Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely check out The Greenlanders.
My opinion on underappreciated books would be the Gothic books of the late 18th Century. Most of my favourite books are of this literary Gothic genre which had its heyday in the 1790s. Ann Radcliffe, Eliza Parsons and many other writers wrote many gems during this period. Most of these books are almost entirely forgotten.

Infinite Jest is so good. I read it in 1997 or so and just started re-reading it. I think it's possibly the best novel since the 1920's. It is just amazing in so many ways.

So far, I'm 1/4 of the way through Infinite Jest, and I'm really getting into it. So worth the effort, because it's both brutal and funny in the sense that it is authentic. Life is the same way if you really think about it and try not to distract yourself from it.

I've studied a smidge of organizational behavior in my earlier grad studies, and FWIW there is really no overlap between anxiety and pretention. Narcissism is like oil to anxiety's water. Hope the metaphor comes through here.

Wow, what a waste of opportunity to showcase the work of some really underappreciated writers, especially to American readers. And then to include Infinite Jest in this category. Insane. The most overappreciated, overhyped book in my opinion. Big-budget fiction like Franzen's just doesn't appeal to me.
