It's not the math that is difficult, it is the way they ask the questions. Just like SAT math. It isn't the math that's hard, it's the confusing nature of the question...just like AP calc.
some of these explanations are unnecessarily complicated.. #3, you can just use the complete the square method which makes it sooo much simpler and easier..
I wish you'd given the names to a of of the rules and methods you used. These equations are probably very easy for you and you can just do them off the top of your head, but for us folks out here... Lol. I died attempting to do the first one. Idk what im gonna do about the rest.
I thought I was stupid until I read the comments and knew I wasn't by myself. Lol but I ain't giving up but the first problem just made my thoughts drift away #itainteasy . 😣
Arxaion Yeah the test is dumb, I took one in my junior year, but I passed, but it was really hard for me, I couldn't think straight, and I had used like 3 pages front and back worth of math work, not including mental math, and calculations done with the calculator.. I got a 3 on my math which means I'm "conditionally" ready for college level math, aka I need to take a math course for my final year and pass with a C, which will be AP Stats.. And for English I got a 4, so that means I'm ready for College level English. But goodluck don't sweat the test if you haven't taken it, I didn't study at all for it..
This is a very well explained and thought out video. You are an excellent teacher, I was able to understand all the questions. Please make more, you are well appreciated!
Here's my input on this accuplacer study guide: Some of these questions were very similar to the actual test. Not everyone will advance to this part of the math accuplacer! If you score to low on the first part, which is elementary algebra, you won't advance to the college level math. I took this yesterday and I advanced. The college level test wasn't as hard as I imagined it would be! I studied and prepared for two weeks. As stated before, some of these questions were on there were similar to this. Majority of them are not on the test.
*takes one look at the first problem and how to solve it* This is one of the reasons people don’t finish college. This is the reason I know I’m gonna have a mental breakdown in college.
Thank you so much for these videos. I am taking my test tomorrow and I feel more confident after watching them. Even though English is not my native language, your explanations are so good that I did not have difficulties to remember what I learned many years ago in Brazil. 👍🏼
I was worried I was going to fail the test, but fortunately, I stumbled upon this video and channel. After binge watching your videos the night before my test I was able to pass and place into Math 101 with just a few points away from placing above it. These videos are really helpful and I would recommend them to anyone who is worried about the test. Good luck!
This is extremely helpful. You can explain everything so clearly. Thanks for the help! I need to practice, practice, and practice! I'm taking my test in a week. I hope i do great!
i have 1 question. how does 2 to the power of one half 1/2...equal to square root of 2? is anything to the power of 1/2 equal to that number rooted? like 4 to the power of 1/2 equals radical 4?? and 6 to the power of 1/2 is radical 6???
Amen! This may be the proper way, but very long-winded. By changing them to improper fractions, 9/2 - 7/2 = 5/2 Then revert it back giving you the answer of 2 1/2. Quick, easy and makes sense to me.
I need clarity with the first one, answer B which equaled to 2 was circled, but it's not the answer... It's 2 3/2? If it's to be an improper fraction? I got confused a bit, with the second method of mathematical solving.
Thanks for that! That last problem was the bane of my existence. I got to the correct answer by some pseudo mathematical means, but you show a much simpler route. Again, thank you.
This was a great refresher on what I learned junior year, I didn't really do much math my senior year so I'm trying to study for placement tests and this is exactly what I was looking for. Good examples although idk if I could've done that third one on my own, but your explanation made sense.
If you solve the standard form Ax+By=C for y, it results in the slope-intercept form. The resulting coefficient of x the slope will be -A/B. So - A/B is the shortcut for finding the slope if the equation of the line is in standard form.
The first problem takes 3 lines. Simply factor out the 2^(3/2), you'll get (2^(3/2))*(2^(2/2) - 1) which simplifies to 2^(3/2)* (2 - 1) = 2^(3/2) * 1 = 2^(3/2)
So i was excited to try your interactive practice test and i ran into a few problems. Question one doesn't function properly. When i pick the right answer it says it is wrong. so could you please explain to me question one along with the correct answer. (Q1 --- 3^7/3 - 3^4/3) AND question four does not contain an answer choice that is correct. The answer you marked as correct is (y=3x-7) but that does not pass through the origin.
