coms I love: Moonstruck, While You Were Sleeping, Imagine Me and You
"When you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you want the rest of life to start as soon as possible" FACT ....❤ I'm not really into rom-coms but Billy Crystal gave this that guy humor that guys like. Great as always Vero
This is still my favorite Rom-Com. It's so well balanced between male and female points of view. And hilarious too.
My favorite romcom is While You Were Sleeping. But I also have to throw in a recommendation for As Good As It Gets. Both are surprising, in completely different ways.
❤❤ MEG RYAN, my all time favorite rom-com queen. Can't wait for You've Got Mail & Sleepless In Seattle 😊
Very appreciated that you didn't tell me what it's about, makes it that much more fun going into it!!
Another favorite rom-com with Meg Ryan is You've Got Mail :D also starring Tom Hanks
Yes, it's so good. Another classic Meg Ryan rom-com for me is French Kiss. Unfortunately, no one ever seems to react to that one.
I'd like to see her watch The Shop Around The Corner first 🙂
The woman who said: "I'll have what she's having" - Director Rob Reiner's mother. How about Sleepless in Seattle?
I’m glad you liked it, this is one of my all-time favorite movies. So perfect. I think you need to go on a Billy Crystal binge cause that was sacrilegist when you said you didn’t even know he was an actor. He ruled the late 80 - early 90s and has done a lot of voice over work, so you have probably seen his work without knowing it.
I looked up his filmography and aside from Friends (uncredited), I haven't seen anything else he's been in 😁
"Six months later, you find yourself singing, 'Surrey With the Fringe On Top', IN FRONT OF *IRA*!!!"
@0:15 Yep, that ranking checks out.
Terrific movie, one of my all time favs. I saw it in theatre when it came out.
A GREAT one that is on MY list is called Innerspace. It is HYSTERICal It was when Meg was really young
Great reaction. By the way, the "I'll have what she's having" lady in the diner is Rob Reiner's mother.
Thank you! Must be nice to have such an iconic line :D
A little late now for valentine's but two other films which always stay in my mind are 'Say Anything' and 'Before Sunrise'.😊
I do want to get around to Before Sunrise (and the other two afterwards) at some point!
I love this movie also Sleepless in Seattle and You've got mail!
Before 50 First Dates, you should watch The Wedding Singer..
You should check out City Slickers (1991), also with Billy Cristal and Bruno Kirby, such a great movie.
Your smile at the end of the movie. ❤️
I like Meg Ryan. I also love You've Got Mail with Meg and Tom Hanks
I have a bunch of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks rom coms to watch :D
Loved your reaction.
I'm glad to hear that! It's such a great movie
One of the greatest movies, right? A rewatchable, for sure. Your reaction is stellar! I enjoyed it very much, thanks.
100% rewatchable, I loved it!!!
You will love "Blast From The Past"
Fifty first dates, Definitely maybe, and The proposal.
One of the options in the poll, About Time, is easily in my top 5 movies. Strongly recommended. I say this as a dude whose other top movies include Sicario, John Wick, and The Equalizer.
You've Got Mail is great, too.
4 movies that I still need to watch!!
Meg Ryan was my first major crush.
I can see why! 🥰
I do the same thing (skipping to end) with books (and often movies) for the same reason 😂
Love your reaction and your hair extensions. Most of all I love your genuine and sweet comments during the movie. I find it very attractive. ❤
Sorry to disappoint, I don't have hair extensions lol
Sorry, and actually I believe you. ❤
now that you've watched that you must watch 'Sleepless in Seattle'. It will bring your Tom Hanks arc to meet the Meg Ryan arc and of course follow that with "You've got Mail" with the same pairing and if those two float your boat then you also have "Joe versus the volcano"
Next you should check out "Sleepless In Seattle."
It’s a classic!
You got mail is an all-time classic.
0:16 I highly recommend the two runners-up: _Ghost_ and _Eternal Sunshine…._ While not comedies, they’re both great.
Love this movie and it's endlessly rewatchable! My wife and I re-enacted the "pepper, pecan pie" scene when we visited the Met for the first time :)
Im so surprised Ghost lost the poll tbh. But glad this is getting a watch
Having never heard of Ghost before that poll, I thought Ghost was a horror movie. I'm sure I'll watch it at some point
Meghan Ryan is literally the Queen of Rom-Com. Ghost required ALL three actors to be at their best in order for it to be an iconic film.
This movie is an all time favorite. Another great movie in a similar vein is Before Sunrise.
I'm very curious to see the "Before" trilogy (not sure if this is how it's referred to lol)
@@VerowakReacts Yeah, it is a trilogy. It was made by director Richard Linklater along with the actors Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. Really wonderful and intimate performances.
25:34 Line of the film. 😭
Yes!!! 😭
One of my favorite movies. Could you react to FRENCH KISS (1995) and YOU'VE GOT MAIL (1998)? These three are Meg Ryan's best movies, if you ask me.
Billy Crystal is a great actor and sadly, a forgotten one.
One of the best RomComs ever.
Lovely reaction.
Thank you! 😊
Forget Paris is another great BC movie. Also City Slickers. You've got mail and Sleepless in Seattle are great MR movies.
If you like a good tragic romance, definitely watch Legends of the Fall. SOOOOOOO AMAZING!!!!
I learned that Brad Pitt is in that one lol
@@VerowakReacts Oh, yes he is. And in his PRIME, too. I feel faint! 😆❤️
Your expressions are wonderful to watch. So attempting to get a read on your personality I would suggest you watch the epic Oscar winner The English Patient. I think it may be up your alley
some other good nora ephron movies - you've got mail, sleepless in seattle, and julie and julia
