The TCM button sounds good for studio work because you can start your pre-setup in TTL then switch to manual for the actual shoot. That way you don't have to worry about the quirk that TTL has of having the exposure shift if you change the framing of your subject. It will result in making post-processing easier when the exposure is constant.

LADDA are a cheaper version of the Eneloop batteries sold by Ikea. They are made in the same factory and some have said they have even out performed the Eneloop in tests. I just bought 4 and they allow my flash to power up more quickly than my other rechargeables.

Strange 2 years ago you have given this perfect explanation, I come from eBay to find out they still sell it, and I’ll get one as I had this problem to uose any other products with most gear I have, at lest one serve all wonderful investments less to pay, it’s two years but late better than never, thank you 🙏🏻

These triggers are really great. When you consider how many features are packed into that tiny box for less than $80 it's completely worth the money (compared to over $400 for a Profoto trigger with fewer features).
I love the ALL button and the TCM button and use them often since I mainly shoot in Manual mode. When I first saw something similar to TCM on the Profoto system I thought that was the coolest thing but couldn't see myself paying for Profoto gear. When I learned that Godox had the same thing (plus more features) I sold all my existing lighting gear and went Godox/Flashpoint.
Glad that there is a *switch* to turn on/off the focus assist beam rather than requiring users to dive into a menu system to turn it on/off. I do with the focus assist beam was tighter like the Canon Speedlites, but hopefully that will be improved in the XPro III version whenever it comes out; because the XPro II version has a very similar focus assist beam.
I agree with you that manufacturers need to build gear to better accept rechargeable batteries.
Meanwhile, I find much more reliable results by using 1.5V alkaline batteries in my triggers than 1.2V rechargeable batteries. Everything else I do is with rechargeable batteries, but when it comes to a radio system I'll still use alkaline if it means more reliability.
*No Pass-Through* - Not sure why you recommend the Pixel King as an option for a pass-through hotshoe, especially since the Pixel King doesn't appear to be any better than the Godox X1T.
I have no experience with Pixel King, but I'm assuming it isn't *Cross-Brand Compatible* like the Godox X1T and probably won't trigger or control Godox speedlites or the larger Godox/Flashpoint strobes. I own the XPro (both the Godox and Flashpoint versions), the Flashpoint XPro II, and the Godox X1T. I use the X1T when I need an on-camera flash and it works fine, but for everything else, I really like the XPro II (except for some misfire issues with the AD600 Pro strobes).
The manuals are definitely a challenge, especially since I like to read the manuals and learn about everything my gear is capable of. I recently had issues understanding the manual for my AD200 and had to get online and ask around. After several responses someone was able to figure it out and now I know what the manual was trying to say.

question, will these triggers help increase the distance / range I can get between my speedlites and camera?

    • @JaredRibic
      @JaredRibic Рік тому +1

@@rosasparks9978 - Hard to answer that question without more information. What triggers are you using now, and what range do you have now?

    • @rosasparks9978
      @rosasparks9978 Рік тому

@@JaredRibic oh heavens, don't judge😅 currently just using commander mode with my Nikon's (d300s & d7100) I only get about 7 - 10 ft if I'm lucky. The photos are beautiful when it works, but tired of taking a great photo and then realizing that the flash didn't trigger because I took a step too far one way or the other.
Thank you for your quick response as well, I greatly appreciate it!!!

    • @JaredRibic
      @JaredRibic Рік тому

@@rosasparks9978 - No judgment here, you should have seen some of the stuff I started working with.
I'm very fluent in Canon, but don't speak Nikon too well, but I'm assuming the "Commander Mode" is an optical type of trigger system. If that's true, then it's a line-of-sight type of system, and you would definitely benefit from the Godox system shown in this video.
I use this system all the time, and to be completely transparent, there are occasions where I'll have misfires, but for the most part it's very reliable.
I've been able to trigger from over 75 feet with no problem.

This is still a great tutorial. I am being constantly let-down by my Pocket Wizard units as they work and then quit at the most inconvenient times. I need a dependable flash control system and this is looking good. I don't care what they cost, I need flash controllers that work every single time in every environment. I really like that you can set all flash sets at once with the "ALL" button. I just use a cage for any on-camera flash, but that's not something I need under normal conditions. Thank you, going shopping right now. :) I do wish you had spent some time talking about the receiver units.

For event photography get a flash bracket. Moves the flash further from the lens and the trigger can operate that flash as well. You can change the power settings from the tigger rather than the flash.

I had a Godox flash and was always having trouble with the Yongnuo triggers but after watching this I switched to the Godox X1 TTL trigger (cheaper here than the X Pro) and it works great. I'll probably get a couple more Godox flashes because they seem to work well with the triggers in a unit.

The flash settings locks in when in full view mode. Try setting your old flash to TTL mode while using the XPro in manual mode as it should adjust the power. Godox uses TTL protocol to control some other flash brands and it works for all my older flashes. I enjoyed the video!

When I bought XPro trigger, the seller recommended 1.5 V AA alkalines over rechargeable eneloops because of the voltage. 1.2 V eneloops may cause problems. It's a bit bad thing because I like to use eneloops instead of alkalines that you use only once.

Godox will get my vote IF they offer a dedicated website for specific camera brands, and highlight known incompatibility issues, which is something Yongnuo does not do. A forum for customer complaints and wishes would go a long way. Is this idea expensive? - probably the same price as a decent English translator for their manuals.

