Mary Janes Last Dance is a lot of fun to play. Just the way it’s strummed and the chord walking

I know, right! Notice how it's twice as long as all the rest and then I even went into a solo. I didn't want to stop. LOL. Thanks for your amazing support of the channel. I appreciate it soo much!! I think I'm going to do a live cover of American Girl and post on Saturday. Thoughts? Thanks again. -Mark

Hey Leroy. I do a lot of classic rock covers on the 12 including a ton of Beatles, Zep, Stones, Boston, etc. Here's one of my latest, a cover of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (I also try to get as creative as I can with the videos too). If you have some time, let me know what you think. LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMOND COVER AND LESSON ua-cam.com/video/vZdVOj1wSr8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=8MinuteAxe. I also give a brand new 12 string guitar away each month (I'm giving away another on Friday, my latest video has details on how to win). Either way, thanks for watching this one. Have a great evening and take care. -Mark

Geez, and here I am thinking that Free Fallin’ is one of the simplest songs ever and it turns out that the sound is the result of like 5 guitars. Love tidbits like that. Great video Mark, keep ‘em coming.

Congratulations, Mark, on your new guitar; you deserve it! And thank you for putting it to great use. I've been a fan of Tom (with and without The Heartbreaker) since 1979 and 'Full Moon Fever' remains one of my favorite albums.

Hey Rob. How goes it. Yeah, this video was actually fun to make. I really enjoyed going through the TP catalog. Damn the Torpedoes and Hard Promises are two of my all time favorite albums. I didn't like the departure in sound when Full Moon came out but it's obviously a brilliant album and put him into the stratosphere. Thanks again for all of your support. I think I'm going to do a live cover of American Girl tomorrow and upload this weekend. Take care! -Mark

As much as I'd like to talk guitar, I can't let it go unnoticed that you made a RI reference and your name is Nathanael Green, or is that just a screen name. It has to be with that spelling of your first name. I bet you didn't know that you're dealing with a guitar player/Early American history buff. LMAO. Thanks so much for watching. I appreciate your time. If that's really your name, let me know!! -Mark

Hey Man! How's it going. Yeah, the Takamine didn't require any unique mic placement. What you hear are stereo sony mics, and a little added reverb from the direct channel on the last two. Awesome guitar and really run to play. Thanks again for all of your support. Very much appreciated. I think I'm going to do a live cover of American Girl tomorrow and upload on Sat. I need to work on those tabs. A lot of requests and I'm still way too slow with Guitar Pro. Take care! -Mark

Hey Juergen. I absolutely love the Tak but I was close to getting the Washburn and I mistakenly told about 5 people that's what I got. I even had to reshoot the opening of the video. I called it a Washburn. The Tak is awesome. It's so well made. The workmanship reminds me of a $2k Gibson. Really nice and great bang for the buck. Now I have to get to work on those tabs! I'm gonna watch a video tonight on how to use GP7 more efficiently. There has to be an easier way to tab chords. LOL. Thanks again for the comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. It was fun to make. Take care. Talk soon. -Mark

Hey Kent. I really appreciate it. I need to get the action lowered. I usually do basic set ups myself but I need the action a little lower. There's a guy named Dave Onorato here it ATL that is the best in the business. If he can't get it playing perfectly, no one can. I don't know how long you've followed the channel for, but finding the right guitar was a saga. I wanted something under $1k with a big full sound. I own three other Taylors and I love them but the 150e was not for me. Not full sounding enough. What others have you owned? -Mark

Hey David. You know, I have to admit, the only song that took more than one take was that one. I never played it before and the way he keeps hitting that G chord is a little unusual. I kept wanting to play it straight. You're hearing take three I believe. LOL. Thanks again for all of your support. I really love playing Tom Petty stuff. Some of the earliest songs I learned on guitar and still fun to play decades later. Teaching my daughter Free Fallin as one of her first 2 songs. Pretty easy, but fun to play and sounds great. She's playing with Capo on 3 and I've got mine of 1. Really fun to do together.

Greg. I owe so much of my education to you and other viewers. When my first 12 string video started doing well I really dug in and educated myself. Another viewer just pointed out how essential the 12 string is on Walk Right In by the Rooftop Singers. I need to pay homage to the early use of it (pre Beatles and Byrds) as well as do one on the original blues players like Blind Willie McTell. I need to start working up those chops. Thanks again for your time. Have a great day. Be well. -Mark

Hey about Free Fallin'', I think it's not a 12 strings but a combination of 2 guitars and 2 acoustic guitar in overdub. In the right channel we have a guitar and acoustic guitar playing the chords with capo at 3rd fret in D form and at left we have another 2 (acoustic and electric) playing the chords with capo at 1st fret playing in E form

Randy, my friend! How are you? I really appreciate it. I'm not a big guy and it's a big guitar but it's so much fun to play. Action is great and this thing stays in tune even when I clamp down the capo. I only had to make one string adjustment when I clamped down for Free Fallin and NONE when I went from fret 3 to 1. I figured $700 would go a long way for a Takamine. The craftsmanship reminds me of a $2500 Gibson. Thanks so much for your continued support of the channel. I really do appreciate it. Have an awesome day and take care! -Mark

"Free Falling" gets an awful lot out of those simple chords, although I suppose the layering helps. The rhythm and the up and downmusical motion really fit the video with the skateboarding girl( who is probably about fifty now).
Got to see Petty in concert many years ago. His death was another great loos to music!

