      So I'm not the only one who sees her genius :-) I've been enfatuated with her lectures ever since I saw the first official one on the psychology of carnism. There's no doubt she is one of the leading personalities of veganism. I'm so grateful I stumbled over her lecture those ca. 2 years ago.

    "People have to be ready to change." So true. For myself, I had to be in a healthy enough mindspace to be willing and able to hear the truth. That is especially hard in the era of Trump when so many feel at their wits ends already daily. Luckily the message came to me at a time when I had banned myself from the news and was finally stating to feel mentally healthy again. If I had not been ready and able, I don't think I would have listened.

    I love everything about this, and I'm really happy that I instinctively do some of it. Still learning how best to talk to people, and when, but the attitude here of compassion for people as well as the animals, non-judgemental approach, is simply ... just really pleasant to behold :) I don't want to speak bad about more aggressive activism but I enjoy hearing an approach that fits more with my character like this. Thank you, Dr Joy.

    as "morally superior" like Gary Yourofsky makes a point of, saying that vegans Are more ethical, and people can feel that from him, thats why they hate him. and hes right though. "they couldn't sleep at night if they called me a compassionate human being. cause im calling them out." and he said "theres people who judge and theres ppl who lie about judging. we judge ppl all the time". he is so right, and i think that sort of dialogue works with some people, some people respond to his messages and they get it, he's helped so many ppl. but Melanie is also correct in so many ways. but i dont like that i have to nOt claim that im more ethical, when this is actual a fact, vegans are more ethical - but yet we're not allowed to think or feel that? i mean i get what she means i know its a special situation because we are dealing with other emotional beings and trying to get them to understand something, but it leaves such a fine line for choice between an ethical decision or an unethical one and i dont want to leave them with a vague idea that "nobody is more ethical" or leave them with their mind potentially telling themself that "oh see, morality is sort of subjective" when its nOt. and ppl need to clearly see that.

    I'm trying to upload more vegan content but the pushback from carnists is insane. People really believe it's ethical and healthy to eat animals. I remember when I ate meat it was because I never thought about what I was eating. But people actually dare to think eating meat is okay.

    • @lioseianishina4889
      @lioseianishina4889 7 років тому +1

      its because almost everywhere eats meat and its 'normal' and people tend not to want to become the outsider . so they refuse to acknowledge that animals have rights or should be valued.

    Most people are not able to pass from omnivorism to veganism. They need a vegetarian interlude of at lest few year. That will prepare their body and mind for becoming vegan, as vegan metabolism is so much different than omnivore metabolism

    • @smudge8882
      @smudge8882 3 роки тому

      Not always. It's not metabolism that tends to be an issue, more digestion and difference in calorie intake. Like new vegans are likely eating way more fiber than their body is used to, so they need to go slow with the beans. I can see why you'd think metabolism would be an issue, but it's more that vegan food in general is less calorically dense. Vegans often have to double their portion sizes in order to get the same amount of calories they did on an omnivorous diet. It's not that they burn more calories; it's that the food they eat has less.

    What about Narcissists they are self-centered and lack empathy too. Dr Melanie is there anyway to convince them to believe or to consider veganism?
    As validation is their top priority and veganism is been validated atleast by a certain amount of people who are financially and socially successful, Will they turn vegan for validation from such people?

  • @NoExitLoveNow
    @NoExitLoveNow 7 років тому +1

    I think one issue that people who eat meat have a problem with we who do not is that they see it as wasting food. They take the food available as a given and see vegans as refusing to eat it. They also think we are asking them to waste it. They might even think of vegans as not taking the sacrifice of the animals seriously if we are going to waste the resultant food. I don't expect these thoughts are entirely conscious, but I think this is part of it.

    We must go to the core of the problem in order to solve it. We have to change some words in English ,for example it should be she or he, if something alive should be someone not something.
    In Russian for example, all alive creatures have gender therefore they are called she or he or gender suffix is used

    i would love to know how to actually get people to WATCH the videos ... especially close family and friends. they are aware that the videos are graphic and seem to acknowledge the cruelty and inhumanity of it all ... but then they never actually watch them. it's like telling someone you'll read the book he lent you, never reading it, and stuffing it on your bookshelf in plain sight. it seems very much like it's a matter of "i don't want to see because that would be too inconvenient" and i'm honestly not really okay with that. you cannot make an informed decision one way or another without understanding both sides of the debate, as it were. i don't push the issue because not only can you not change people but people push back HARD when pushed, but it would be nice to at least feel acknowledged in my efforts - again, ESPECIALLY from people like my parents who know how very important this issue is to me and still don't seem to care at all (perhaps ts just me qualifying the issue but it really does feel like they don't care about how i feel - in fact, i can stand around talking about the facts just about how there are new health studies that show the association between eating this kind of meat and getting this disease, etc., and in the same discussion my parents will say they can't wait to make pork chops ... it is just very disrespectful in my opinion and i don't know how to handle it tactfully, i suppose). i know that if at least my mother were to watch even a few minutes of the videos she would be singing a different tune, but she just refuses to do so. sorry for the long comment. just wondering if others have experienced this kind of situation with people who are supposed to care for you the most. thanks.

    • @smudge8882
      @smudge8882 3 роки тому

      Honestly in that situation, I don't think they'll respond to the ethics argument. Maybe show them What the Health or Game Changers? It seems they don't want to watch anything graphic, and this could be a solution. Ideally, they would go vegan, but even if you're only able to get them to go plant based, that'll still help save a lot of animals

    In order to want to be veganisme as a succes they should cheaper the products on a scale based on meat products and keep the menu choise getting bigger and bigger aswell as the marketing.

    • @smudge8882
      @smudge8882 3 роки тому +1

      The thing is that in order for products to be cheap, that means they need to be widely purchased. The more people buy something, the cheaper it becomes to produce.

    But isn't suppressing your frustration in itself a cause of frustration? I just hate the idea of being the "good vegan" who stays quiet and tiptoes around carnists.

    • @smudge8882
      @smudge8882 3 роки тому

      There are healthy outlets for frustration. Journaling, exercise, screaming into a pillow. Taking it out on others only traumatizes them and pushes them away from veganism
