As the great Roland Dyens said about Tchaickovsky and Chopin: "I both love them and hate them. I hate them because they didn't write a single note for the Guitar... and I love them for the same reason, because it gave me an opportunity to do some work as an arranger... I love arranging, its the job of a designer, the house has already been built by the architect (composer)... the test of a good guitar arranger is to make the listener believe that the piece was originally written for the guitar."
I love dyens❤️
Dyens arranged amazing things sorely missed first time I heard tango en skaii I just had too learn it, same with his nuages
Even the classical guitar and accordion is invented in the 19th century but the guitar isn't popular in that time. The busker on that time mostly prefer the accordion over the guitar. Since the guitar and accordion both are the mobile accompaniment instrument can be bring to travel and mostly will be played by homeless guy in the 19th century. And the accordion and guitar is became best friend. The accordion is just the wind version of guitar and the guitar is the string version of accordion.
Example:
Piano vs Pipe Organ
Guitar vs Accordion
Violin vs Tenor Saxophone
Double Bass vs Tuba
The maestro 😍
Dyens’ arrangement of the Chopin mazurka at the beginning of this vid is awesome.
Amazing how there’s a quiet intensity to the piano originals, but arranging them for guitar makes the pieces sound more vulnerable and sincere.
I agree!
I had the very same feeling but didn't know how to describe it, thanks a lot!
How does "vulnerable" make no sense when talking about music and yet also describe this perfectly?
@@Talven_Daluka Imho vulnerable does make sense when talking about music but maybe that's just my imagination.
The first Chopin transcription was just amazing.
Asturias by albeniz is also a piece that was original composed for the piano, i like the guitar version much more thow.
Rumores de la Caleta, also by Albeniz, sounds awesome on guitar as well. Very spanish.
I think the guitar version is much more popular than the piano version. I think it is also by Tarrega.
Exactly, I was going to write the same thing, because I was surprised it wasn't among the five compositions
Everyone does… ha

6:36 Gymnopédie No.1- Erik Satie
8:28 Nocturne Op.9 No.2- Chopin
thank youuu
Thank you
Thank you
Thanks
I do love the sound of the piano but there is something magical about hearing these transcriptions for guitar!
How many strings does a piano have!? Sources say that on average it's around 230...and you can accomplish such a full sound with 6!
Hats off!
To play a note on a piano, you press a key, that lifts a rod through a lever, that then pushed a hammer up to hit the string which is then damped by a pad depending on a pedal position.
To play a note on a guitar, you put your finger on the string.
A guitar is an extension of the musician.
The guitar definitely offers much more control over tone and articulation than the piano does, although the piano is quite unmatched in the potential of differentiating single notes in a chord (a pianist can make a single chord sound in many different ways).
But these 230ish strings are there to create volume. This is something not apparent here, has the guitar is recorded from close, but in a bigger hall you would hear much less from the guitar than from a piano, even if that guitar projects exceptionally well.
Some UA-camrs you can just like before the video, you already know what quality awaits you. 👍👍
Tack Mattias:)
@@LucasBrar No, except for your horrible accent when naming Spanish songs your channel is one of the very best. So THANK YOU!!
When you said about Chopin making music for the guitar i felt that on another level
Chopin - "Nothing is more beautiful than a guitar, except possibly two"
Lucas: * casually has three guitars in the background *
Could you make a video on 5 levels of Villa-Lobos?
I might yes, eventually. I have that on my list actually:) Thanks for the tip!
@@LucasBrar Yes, please!
@@LucasBrar PLEASE that would be awesome
That would be awesome!!!

Gymnopedie works very well on guitar :) Where can I find the tab that you used/arranged for Nocturne?
The big problem on guitar is sustain. But you are so good that I can’t say if I prefer piano or guitar versions. I like both!
@@lucapowell5502 it’s an arrangement by Francisco tarrega, you can find on the internet
Hey Lucas, I need to thank you a lot for everything you did. You might not know, but you're really helping many people(me in primis) to get inspired, to practice and to overall continue with the guitar. I love everything you do, and you might seriously be one of the most amazing guitarists. I would love a full version of Gymnopedie n. 1 on guitar by you. Know that someone will always watch a video of yours, and that you inspire many people to keep on going. Thank you❤️
That makes me incredibly happy to hear!! Thank you for listening🙏🙏🙏
OMG my two favorite instruments: piano and guitar!
Edit: Gymnopedie is just wonderful 😍
When you edit your comment, should you mention that what do you edit !?
@@saeidqanei4935 Yes
Edit: No
It is nearly impossible to write intricate pieces for the guitar unless you yourself are really good at the instrument. Knowledge from other instruments doesn't carry over too well, so it's no surprise many of the old masters did not compose for it.
Well, Rodrigo was surely a master at it, but wait, it was really Segovia who did the guitar part... I agree, the early composers did not get the help they needed. God bless Segovia.
Takemisu, elliot carter … are some amazing examples
Bach?
@@armfe3307 Rodrigo is so based
well, it certainly does but maybe guitar wasn't that popular at that time.
Big fan Lucas thanks for everything❤️❤️
As a pianist I must say - amazing job! They all sound wonderful.
That artificial harmonic while plucking with the thumb is insane. I thought about it but gave up not thinking that's possible, crazy impressive
it's not to difficult with practice
@@supremetaco5349
Pianists have it so easy though. Just press a button with one finger.

