    So if you take total profit and divide it by number of dvd's sold -that means you are making $4.55 profit on average for each sale (in scenerio 3, as you said this was the most common sale price). So you need to source, list, pack and post a dvd and for that you make $4.55 on the ones that sell, some dont I assume. Is it worth your time (and petrol) ?

    • @CLFurlong
      @CLFurlong  2 місяці тому

      This is correct, it depends on the individual if it is worth their time. If someone is able to sell 10 dvds a day, and pack then within an hour, that’s $45 an hr. Even if posting takes 15mins it is still a nice per hr! But yes all depends if they sell lol
      I totally see your point. This video isn’t to say “you should be selling dvds” but more so help see how people profit off low end dvds

    Even if I get DVDs for free, I would never sell them for less than $5 Inc post. I honestly don't know why people bother. I know they're easy to list, but for a $1-$3 profit it's not worth it.

      Yea, I don’t want to sell that cheap either, my focus is 9.97 for the everyday and then above for the more wanted. However it’s nice truck to have “auto accept” on dvds if someone offers 5+ as you know regardless you make a profit. Plus it’s cash flow :) thanks for watching and sharing 🙏🏼😎

    Thank you for the breakdown Chris. I have been thinking about getting into selling DVD's and I find your breakdown very easy to understand. Its also made me open up my eyes that I am sitting on a gold mine! I have a guaranteed source of DVD's that I pay on avg 3 to 8 cents a piece. Seeing as your basing your break down on cogs way higher then that I think I can buy in mass bulk to turn my store into a DVD store selling at $4-$5 plus post I think I should be good hands plus I have a bar code scanner tool to speed things up. My only question is do you take photos or do you use the stock photo ebay provides?

      this is amazing to hear mate! Way to go! To have that opportunity at volume and low cost, you are sitting on a gold mine! Way to go! Don't sell yourself out though (or cut everyone else out), do try sell the DVD's at market price to what the demand / supply is suggesting. What i like to do is list at market, with offers and then I know what my bottom is. I use Photos of my own. Front, back and of Disc to prove its there. Cheers!

  • @ruckus420
    @ruckus420 Рік тому +1

    Thanks for the video. However, I think the more interesting questions are HOW are you selling them for over $6, $12, etc (disregarding if it's a super rare dvd), and what exactly is your sell through rate? How many DVDs are you actually selling each day? And is it worth the gamble that it will never sell? We are competing with people that are selling DVDs at $1-$2 free shipping and that are posting thousands per day. I want to sell as many dvds i can a day, at the moment I sell about 11 to 15 each day at $4 to $5 each. I don't understand how it's worth it for a DVD sit around for 2 years waiting for it to be sold at $8 or more when the buyer can just go and buy the same item for $3. I could sell the same DVD 4 times over at $4 by the time it takes to sell 1 at $10.

    • @CLFurlong
      @CLFurlong  Рік тому +2

      You’ve answered your own question. It’s not worth it to have it sitting around that long, depends on your “cog” and margin to define how long you comfortable to have it sit.
      But to answer with my numbers; I shared in this video the average time to sit 50-70 days and how many I have sold in 2 years. That aside, I haven’t had 4000-10000 dvds till now so I’m starting to change how I operate. I still list all my mass dvds at 9.97 and I accept offers as low as 5. I also offer buy 2 get 1 free. Of the dvds I’ve had before my 10,000 media lot, I’ve had 2170 dvds. ~43% of those have sold. Based on your numbers, you sell 13 dvds and depending on margins maybe walk away with $16 profit and $58.50 cash flow. That’s good! At the moment I’m selling 1.5 dvds a day at 9.61 each which works out to be 6.83 profit per day or $14.42 cash flow - based off the scenario I shared.
      Dvds are not my only item I sell. I’ve got books being my biggest seller, then video games and toys along side the dvds.
      Yea I think it it’s worth it. It’s bread and butter and ticks over each month about $400 revenue snd 205 profit. For little to know work. With my current input. Of course if I was listing more, adjusting prices or focusing on selling more than listing I would sell more - but it kind of a set and forget. For someone starting, if you can get cheap dvds and then do what you are doing at scale it’s well worth it! That’s like 1755 revenue a month and $500 profit :)
      As I said to someone else. Just because it’s competitive, doesn’t mean you don’t compete. You gotta do it what works for you, and your model and your approach what you also bring to the table with the customer experience too. Great question mate, hope this clarifies better and my thoughts

Also one other thing, does B2G1 free work for you very well? Also how is the competition there regarding DVDs? For us in the USA, there's these huge resellers like secondsale, gopeachy, zuber, thrift books (for books) half price books, they even have their own company and warehouse.

    • @CLFurlong

      Well the comp is high, but we have 10x less people than USA, so not as bad as there I guess.

      I was trying to do a little research and found out that I can’t send a dvd with a case as letter rate because it’s considered ‘rigid’ and would be charged an extra 30 cents, and I don’t want that extra charge every time I send out a dvd, it’ll eat into the profits, so I’ll have to pay extra and send it via media mail. As least for now
      But if you were to send it as disc only you can put it in an envelope with 1 or 2 stamps depending on weight. And be able to send it cheaper

    Very informative video Chris! Do you have a cleaning process for DVDs? I've been a bit anxious lately about selling DVDs that aren't sealed or in very good condition. I don't sell DVDs if they're scratched as I don't have a disc cleaner, but if there's fingerprints and light marks I clean them with wipes for cleaning glasses lenses. Sometimes there's still some cloudy-like marks that are hard to remove though. I'm probably putting too much time and worry into this, especially for low value DVDS, but I'm interested in your thoughts?

      Dvds are actually no different to clothing. There are lots and lots of ones which will not sell, and if they do they are bottom of the barrel. However there are lots and lots of opportunities out there, it’s just very competitive and since they are low barrier to entry, it’s a real struggle. I personally have dropped 90% of my media for the time being while I’m building the business out a bit more - however I still believe they have a key % to my inventory going forward. I feel DVDS require a set of rules to ensure we don’t get stuck with so many. A lot has changed since I did this video a year ago

      Great question. Before the floods, maybe 1 every 90 days. Since floods I’ve had a couple a month. But usually $9 range. Not a big issue. In terms of my monthly revenue $18 is 0.02% haha not sure on your second point about being competitive, I’ve explained in the video about selling under $5 and is still worth it for a cash flow win and profitable too. Just because it is competitive, Doesn’t mean you don’t compete. If you don’t compete, you won’t sell anything. You need to assess the Barriers of entry and apply your own edge

      @@CLFurlong I watched your video through and it was very comprehensive and informative so thank you. I still don’t see the value in selling anything sub $5 including postage unless you are selling huge volumes. As I work full time and sell on the side I really have to be particular with what I flip.

      Yea that makes sense. The benefit is cashflow. For instance if every $1 you spend could make you $17 cashflow or $6 of profit. But i agree, the time you spend is key for the return you get. I currently spend about 90 hours month for $3000 profit on average per month.

      Need to be super careful with those ones on eBay. Majority of the time it’s stolen product from postal workers, or scammers. Sounds like you’ve had a good run with them. Be careful out there - I won’t be advising people to buy those, as it’s a little grey.

    No returns or refunds?

      Well yes, but over the last 2 years of selling I’ve done 20 refunds (don’t do returns as they do low value). With 5000 items sold that’s such a minimal factor. But from starting out yes it should be added in to consideration
