Me and my wife have never hit dislike on any UA-cam video. Ever. If we don't like a video we stop watching it. As far as you getting nasty comments, it would bother me too. I wish I could be like my wife, she actually gets the giggles when someone insults her.
Interesting! I also have the "elephant sitting on my chest" days, caused by stress. Usually goes away when the current work problems subside. I'm also a fan of the "typewriter" mechanic - and would argue that it's sort of present in Monolith's Batman Gotham City game. Sort of. Although curiously I have only just begun enjoying roll & write games (previously they caused my too much angst) so might have bough three of them this morning!
Really enjoy your videos and rants Luke, keep them coming. I appreciate honesty and clarity. There are way to many opinions that just gloss over stuff or just love everything 🙄. Don’t let people get to you, I don’t understand those that get so personal and vicious over an opinion. If we all thought and think the same it would be boring and unrealistic. This is what makes you stand out from the crowd for the better in my opinion. People seem to forget it’s ok not to like a game and there will be groups that love it. It’s only a game people enjoy what you enjoy and let it go.
Sorry to hear your getting haters and trolls in some of your video comments, unfortunately that seems to be the way of some folks online these days. My favourite mechanism would be worker placement but I also like deck building especially in clank.
Yeah too many of them sadly - newest one on the Arcs video is a major troll but I'm humouring for now. It's good to have some proof that some of the defences been thrown around are such cliche tropes!
Looking forward to the review of Draft & Write Records, interesting you mentioned there is no hate drafting as every time I have played it there has been a lot of consideration of what other players are going for and stopping people from meeting goals where possible.
But by doing so you're likely making yourself turn out worse. A card that's stopping them is likely going to be terrible for you. And if you're the only person hate drafting, the ones who aren't will do better.
I like your Videos specialy the "rant Videos. They are very entertaining. I don't understand peiple who can't accept a differant opinion about their favourite game. Don't care about them, there are a lot of "Trolls" out there. Greetings from Germany😁
I really do think you would like El Grande. It is such a clean design. Also, you like Dominant Species Marine don't you? That is area control through and through ;)
I do indeed, there are certainly exceptions to the rule - I think DOM's advantage though is the action selection mechanism and the strong theme in the game.
If its any consolation your thoughts on Arcs completely echoed my experience and I thought you presented it in a very fair way. Trouble is there are a lot of nasty people on the internet, try not to let them get you down. Keep on putting out awesome stuff!
Luke - thank you for all your reviews - you at the top of my board game reviews to watch - bought Tidal Blades Banner Festival because of you - and now my youngest 6 year old is playing it with us! As for negativity - let me chime in - there are so many events around us - family, work, death, political etc etc - so I wonder how folks have enough had in the tank to unleash about the board game? Some guy does not like the game I like and in fact present some arguments - common now! I am up with you on Hegemony, higher on Kutna Hora - but you might trash any game I like for what it is worth - I would not care - I guess others have perfect life around them and board game commentators are the only their concern So - please, continue and don’t pedal back (like 5 out of 10 is not bad etc - dogs are barking, caravan keeps going…) Thank you again - I will actually buy one of your shirts these days in a an effort of support….
It's sad to hear people attacking you for not loving Arcs. I can only assume their love of Arcs is a product of hype (SUSD) and their gaming circle, rather than a conclusion reached through their personal experience with the game. It's just incredibly suspicious. The whole "your group must not be smart enough" reeks of a need to construct self-worth from entertainment preferences. I love Wars of the Roses: Lancaster vs York by Peter Hawes, no doubt because it was one of the first games I ever bought and had the best production quality and immersion I'd experienced in board gaming at that time. It's not well-known, has a 7.4 on BGG, and seasoned gamers will probably find it average. But no amount of criticism against it will change the fact that I have great memories from playing it, and I don't feel the need to defend my experience or invalidate someone else's. Keep doing what you're doing.
Oh it gets better, someone tried to tell me that 10+ plays was insufficient because I did them within a week, as I'm apparently supposed to take a break or something to allow the thoughts to "settle and gestate" over time and then I'd suddenly love the game. I couldn't roll my eyes harder. On the plus side for all the haters I may have wrathed, the video is over 10,000 views now!
- Our game tastes generally clash but we overlap too. - I'm not a fan of Deck Building, but love Multi Use Cards, Auction & Area Control. Push Your Luck is only ok for me. - We agree on Drafting, "Typewriter" and X & Write. Do you like any of these?: - Auction: "Don= Serengeti= Templari" (bids get restricted by prior card bids won). - Area Control: "Patrician" or "Ethnos" or "Web of Power= China= Iwari" or "Rumble Nation" (latter with cascading control effect).
Personally, I find a number of mechanisms even more tedious: - Open-ended/unstructured negotiations. Much worse than auctions because at least auctions normally only go up and end at one point. With negotiations, it happens very often that they go back to square one… And some people are just too stubborn and uncompromising which makes negotiations really tedious. - Set collection. Mostly just pure luck, you are passively waiting for certain logos/symbols to come up and mostly you can’t really do anything about it. Can be too frustrating. - Running up tracks. Just the most boring mechanic ever. So unimaginative and uninspired, moving up a few steps to usually just get some random bonus items. Rarely with any real thematic rationale. Pure laziness by the authors, seems they can’t be bothered to come up with something better instead.
I get you on "unstructured" - negotiations do need a timer or something to push the game forward. I usually introduce a timer or make a solid push to move things along in those games. Yet set collection is kind of in the "meh whatever" category for me. Ha ha, yes I do agree entirely on the tracks front, I guess I didn't class them as a mechanic in themselves, they just seem a means to an end.
I want to tell you ignore the haters but I know it's not easy. There's definitely a bit of a cult mentality on that side. Keep doing what you are doing, you're awesome. Looking forward for the Q&A.
Actually i usually give a thumbs up when i watch a Video... eventuell if i dont really like it out of respect for the creator of the Video. However as you know i would let them know in the comments. But... i have learnt liking listening to you 😉
Luke just ban people. Don't let losers circulate in your comments section. Everyone knows you encourage disagreements, but jerks? As in any other setting that needs to be dealt with.
I don't agree with everything you post and I haven't touched Arcs, not a game for me, watched your video and thought okay, certainly not for me. But people attacking you, or your friends and fam, that's just not okay. Your CGE video was great, I think Kutna Hora is one of their greatest, but guess we'll just disagree on that slightly :)
Glad I found your channel. Your reviews all seem very genuine , you tell the truth regardless of what's popular right now . Keep up good work !
I appreciate that and welcome aboard, thanks! :-) Hype and popularity is irrelevant in whether a game is good, I'm out to be that voice.

@@TheBrokenMeeple that hasn't been my experience so far in about 20 plays
Do you think civ a new dawn is worth playing on its own, or do you need the terra incognito expansion? (2 player only)
I do highly recommend the expansion

Disney Animated is a coop game that uses the Civ/Ark Nova Action selection mechanic.
Never even heard of this game, but glad to see the mechanic used again! Not sure that's going to be bring this game up enough though.
I call the AN mechanic "action sequencing".
I think the new game Minos has some area majority in it.
B & D have yet to get me excited for a title in a while, Minos isn't helping.