Very Beautiful pieces of Classical guitar music Lucas!👏 😊, this video is actually a realization for electric guitarists like me who are always amazed at speed and how to always improve using a metronome.
Actually, I just realized that this classical "piano pieces" played on the guitar is waaay harder and technical than most electric guitar speedy riffs and solos. Not to mention more melodic. It only proves even "slow" music is actually really wonderful to listen. Cheers!
Isaac Albeniz is someone who to me must of loved the guitar because all of his music just flows on the guitar just as well as a piano does.
All these transcriptions were excellent, the final Chopin one really moved me, incredible job!
The Satie piece is the whole reason I started classical guitar. So good.
Beautiful arrangements and playing. I am a professional classical pianist and I must say these piano pieces sound really amazing on the guitar. I am now in the midst of learning the classical guitar and I love it!! I hope I can be good enough in future to make such videos of myself playing on both instruments. Thanks Lucas for the inspiration! 😊👍👏
Beethoven was really beautiful, Satie blew my mind and Chopin braught my Home. You‘re an excellent guitarrist, very inspiring ❤️
The amount of effort that was put into this video is astonishing! Would love to see a part 2!!
As good as all of those were I would have liked to have heard you do Clair de Lune by Debussy, but that's just me. Thank you for all you do, your videos are a bright spot in my pensioner days.
There's a great version by jazz guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg, he did a great job with that one!
@@danielcasasorozco2978
Thank you.
I'm obsessed with your arrangement of Chopin waltz op 69 no 2. Is there anyway I could have the tab?
Thank you
Ye it was the best from all of these
Guitar is a GOD OF ALL INSTRUMENT
Sorry i disagree😂
@@Max-to6jm don't be sorry cuz your next step is going to be into Hell ☠️☠️😂

