The thing by all accounts is the not only the best monster movie or even horror movie ever made, but if you watch it so much that it’s not scary it’s just a great plot of guess who. One of the best movies ever made and under appreciated in its time.
Its so ironic that The Thing is now considered the best monster movie of all time, and yet when it came out so many weirdos and critics hated it. I can't see how anyone who cares about horror could see and hate The Thing.
I worked in movie theaters when The Thing came out. It was so disappointing that it was overlooked and audiences were freaked out by the gore. I saw it four times in the two weeks it played at our theater. The last time I saw it was later that year at the Drive in and it started to lightly snow. Perfect way to watch that movie. I remember a bunch of college students laugh derisively at the trailer when "The Thing" title came up and then thinking, "I bet if you watched this movie you wouldn't be fucking laughing".
When it came out in cinemas to General Audiences it freaked them out so of course people didn’t like it. The popularity of the film rose through home video sales growing in popularity within the Horror fan base.
A problem 'The Thing' had was the other movies in the theater at the time. 'E.T.' was the number one movie and had only been out a couple of weeks. Poltergeist was already in theaters. As was 'Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan.' 'Blade Runner' came out the same week, and 'Tron' came out a couple weeks later. The market was sorta flooded with genre movies.
@@locustjohn3865 Tron and Blade Runner both got crappy reviews too! Not all those movies came out at once. And that has nothing to do with critic ratings anyway.
Saw the Thing on HBO. Thought it was/is remarkable and quite bold considering it’s bleak ending. Found the effects stunning not scary. Saw ET in the theater and it scared the hell out of me during the full alien reveal! (I was 8)Left the theater shaking and depressed haven’t seen ET since, viewed The Thing at least 20 times!
I watched The Thing a couple of years ago in a cinema. I'd only ever seen it on cable or DVD. It was an even better experience sitting there in the dark, with Ennio Morricone's freaky ass score booming over the speakers. Gave me nightmares all over again lol.
The best thing about The Thing, is there are no stupid characters, even if it's possible one of the characters did something stupid it's never done out of a cheap excuse to make a stupid character move the plot forward, that script is pretty much perfect.
Neither of you actually paid attention to the film then. Windows is a perfect example. Flamethrower doesn't work and he just satnds there and gets killed. STUPID! And how can a character do something stupid, but not be stupid? That's stupid to say.
@@kyleplatz3751agreed. I’ve seen people that are genuinely smart and make good decisions consistently. You're in your car. You're driving. And suddenly you realize there is a python in the back of your car. Terrifying! Until you realize it's Eric Idle. Who then proceeds to swallow you whole.
Bill haders take on alien is just wonderfully sad cuz it's exactly how I felt when I first watched it as a kid, I remember running the movie from Blockbuster not knowing what it is because I can't thinking that all alien movies were friendly like ET at that time LOL damn was I wrong, the thing that bill says about that idea that you getting in your car and there's a snake in the back of the car and it on curls up and it realized that it's in a car with somebody just like the alien is a stowaway on the escape pod with Ripley haha it is scary to think like that

It IS Skull Island, but that isn't one of the skull crawlers. I have no idea what it IS lol, but not a crawler. It's just an oversized bug that actually ends up taking off BECAUSE of a skull crawler haha. (Side note: the crawlers are some of my favorite giant monsters in a movie 🙌🤣 and Skull Island is actually a pretty great movie.)
Why would they put Godzilla in Kong into this, yes they're monsters but they're not monsters, they are supposed to be heroes........ I love how Jack Black is in this haha and he does have a point cuz you can't help but love Kong and he's not really the monster it's really the bastard shooting at him
Tarantino sees race in literally everything. King Kong??? So he's saying a giant ape is an avatar for black American males...yeah, that's not racist at all. 😏
I mean he’s right, that was one of the hidden messages behind King Kong. It’s the same thing with the Frankenstein films having homosexual and atheist undertones due to the director of the films being a closeted homosexual and an atheist. You shouldn’t call people racist just because it’s what it seems you know
Tarantino is famously a major dick head when people meet him in person. He's made some of my favorite movies of all time, but the fact is that the guy's an asshole, and it's not surprising to me that he's got some stupid takes on things.

Preach it, brother.
Still think Alien is a far tighter movie, and vastly more original. Love them both immensely, though.

Seen it twice in theaters, my copy of the movie is signed by Windows and Benning's actors. Soon hopefully also Keith David.
This was so awesome to watch thank you for uploading!
Thank you for this!!
OMG came here for Hader but from that vision I discovered I could never watch IT ... way too scary. Think I will go back to SNL reruns. thanks
The Thing. Nothing else even comes close.
I think the reason "The Thing" gets creepier with time is because it's plausible. Scariest thing in recent memory "Black Mirror: Playtest"
What I have discovered throughout life is that Bill Header is ultimately unknowable.
I love how some comedy actors are involved in this horror talking documentary, I wasn't expecting Jack Black to be here haha

I just watched it, and I understand exactly what it is now and what John Carpenter's message was to the world if not America
Is this all Of Bills moments in the episode?
In this episode yes. He's there a tiny bit in episode 1. Not as much as this though.