I have the xpro, the ad200 and the TT685, all by godox. These are my first flash set up, so not sure how they compare to other systems, but it is so convenient and versatile. I can have the TT685 on body, or the xpro onbody and the TT685 on a stand, or have the ad200 with or without the TT685, plus I can expand if necessary (so far I haven't needed to), so 2 units which can be off-body or one on, one off. It is a very useful set up and gives you loads of options...damn, I sound like a good salesperson...maybe other brands are as good (or better?), but it was relatively cheap to get going and easy for a noob (like myself) to understand (use UA-cam, not the manual, for set-up and how to use!)

Tip: you don´t need TTL Pass Through on the godox system for on camera flash, just get a TT685 Flash that have a Radio Master built in so you can use it on camera while it triggers off camera flashes also.... 2 things about the XPro trigger, the assist beam isn´t calibrated to align with the focusing system of the camera and is too visible that can show clearly on video or another photographer and the battery door is soooo loose. Even with that problems the unit is a great buy

Rechargeable batteries seem to be fine in the trigger but not much use in the flash. I find that even dry/alkaline batts don't last very long, they won't perform after a few flashes, once the voltage has dropped a little, so it's not too surprising that rechargeables, at 1.2V, hardly last at all, at least for me. I'm using a brand new, freshly charged set of Energizer rechargables. I'd be interested to know how many flashes you get from a set of rechargeables, I'm only getting about ten.
Anyway thanks for the video, much more useful than the 'Chinglish' manual!

steeletraining, many people never say good things over these overpriced transmitters:
< Canon ST-E3-RT transmitter for $300.00 with no ATG AF Assist Beam. Canon forgot?
< Profoto Air Remote TTL transmitter for $500.00. No ATG AF Assist Beam
If anyone knows, please share: AF Assist Beam works on all mirrorless cameras?
I was not able to get it to work on Canon EOS-R, Sony A7r III & Sony DSC-RX10 IV.
At the same time the DSC-RX10 IV is out of sync.
The AF Assist Beam is a life saver.
So set camera for one AF Focus Sensor based where you normally shoot at in dim light.
    Shoot in Single Shot Mode.
Remember the AF Assist Beam respects to lenses is like using a rangefinder camera.
Did anyone complain about the dinky viewfinder on the Leica M1?
Did anyone complain about the no AF on a ATG's Contax RTS & Rolleiflex 3003?
Bet you all didn't know ATG has one in AX (world's first body AF).
There are actually three versions by ATG/Godox:
    1. XT1 under $50
    2. XPro under $75
    3. R2 Pro II under $75
More photographers have purchased these transmitters than Canon, Profoto, Pocket Wizard & Quantum transmitters combined.
Nikon overpriced & outdated wireless IR ITLL flashes are going into the history book.
That Nikon SB-5000 was a dud like the Nikon DF.
    steeletraining, welcome back :-)

Quick note. The X1's are not 'cross compatible'. You must purchase the N, C, etc model as you even mentioned early in your video. If you have a Xpro-N and then switch to Canon you must purchase a Pro-C. You mentioned that if you switch to or in the middle of swtiching your system you can stay with the Godox flashes that you already have. Nope. Must purchase the flash model specific I.E., Godox TT685N for Nikon. The hardware is the same however the software is specific as well as each s/w upgrade. Also, not every flash model (Godox) supports TTL. The entire system is outstanding.

Great video! Thank you for your explanation. Still finding out if this would work out with my Nikon SB800 in manual mode.

Hi Phil, i got one question regarding Yongnuo flashes. Is it possible to trigg the YN 560iii, YN 560 IV and YN 968 with the Xpro, but without the X1R on the YN flashes? I thougt they have the same Frequenz (2,4GHZ). I tried it in the manual mode, but it doesnt work.

You mentioned the problem you had with the Canon 430 EX: the trigger will only activate the flash in ETTL mode. Well I discovered the same problem with my 580 EX. None of the other functions on the flash are available to me using the XPro-C trigger and X1R-C receiver. On the other hand, I had no problems with the 580 EX II. I tried swapping the X1R-C receivers between both the 580 EX and the 580 EX II, but I got the same result. I wonder if anyone else has had the same problem?

Thanks for the report, Jim. Sounds like maybe something doesn't quite work with the older generation flashes.

ATG circuits were not implemented until on 580EX II.
Canon made a big mistake & didn't know how important the ATG Auto2 mode was. So its taken well over 15 years for them to put those two features in and paying royalties on 580EX II, 600EX-RT, 600EX II-RT.
Simply put it won't work on older flashes below 580EX II.

Have you noticed any issues with it caused by the rechargeable batteries? (besides the battery indicator). It's 'because I'm planning to use it only with rechargeable AA batteries.

The set button makes sense, so accidentally you do not change your settings in a shoot, makes all the sense, after a while it will become second nature.

Phil, I've taken your courses and watch your videos. This one got me interested in Godox, as I'm outfitting a new Sony kit. At this point, would love to see a comparison (pro-con) to the newer Godox X2T.

Hey, do the godox triggers function with other brand? Like would a godoy trigger function with a nikon flash or a youngnou?
Or does the ttl/hss not work?
    Same with the youngnou trigger.
    Thanks for a response!!!

Thanks Steele. Happy New Year. I have a question and wish you could clarify for me. (1) I'm looking to buy Godox AD400 flashlight (2) I use a Nikon (3) I have a Nikon SB flash. My goal is to be able to use the Nikon flash and Godox flashlight mostly together during studio shoot. The question is . Do i need a Godox trigger and one receiver for the Nikon SB flash light only so both lights can work simultaneously? Additionally, in the world of Godox is Transmitter == Trigger?
