    Thanks again for your review, Doug. Again this pen is another great model of the Asvine collection. I like Titanium pens a lot and certainly will consider buying this pen soon. That you can swap nibs is a plus as I have a few Bock Titanium nibs that I can use with this pen.

    Hey Doug, always enjoyed your pen reviews, this one is no different. A suggestion I would like to make is to consider writing a couple of words (after say quickly dipping the nib into ink) to get a sense of how the nib writes before disassembling the pen, just to fully eliminate the possibility of reinstallation of the nib/feed playing any role in the nib's performance. I have on a few occassions noticed on pens then allows many degrees of freedom on how nib/feed can be inserted that even slight reorientation can have noticeable effects on flow and tine alignment, so it might make sense to see how much care the vendor has put in to ensure the writing experience is good 'out-of-the-box'.

    This is just up ny alley. I like the P30, but the titanium speaks to me a lot more than the brass. BTW, I had the same experiences with Bock nibs. Jowo nibs, e.g. from Goulet, seem to be smoother out of the box.

  • @watchingwatches5655
    @watchingwatches5655 Рік тому +1

    Thanks for another great video!
    Having liked the P30, I also got this. I typically try to avoid pens that are hard to clean, such as piston-fillers that don't have a tooless way to fully open the piston, but seeing that this seems to have a screw-in nib-unit I bit the bullet. I was wrong... The pen came with the piston seemingly smeared with grease. This shouldn't usually be a problem, except that the grease seems to have also gotten into the narrower part towards the front and this severely impedes ink-flow. The ink just stands there, not willing to go towards the feed. I think it does trickle down a little bit because the pen doesn't stop writing - just writing very dry and thin. No problem I say - let's crack open the nib-unit! Hmm... Doesn't budge... I think I bent the nib out of alignement just trying to twist this open but the nib-unit doesn't move even a tiny bit. Removing the nib without the unit is easy - simply pull, but this still leaves the feed-tube in plase, and doesn't really provide any clearing at all to get to the piston.
    So now I'm stuck with either having to get the special wrench, or returning this. I have a month to decide...
    Anyone knows a cheap good source for these wrenches...?

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  Рік тому +2

      The wrench for the Wing Sung 699 fits.

      @watchingwatches5655 Рік тому

      @@InkquiringMinds Thanks! A got the wrench (which is very cheap and should be useful for my P30 anyway) but decided to return the P36. It just had too many strikes agains it: The nib-unit is way too hard to remove. I ended up shoving a star-wrench with the appropriate size wrapped in a latex glove and had to really crank it.. Not nice... With the nib-unit out, I though it would be easy to flush out the barrel, just like the P30 or any Pelikan, but that didn't work either. That constriction in the acrylic barrel really doesn't let water through. I eneded up using a syringe, but this is just messy. So overally, this is a really nice looking pen, but way too much work for 50 plus dollars..

    I believe there is a nib holder, which is a norm now to all Chinese pen makers we have known. The initial installation is always so tight. A replacement with Bock requiring some ur etsy seller performing a brutal pull and push, which loosen the collar. No need to go for Bock B. A meshed factory f nib will be as broad as you could imagine.

    Thanks for another yet excellent and thorough review, Professor Doug! This is a very beautiful pen made from premium materials. Thanks for the heads up on the nib; given your previous reviews of Asvine pens [especially the P20], I would be inclined to opt for the Asvine M nib. I hope you don't mind sharing your thoughts about the difference between the material of the cap, and section screws. Titanium is much harder than acrylic and I wonder if that would affect the longevity of the cap screws. Asvine P30, albeit heavier, doesn't have that issue. Thanks again, and please keep up your excellent work!

    Together with the new release v200, all asvine metal pens got treadmill on sections. Without mentioning some pen maker from Antwerp, this design is pro to uncrew the section off the barrel, when each time the cap is unscrewed from section. I know Pelikan does so for over 30 years, but their section is glued to barrel. Still a fun pen, bargain.

    Is a pen with iridium nib good?

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  Рік тому +2

      Iridium is the tipping material, although most pens have a different kind of alloy than pure iridium. Most nibs have tipping material welded to the tip of the tines, regardless of whether they are gold or steel, and then they are ground to fine, medium, broad etc. Stubs have no tipping material.
