@@HoldenItDown In the end, that's what most people see - well, the people that stick around. But I gotta say, I repost that one vid a lot... but more in relation to the mainstream hostility against adoption - CENTURIES old hostility that has never really gone away. All that fear and paranoia that's hyper sensationalized, turned into urban legends... some truth but whole lotta bs and as with most things, the negatives get far more play than the positives. But this is an angle that frequently comes up - any differences between perspective families and children... and as you know, sometimes that translates into difficulties with the system, which turns to politics and sometimes, gets passed into superficial, virtue signaling, fear mongering laws that may hurt all involved. . . which sounds too vague but you know, it's like the pressure is coming from people on the outside that have never even considered adopting or fostering and have just surface knowledge of it, sometimes led by an influencer that grew up in a bad situation and treating it as if it's the collective and universal norm, especially in western nations. And some really as superficial as basing it on race, gender, sexuality, culture, religion, disability (increasingly affecting more lightweight labels) or similar factors. things that already are an essential component or consideration that's handled through supplemental services, social work and therapy but certainly shouldn't become a barrier to placement (ultimately, it affects more youth, particularly older kids to teens) and becoming a foster/adoptive guardian to a diverse range of youth.
But for too many on the outside, all this is very political and taken with the perspective of what they would do - despite never having even entertained the idea of adoption or fostering because they're already deadset against it. And truth of it is most of them aren't bigots per se, they would like to believe they're that they are the opposite... and that they're fighting a civil rights battle but in effect, their idea of protectionism becomes benevolent bigotry.. believing the system should be setup like a catalogue of prospective youth and prospective guardians, and those that don't appear like a 'perfect match' should be moved to clearance aisle, out of sight, out of mind... only further enabling the shortages of placements, which in turn, creates pressure laws like the preference on extended family - which in cases of abuse, far too often said families put children back into contact with their abusers. And there's many communities where these cultural emphasis is being played out - more complicated, taboo, is that relating to indigenous communities - that lack adequate foster care and related services within their own tribal govts. (which I say as being a registered member... tho, honestly, have more outraged people that are not... and yet the stats on our community is well known, higher rate of at-risk children in severe crisis and possessing multiple needs that even without the culture factor would be difficult to place. And on the dirty, our communities get massive grants for these issues yet the outcomes have only gotten worse in the past fifty years... even our govts became more established and some with corporate dealings worth billions, take for a moment, that the largest - most well funded tribal govt, is also in the top three worst. Even in-community, there's not a lack of available potential guardians (sitll on par with other communities, obv, majority not interested), but these laws make it difficult for those within the community, to foster and adopt children, outside of their family (distant cousins need not apply)... and there's many that want this kind of thing to apply to all adoptions/fostercare... and it's so, so difficult to get into the meat and bones about adoption/fostercare and educating the public when not only you have to deal with the myths and sensationalized stories (which by no means are the established norm, even tho, things could always be better) to then all these other inanities that should be smaller considerations, negotiable, as to finding the best match for both guardian and youth. . . )
But I digress... it's largely, you're a shining positive example, that has made your situation, life, family public... so, it's easy to show. . . among a handful of others. Though, I'd dare say it's an average example. But again, for so many people that would never consider fostering or adopting... they believe it's unique situation, a rarity. So, your vids work well on 'normalizing' it... and also, what the long haul is like.. vs all the varied lobbyist groups, activists, politicians, media, talkshows, whatever...
kim!! i'm not finished with the video yet but i wanted to say this before i forget. i've been watching since i was 15 or 16 and i'm 21 now!! i have been wanting to say this for sooo long lol but you have been such an inspiration in my life. i don't have a relationship with my parents because of reasons that i can't share online but seeing you be such an amazing daughter, mother, sister and woman makes my heart so happy. life can be reallyy hard but people like you give me so much hope. you are truly a blessing to this world and i enjoy seeing you and your family shine!! 🫶🏽⭐️ thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you do!! 🫂🥰

I understand the seizure thing! I had a brain tumor that caused me seizures since I was like 2yrs old until I was 20yrs. It was soooo HARD going through school having those things! I'm 41yrs now. Had two Brain surgeries to have the tumor fully removed. I feel so bad for those struggling with seizures because I KNOW that struggle. With kids, that's gotta be tough. ❤

I will say that as someone who has been watching since Lizzie was a baby, the fostering aspect of your channel was what really kept me drawn in but without you actively fostering rn I can understand how it can be difficult making the same kind of videos about it.

🧑🍳 Kim, I love when you do talks in your vlogs. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love all of your vlogs. I just feel that when you do your little talks, whether they are done in your vehicle, your prayer closet or your bathroom, they give new viewers a chance to truly experience how you are now and then they can go back and watch the old vlogs and they can see how far you have come and how much you have grown as a UA-camr. You have come so far and have grown so much since you first started UA-cam and I am so truly happy for you. The little mini vlogs/tutorials that Lizzie made are so cute. Lizzie is definitely going to be like you when she gets older. Eddie is a trip and a half with his little performance about the lasagna, lol. But yet he ate the lunch that Lizzie prepared without any issues. I can see him winning an academy award for best actor when he grows up. The egg cracker that nana got from Amazon is truly amazing. Most definitely am going to have to get myself one. The 5D diamond art is awesome and they look amazing? I want to try doing that but I am afraid that with my eyes, it will be next to nearly impossible for me to do. Missed Tyler in the vlog though. It's ok though, he'll be in the next vlog. Your story was a unique one that attracted me to your channel. I enjoy how wholesome your channel is and how much you love your babies. I think transracial adoption often get a lot of criticism because of cultural identity not being fostered or parents having the "I do not see color" approach when addressing race/identity issues the adopted children may face. Sharing your experience as a transracial adopted parent is so vital to uncovering the beautiful complexities of parenting.

I started watching your videos way back, I guess almost from the beginning... and I fell in love with your son Eddie immediately. Not going to front- I was viewing with a critical eye, looking for faults or some reason not to approve of you, the choices you had made or your particular situation. Then (gurl)... you started to grow on me as you , gradually revealed more and more about yourself and family. Now, I am just head-over-heels thrilled and proud of you all for how you have grown into such a model family- unlike any other I have seen- and I just LOVES me some YOU !!!