      @8MinuteAxe  4 роки тому +1

Hey Hugh. It's funny you mention Yer So Bad. I just watched a video of Tom doing that one and it's fantastic. Because I grew up with Tom Petty (I was 10 back in 81 and Refugee became my first 'favorite' song) it's been hard to put in perspective at just how amazing his career was. I didn't really like Full Moon Fever when it first came out. Now I realize what a genius move it was on his part to recreate himself and play to his strengths as he got older. Did you see my American Girl cover ua-cam.com/video/CQN_iTx_3rk/v-deo.html. Check it out and let me know what you think if you have time. Either way, I appreciate you watching this one. Hey Robert! Yeah, Learning to Fly, End of the Line, and American Girl ended up on the cutting room floor. I get a lot more positive reviews with shorter videos. I've also noticed that more playing and less talking has been a hit (not sure what that says about me, I guess since they are guitar based videos that's a good thing...I think....LOL). Sooo, I originally had a list of 15. Listen to Her Heart was on it. Listen, Woman In Love, and Even the Losers, are my three favorite Tom Petty songs although Wildflowers is really growing on me. I think I'm going to do a video of strictly early TP. First album through Hard Promises maybe. And then another with the newer stuff. I remember how disappointed I was when Full Moon first came out. Such a departure. Looking back, it was a brilliant album and showed that he could rock and do the acoustic thing. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment. I really appreciate your time. Great video! Sweet sounding guitar also. Are you playing it through an amp with onboard electronics or just have it mic'd? I don't think I'm going to get an endorsement with Takamine anytime soon if I keep that up. Maybe with Washburn though! LOL. I was able to send the Ibanez back in time. Hey Jamie. Did it mess up on your cell when you played it. It looks like YT corrected the problem. I really appreciate the heads up. Thank you!! -Mark

I've been on the run since things opened up here in Ohio. First chance to see your videos. I'm sure you know you made a wise decision on the Takamine. Doesn't the neck feel like the closest thing to an electric for any acoustic guitar? I enjoyed the video as usual and being a true Takamine man, I'm glad to see you with one. 👍🎸🎶

Hey Frank. I absolutely love the Takamine. The workmanship reminds me of a $2k Gibson. It plays well sounds great, stays in tune remarkably well. The neck is really thick which sucks but the more I've been playing 12 string the more my dexterity improves. I spent the day recording live acoustic covers and originals. I was inspired today although nothing sounded too amazing on playback. I got a pretty upbeat and energetic version of American Girl. I'll probably go with that. I'll catch up more with you soon. I need to hit the bed. -Mark

@@8MinuteAxe It surprises me about the neck being thick. The EF381 has a narrow neck for a 12string. My 1987 F400 is slightly wider at the nut but it's still comfortable. My PSF48 Santa Fe is a 6string of course but it's neck is close to our 2015 Deluxe Strat at the nut. It's one of the reasons I'm a Takamine guy. I picked up a 1997 Gibson CL20 around 2000. It was the deal of a lifetime, $850. It's a great sounding and beautiful guitar but the neck feels like a billboard compared to my Taks. Lol
P.S. Taks are built for the road. It's kinda funny that in the 90s and early 2000s, so many artists swore by them. There are still a few. I recall Days of the New using Takamine acoustics in creating a "hard grunge" sound. They are versatile instruments. They need to hire me as a salesman. 🤔🤣

Great, now I feel obligated to get a twelve string

Hey Carter. LOL. Tell me about it. So, I did the first 12 string riffs video, it went nowhere, and I tucked the 12 string away. Then all of a sudden it popped. At 10k views I did my due diligence and started throwing myself into all things 12 string. At 100k views I invested in a $300 Ibanez 12 and realized that I love playing it. I was missing out on such a great instrument for years. And viewers have sent me in 1000 different directions. Right now I'm trying to get down Leo Kottke's Vaseline Machine Gun. The slide part is the toughest thing for me. The picking isn't that difficult once you get the pattern down. Anyway, good luck in your hunt. Thanks so much for watching the video and for your comment. I appreciate your time. I have about 10 other 12 string videos including a good one on some of the ways to get the most out of it 12 STRING GUITAR TIPS, TRICKS, AND TUNING ua-cam.com/video/bVR2MR-reIc/v-deo.html. Either way, have a great evening and take care! -Mark

Hey Vasanth. Thanks so much for checking this one out. This was the most successful video I ever had out of the gate and then it kind of died. I'm not sure what was so different about this one but it got triple what most of my videos get in the first 24 and 48 hours. Take care and be well. -Mark

Hey Jack. I definitely will. I cut American Girl, Learning to Fly, and End of the Line out because of running time. I actually had them in the video. Learning to Fly is just those same chords over and over, but pretty ones they are. And the strumming makes the song. Thanks so much for watching and for your comment. I really appreciate your time. Have a great evening and take care! -Mark

Thanks for posting! If you have a second, I recorded a cover of Little Big Town. As a fellow music lover, I'd love if you'd check it out. It's on my page. Hope you like it!

Dude, why didnt you tell me earlier that you have a channel! Anyway, I know now. I listened to two originals and your cover of the Waiting. All of them first rate! I'll check out more later (I try to spend at least 4 hours a week supporting other smaller but great channels like yours). We should collab on something! Check out my original Space Hippie when you have some time. It's a broken down acoustic version. I uploaded it on my birthday last year but I wrote it several years ago. It's the only song I ever had that ever had success. I'd like to know your thoughts. Have a great day. -Mark