Agreed! I got confused a bit with the correct answer of question 1, is it 2 or is the improper fraction based example given to be as 2 3/4? Clarity's needed.
I am using this to help someone else study and I noticed on #2 that you multiplied the powers and then broke them up. The exponents are added not multiplied together to break them apart.
Woohoo! I tested into the math class that I studied so hard for. Thanks so much for the tutorials. The test was HARD, but your tutorials definitely helped!! Thanks a bunch!
sai kambampati Yes and no. I know that doing the practice videos- this one especially was the reason that I tested so well. But many of the questions that were on the test were ones that were not included in their official practice questions. So, yes. Definitely study from these videos, but also study from other sources. Good luck.
Hey, so I just have to take the 20 question multiple choice part , I think the last part which everyone is referring to... So do u have any videos other than this collection to watch ? I really want calc192, so any specific websites or videos would be wonderful!! And congratz btw
I have a question, in question number 4, when your checking to see if it has the quotient of 2. You don't take the -2 from 2x -2y=2 and do 2/-2 as -2/2 since theres a minus before the quotient, you don't cancel it out, or is it negative no matter what?
o scared of my Placement test that i ended up forgetting everything i learned for the past years. this has been a truly helpful experience, even tho im not confident i feel like i will do great. thanks to these reviews #blessed
Savy gg Sure ! If you express 3/2 as a mixed number you will get 1 1/2=1+1/2. So 2^(3/2)=2^(1+1/2). Now using the reverse of the product property of exponents we have 2^(1+1/2)=2^1 x 2^(1/2)
Studying using your videos, these aren't updated like the elementary algebra videos were.... Are these still the best ones I should be studying for the accuplacer test in 2017?
thank you so much! Your videos are great. I hate taking the accuplacer test's I feel like we will never use algebra in our careers. I would rather learn business math. I have to take the accuplacer to be able to go for Occupational Therapy. It's a pain.
You are actually a very good teacher, I am understanding as I'm watching this! I'm more worried about actually remembering this though, since my test is today in the afternoon. so I just did the practice test version of question 3 and it was done completely differently on there so i am so confused and for question 5 it says the answer is 3x=2y, but that makes no sense since when you substitute (3,2) it won't end up with the same number!!!
Hey buddy a couple of your questions on your pre-calc practice test on your website are incorrect. The oranges question doesnt tell us how big the bag is, and the question before that for parallel angles doesnt have a correct answer.
I just took a math assessment test today, although it wasn't the Accuplacer xD Nevertheless, I found this to be incredibly helpful and I ended up getting a 91/100 on the College Level math portion which I find funny considering I did slightly worse on the lover level math portions ._. Well, I guess that's because I didn't review my older math and only focused on the College Level material. Based on my scores and my overconfidence during the exam, I can say with 100% certainty that I probably wouldn't have landed into my desired Calculus classes if it wasn't for your videos. So thank you very much!
for #1, how are you getting 2 3/2 when I keep getting 1 =( sorry, i dont understand how youre getting the answer using the 2 different methods you show
I have a very strong feeling that I will be watching this video countless times over. It is VERY helpful but I think I'd rather watch you do it in person. Lol. I could use a lot more explanation on some questions.
You are the best accuplacer tutor on youtube but sadly I am still lost on the college level math part. My head was literally spinning with the whole ab+bx=ax and stuff. It's not you, it's just me not understanding it.
I am really horrible at math. I need to get an 82. The elementary and arithmetic seem easy. But the college level is really stressing me out!! Are the questions on the exam the same concept but with different numbers?????? I'm sorry to be asking I am just really nervous. My exam is May 21 at UTPA
i can't understand.. if i'll study communication and media .. why the hell should i do an college accuplacer test ?! i mean what the hell media will do with maths ?! plus we'll take maths just at the first year 🌚
Sure! I am using the product property of exponents. If you multiply two exponents with the same base you add the powers. So what I did was the reverse of that. Since you have the sum of powers (1/2)+1, you can reverse the rule and have the product of two exponents with the same base with those two addend values as the exponents.
elementary stuff was easy, college math part was a punch in the gut. Overall difficulty, especially if you haven't taken any math courses in a while, is about 7/10.
good video helps a lot, can you please tell me in the question 3 how you get your i=-1 thanks alot if somebody care here is another way to solve it x^2 - (2/3)x = - 7/3 then x^2 - (2/3)x + 1/9= - 7/3+1/9 then (x - 1/3)² = - 20/9 so there you go.
