I use cold water. To dry in winter I lay them on the radiator. Summer outside if it's sunny. Sometimes I hang them, sometimes they lay flat and might need a couple of soaks to shape.
Hi Paul I an new to these styles of flies but keen to try scaled down pike flies for big predatory brown trout in my local rivers such as the Clyde. Can you explain the differences between hollow tyings and bulkhead and reverse bulkheads styles please. All the best Graham.
I tie BULKhead in hollow style 99% of the time. The only difference with that and a standard hollow is that the bucktail butts are tied in long to create support and additional density. By doing so means the fly doesn't sink quite as fast as air gets trapped in the hair in addition to the butts being a little more buoyant. You'll see if you tie both styles.
Great video again, Paul. Do you always add weight to the hook? I think it might be the answer for your patterns that I’ve tied but mine don’t seem to sink too easily.
Quite a few of the patterns I tie designed to sink slow and fished in a sinking line. The little weight is to keel the fly, as most freshwater streamer hooks are fairly light wire compared with saltwater hooks. The weight just help the fly track hook down and not spin.
Hey Paul, I watch your videos many times and pick up something new to me each time. One question I do have is, do you prefer to soak the flies and hang dry them before adding the eyes. I realize for the purpose of the instructional video, you plow through and add the eyes. But, givin' the choice, do you prefer to soak them first!??
I always run them under cold water and dry them against a radiator first. It's because I usually tie in batches and in the habit of shaping them then. I don't think it makes much difference either way.
@@paul_monaghan thanks Paul will have a look and try it as I am getting allergic reaction to UV lately, my eyes starts burning and all, will give this a try. Thanks.
Very well explained. Lovely pattern.
I may spin up one for some bass.
Thank you! I appreciate the response!
Great pattern, simple but effective. Thanks for sharing.
Cool stuff, as ever paul!
Great video..well done mate!!!
Great design! I love this one! 👌
Howdo you soak your flies?
Like do you use warm or cold water and for how long do you soak them?

Great video as always my friend. Question which of the gorilla glue do you use? Have you a link so I can see the correct one so I can buy it? Thanks 😊