@@Max-to6jm dude i was joking
Never thought I'd hear Gymnopedie number 1 on guitar. Those harmonics are the key. Well done.
the quality of your guitar playing is jaw dropping
Alles was Du spielst hört sich einfach großartig an. Danke dass es Dich gibt und wir daran teilhaben dürfen!
Ok just found out Chopin invented that famous Latin jazz lick! It’s in there bro!! Amazing vid!
I used to listen to Gymnopédie No. 1 on Lofi hip hop before even knowing it was a classic. You can even look for it by searching Raining in Osaka, it's the third one in the playlist. It's so calming and refreshing
Go check out gnossienne no. 1 too.
Thank you for simply spreading the notion of beautiful music and sharing your thoughts with others. I love how these piano favorites translate to guitar.
As far as I can tell, Edson Lopes was the first classical guitsrist to transcribe Bach's Toccata and Fugue in Dm, and it is magisterial.
Somehow your arrangement of Sonata Pathetique evoked my childhood experience of Lon Lon Ranch in the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Time to cry tears of nostalgia...
Thank you Lucas, for your refreshing video's on the classical guitar and many things guitar! I thoroughly enjoy your videos and look forward to the notifications of a new Lucas Brar video in my email!
Beautiful usage of harmonics in these arrangements, and really well done executing them.
If the Piano is king, the guitar is the people of musical instrument.
I've learned Gymnopédie recently and I love it, so relaxing
7:56 Captions say "Laughter"
The change of tone there really is laughter. It's sighs of contemplation, and then laughs that you were contemplating.
Damned… you display so much quality, passion, musicality,… Big bravo, Lucas. I enjoy every minute of your videos. This one even brought me to tears (with that last Chopin translation)
Thanks so much for listening and appreciating, makes me very happy!
As a great philosopher who's name I forget put it, he's a fingerpicking pimp.
I love the way you bring out the melody. That guitar sounds wonderful. I doubt my playing will ever approach the beauty I hear in yours but I feel inspired every time I hear you play.
Gosh, this is beautiful at another level ♥️ you nailed it bro!!!!! Those are my favourite classical pieces I used to listen since I was kid and now you just played it on strings. Thank you
Hello Lucas, another wonderful video! I'm mostly commenting to say thank you for all the inspiration you've given me since I first saw your Autumn Leaves in 10 levels of difficulty in late 2019. I was just starting to learn jazz guitar and Autumn Leaves was my first song to learn and I was floored by your skill. You played a tremolo part in there, a technique which I had never seen before, never having consumed any classical guitar music. By the following April I was attempting to learn Recuerdos, which after three weeks gave me tendonitis and that was pretty much it for me and attempting tremolo :). Still, your videos inspire me to keep learning jazz and classical pieces, and I wanted to thank you for that. You are an amazing guitarist!
Thank you very much Greg, so happy to hear that. I hope the tendonitis is Getting better, be sure to be relaxed and tension-free when practicing. I’ve had issues as well. Best of luck!
Thank you Lucas! So beautiful. So tranquil and relaxing. You have a rare and beautiful gift. Thanks for uncounted hours of practice and honing your craft. You allow the instrument to speak to your audience. Brilliant and enchanting!
As always, one of the best channels for guitar...Keep on Lucas, you're so inspiring...Ciao
Usually when I’m warming up to play the guitar I play a piece of “jesu joy of man’s desiring” or Bach’s “minuet”, they sound beautiful in the guitar, and are easy to play.
How nice is it to watch and listen to someone playing the guitar with such passion.
Im amazed by how beautiful this arrangements are, specially those that you wrote! Youre such and inspiration lucas, hugs from Argentina!!
as always, showing who is the best guitarist on youtube, I'm your biggest fan man!
These are some beautiful arrangement you played here, love it. Keep it up man!
The arrangements are truly unbelievably beautiful
Lucas, you playing is astonishing and the sound of your guitar is mesmerizing, it has a very beautiful "broken" tone. Thanks for these beautiful videos.
I m a novice learning guitar from UA-cam videos and writing my tabs with pauses and slow mo options from the video. I try to learn the guitar notes from piano notes and thanks for this video . It's beautiful. I just love you content, sir.
That was unbelievable. You are a fantastic musician. I really enjoy your videos. Bravo!
This is easily one of your best videos and i really enjoy all of them. Thank you for your hard work and particularly for sharing.
It's so beautiful!!! Guitar version made happy and sad at the same time.
Thank you - always such a joy to see and hear you playing so beautifully.
That chopin piece is one of my favourite. Best guitar-arrangement I've heard so far
The comments are full of people making requests.
What this means is that we love hearing guitar music played in your style. Thanks!
Simply magisterial! Beautiful playing man! Thank you for this most beautiful musical post.
Man, almost every transcription you play is my favourite I found for the piece. I have no idea how copyrights work for things like transcriptions by Tarrega but I'd buy a lot of what you play.
It would be awesome to have links to free and paid transcriptions in video's description. I have no idea how much tha would increase your workload though.
Thanks for all the videos, you are a major reason why I got back to classical guitar!
Thank you for making this video! One of my favorite YT channels. Keep posting!
That was impressive. And now I want to hear the 3rd Movement from the Moonlight Sonata. *throwing coin into jukebox*
I played that movement Sonata Pathetique in high school, the guitar version was otherworldly 😭😭
Fine sir I adore your music. You're such a peaceful committed personality and I both appreciate and respect your discipline.
You sir are a wizard - truly amazing! I was very nervous to hear the Adagio Cantabile as it is a favourite of mine, but you did it splendidly.
this is true talent
Wow Lucas! Way to continue to step up your game! You are an amazingly talented musician who has clearly practiced for thousands and thousands of hours! #motivated!
Beautiful, Lucas! The first Chopin waltz was my favorite. It was very Spanish sounding on the guitar.
very beautiful playing, your videos are always a joy to watch.
love it!! great playing
Beautiful!! Thanks for this great musical moment.
Love the tone of your guitterre ...... love your vid's keep up the great work!
I could listen to Sonata Pathétique on guitar all day, it's so soothing
As usual a bloody fantastic video. Thank you so much.
You are best music channel in UA-cam
Gymnopedie arrangement was beautiful! I love your channel, not my usual sort of music or style of playing ( my style is best described as 'ham-fisted') but man I really love your soul and technique! (And Metallica but it's jazz)
A very well thought out video lesson. Thank you Lucas Brar.
A pleasure to listen to and watch. Smooth, dextrous chord changes.👍
Thank you Lucas for the beautiful peaces of music
Incredible Lucas. Plain and simply put... Incredible ❤️
Thank you Srinjan!
IDK if at this point we can still consider Albeniz's music piano music, you hardly ever still hear it played on the piano
Thank you for surpassing yourself Lucas 😊😊 I LOVE this channel. It always keeps me excited to go practice
So glad to hear it Theresia!
Spectacular playing, Lucas. Wonderful music. Thanks so much! :)
Danza Espanola No 5 is my personal favourite. Wonderful video thank you so much.
All pieces played really well but that Beethoven really spoke to my heart, especially the harmonics section.

English: Many guitarists have transcribed works for Piano, One on all Tarrega. But you know it perfectly, master. I just studied Chopin's prelude op.28 n.15 Tarrega transcription. Goodbye from italy
your work is very beautiful. Thank you for your inspiring playing.
You're the besssttt LUCAS!!
Great job on Satie, perhaps the most difficult thing is to not “swing” this piece
I played it on piano, I can still hear my teacher screaming at me “THIS IS NOT JAZZ MUSIC!!!” 😅
You are too good! I’m crying, thanks a lot 🙏