I don't even understand how to do #1. Sadly, this is not explained in any way shape or form that I can understand. I take the TSI in 3 days and have been studying for hours upon hours for days. I do really like the previous videos of yours, some I think you take the long way to explain, but THIS I cant even comprehend. What will I do? ),:
maths gotserved thank you soo much sir. and please is the accuplacer the same as the TSI for college? will watching all the playlist will help me for TSI?
Oh boy, I'm in trouble...
same lol
kesagatame aren’t we all
You guys are so funny lol!
yeah I'll start praying
preparing a day early is a bad idea
Jack TheRipper how was it
Jack TheRipper Try a couple of hours before.
Jack TheRipper ikr 😭
Preparing the morning of is a bad idea
Esha Latchman best of luck lol i gave mine and the result Is on 8th kinda scared
It's not the math that is difficult, it is the way they ask the questions. Just like SAT math. It isn't the math that's hard, it's the confusing nature of the question...just like AP calc.
this section is hard if you didn't learn it. the test isn't meant to be easy or hard it's just how much you know
hannah it just sucks when you need a score of a 45 for your major and got a 30.
Naww its all hard. 😒
Me : "oh that's easy, the answer is 2"
Him: "most people do it and get 2, that is wrong"
Me: 🙃
I am super sad.. I was doing great on all the other section.. and now I am completely lost.:(
That point where I went from Arithmetic and went "This is elementary", then jumped here, and am just COMPLETELY lost. Whoops.
Oh no sorry.
Ah, nevermind. Just the first problem intimidated me. The rest I've understood.
lol
Same here
some of these explanations are unnecessarily complicated.. #3, you can just use the complete the square method which makes it sooo much simpler and easier..
omfg ty man my mind was melting watching him do that question
Dat Sun can you please explain more
I wish you'd given the names to a of of the rules and methods you used. These equations are probably very easy for you and you can just do them off the top of your head, but for us folks out here... Lol. I died attempting to do the first one. Idk what im gonna do about the rest.
Thanks for your suggestion
For real though.
Please be advised that this test is the most difficult in the series of accuplacer tests.
What level math would this get me into? I doubt I could do it in this short of time, but if I could test out of college algebra that would be awesome
+maths gotserved thank god
did u pass? how hard was it? rate it from a scale of 1-10
maths gotserved is this the same as elementary algebra
maths gotserved thanks for that...
this section one is super confusing, i will be guessing a lot here lol
Lool, this comment gave me so much comfort, cause girl, if I got to this section level part too in the test; honestly, same.
I thought I was stupid until I read the comments and knew I wasn't by myself. Lol but I ain't giving up but the first problem just made my thoughts drift away #itainteasy . 😣
This test is flat-out ridiculous at times.
You are super smart

Cant thank you enough. Just did this work sheet and thought it was going to take forever to find all the explanations I needed. You're awesome
WE PASSED BOYS. UA-cam>ALL
i cant understand the number 3 is there any other way ?
You have saved me fr ! I was taking the practice tests and got all the college level questions wrong ! Then i found you and I’m getting them right !❣️
This is extremely helpful. You can explain everything so clearly. Thanks for the help! I need to practice, practice, and practice! I'm taking my test in a week. I hope i do great!

It is a property of exponents known as the special case of the nth root property of exponents.
Number One doesnt make sense, shouldnt it be changed into an improper fraction then subtracted?
Amen! This may be the proper way, but very long-winded. By changing them to improper fractions, 9/2 - 7/2 = 5/2 Then revert it back giving you the answer of 2 1/2. Quick, easy and makes sense to me.

Guess who’s gonna be in remedial math🤔
Sparkle Noire same 🤦🏾♂️
Thanks a lot. Almost all this stuff was on my exam!

Q#2 easy way to do..1/x +1/a =1/b : 1/x = 1/b - 1/a : 1/x = a-b / ab : flip over both side so x = ab / a-b
you're literally a life saver, just passed my accuplacer! thanks so much :)
On number 3, if I was able to factor out using the ac method I would I plug that in to solve it ?
Woohoo! I tested into the math class that I studied so hard for. Thanks so much for the tutorials. The test was HARD, but your tutorials definitely helped!! Thanks a bunch!
You are super welcome. We are glad that we could be of assistance
were the real placement test questions like the 20 practice questions?

Also... took me four hours. Not kidding. But I was super thorough and didn't want to make a mistake.
I DONT UNDERSTAND 😭 i feel like i used to be so good at math but now i know as much as a fifth grader!!
Do you think you can try to fix the audio? There were several instances where I had no idea what you said. Still a helpful video overall.
Can someone please tell me how he did the fourth step when he explains the first way of doing it? the 2^1/2 to square root of two.
I have a question, in question number 4, when your checking to see if it has the quotient of 2. You don't take the -2 from 2x -2y=2 and do 2/-2 as -2/2 since theres a minus before the quotient, you don't cancel it out, or is it negative no matter what?
Yes it is negative no matter what. You could have -(2/2) , -2/2, or 2/-2 they all yield -1
3:05 you need brackets or else you are only subtracting the inner numbers and not the full terms
does the quadratic formula ALWAYS always work?
Absolutely. It never fails lol.
wait is the math placement test and accuplacer the same thing?
You are very welcome. I wish you the very best in your exam!
So you take the common power number and place it on the outside of the parenthesis where you place the others inside?
derek morris That is right. It is the reverse of the power of product of powers property of exponents
Thank you a lot! I will take the CAT Mathematics 6 tomorrow and Im ready thanks to you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are very very very welcome.
How you did in your test? I have to take it on friday 😭
For question #2 is there another way instead of cross multiplying?
o scared of my Placement test that i ended up forgetting everything i learned for the past years. this has been a truly helpful experience, even tho im not confident i feel like i will do great.
thanks to these reviews #blessed
In order to get 4i when braking down the radical -80, did you add 2 and 2 or multiply it to get 4i?
No you multiply 2 and 2 to get 4.
I skidded this whole video no way ill ever go to work and need this at any job
In question 2 you said X is comma so you can factor it out... I'm still confused as to how you can do that?
how many chords in a circle with 97 points?
Haha! your funny
1/2(97)(97-1)=
4,656=
4,656 chords
how did you get 2 3/2 in the first one by the second method if it was 2 1/2 × 2 1?
Sorry about that. I wish you success in your exams
On the first question I'm like ,
" WHY IS IT THIS COMPLICATED ! "
You are actually a very good teacher, I am understanding as I'm watching this! I'm more worried about actually remembering this though, since my test is today in the afternoon.
so I just did the practice test version of question 3 and it was done completely differently on there so i am so confused
and for question 5 it says the answer is 3x=2y, but that makes no sense since when you substitute (3,2) it won't end up with the same number!!!
Thank you sooo much for this, I wrote my math test today and I passed thank you again
Hey buddy a couple of your questions on your pre-calc practice test on your website are incorrect. The oranges question doesnt tell us how big the bag is, and the question before that for parallel angles doesnt have a correct answer.
on number 3 does the quadratic formula always work or u can use completing of squares
Wow that is amazing to hear. You are very welcome glad we could help
Same here man im much more good in advanced math than the math i did in elementary. its funny how things work
Emani Bossman wow great news we hope it goes well with your educational pursuits
I noticed a lot of these questions are trick questions. Does the actual accuplacer test contain a lot of trick questions like this?
great, now i feel more stupid.
what type of questions have caluclators
Apparently using 2+-√16.5 /6 or it's 2 +-4i.5 /6 doesn't work because when I simplify it I'll get 1+-2i.5 /3 so I have to do it a specific way then.
Great video! great explanation, 10/10, you covered my back man.
for #1, how are you getting 2 3/2 when I keep getting 1 =( sorry, i dont understand how youre getting the answer using the 2 different methods you show
how did you get 21 in question number 3
are quesrtions on this test similar at least
I have a very strong feeling that I will be watching this video countless times over. It is VERY helpful but I think I'd rather watch you do it in person. Lol. I could use a lot more explanation on some questions.
my head hurts
will these be on the college placement test?
something similar
on question 1.
how is 2 to the one half equal the square root of 2? ugh im confused
ya you can that's what i did but i was recommended to take the math course because i past a test that said i was eligible for it
Please! Does anybody know how well I have to do in college level math to be accepted in my course ? ( Radiography ). Thanks!
4:33 why do you times the 1 by 2?
Oh sure! The reason is because I wanted to find the lcd of 1 and 1/2 so by mulitplying 1 by 2 top and bottom I have 2/2
You are the best accuplacer tutor on youtube but sadly I am still lost on the college level math part. My head was literally spinning with the whole ab+bx=ax and stuff. It's not you, it's just me not understanding it.
this vid rlly helped cause i faced the exact same questions when i first took the test
I am really horrible at math. I need to get an 82. The elementary and arithmetic seem easy. But the college level is really stressing me out!! Are the questions on the exam the same concept but with different numbers?????? I'm sorry to be asking I am just really nervous. My exam is May 21 at UTPA
i can't understand.. if i'll study communication and media .. why the hell should i do an college accuplacer test ?! i mean what the hell media will do with maths ?! plus we'll take maths just at the first year 🌚
I don't get how you got 2 3/2 out of 2 1/2*2 1 (on the first question the second time you explained it )
please help me out !!
Sure! I am using the product property of exponents. If you multiply two exponents with the same base you add the powers. So what I did was the reverse of that. Since you have the sum of powers (1/2)+1, you can reverse the rule and have the product of two exponents with the same base with those two addend values as the exponents.
Okay thank you so much!
I think you got write 2^1/2+1 instead of 2^1*1/2 and same thing for 2^5/2
How similar are these questions to the actual accuplacer?
oh my goodness! are they gonna provide formulas? this is complicated! taking mine today.
how was it? rate it on a scale from 0-10
Lol it would be much easier if you could use a graphing calculator. The one that comes with the program just does basic math.
elementary stuff was easy, college math part was a punch in the gut. Overall difficulty, especially if you haven't taken any math courses in a while, is about 7/10.
Defo would of helped if they provided formulas. That irritated me so much. At least let me take a flashcard-sized note...
True providing formulas would help
Is the test going to be the same as this? Has anyone taken it? Were the questions the same, but different numbers? Helllpp
good video helps a lot, can you please tell me in the question 3 how you get your i=-1 thanks alot if somebody care here is another way to solve it x^2 - (2/3)x = - 7/3 then x^2 - (2/3)x + 1/9= - 7/3+1/9 then (x - 1/3)² = - 20/9 so there you go.
Thank you so much. I didn't understand why he made it so complicated in the video. Your way is a lot faster and better.
Where can I get more practice questions?
Kai Z secure-media.collegeboard.org/digitalServices/pdf/accuplacer/accuplacer-sample-questions-for-students.pdf

for number 3 how did you get 21??
7 x 3
I passed math and writing and passed. I taken the reading part and I was 10 off both times I scored. How many questions am I off and what should I do?
sir, for #1 how did you get 2^2/(1/2)-2^1/(1/2)
It is the reverse of the product property of exponents a^(xy)=(a^x)(a^y) so it follows that 2^(2 1/2)=(2^2)(2^(1/2))
maths gotserved but why from for example, 2^(5/2) to 2^(2 1/2)
maths gotserved oh.. of course it was converted to mix numbers right?
Yes sir! that is correct improper fraction to mixed number
maths gotserved thank you soo much sir. and please is the accuplacer the same as the TSI for college? will watching all the playlist will help me for TSI?
I'm so bad at math that I felt like you explained it so well and I was still super lost lmfao
Can I take the reading and english portion of the accuplacer and not take the math and still sign up for courses? Not any math courses
