    Man I hated adding the ice to the buckets and need something like this, for sure. Went back to soil because I didn’t have the time to stay on top of the water temperature like that.
    I did insulate all my buckets with the reflective bubble insulation, like people use for windshield sunscreen protectors in cars. It seemed to help regulate the temperature longer in the black buckets. My tents have been as high as 84 in summer. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

    Man, I ordered it even shittier chiller that took a slow boat from China and then the next day. I saw this video and went on Amazon and found that exact chiller for 129 on prime day. Just gonna return the super shitty one and use this one. Super stoked to know it works well. I really wanted to do a DWC but my res so far has hovered around 77 and I thought I would never find a decent chiller in my price range. Believe it or not in my hippie ass town with 4 hydro stores no one has 1 inch black tubing in stock and it’s pretty damn expensive online. I can get 1 1/2 inch for half the 1 inch price. Must be the popular size. Thanks for the video! Chiller gets her tomorrow so now I am really stoked. My girl has been in the DWC for a week and looks strong and since the roots are finally hitting the res it’s time to cool

    Some pumps are famous for heating up the water themselves, i like this invention but i also would treat my hydro pumps like a fish tank pump, i make sure i keep it as cool as possible, i live in the caribbean and Hawaii, to me this is a big issue. Not only heats up the roots but also messes with the PH

    You can change from F to C. Press set + up arrow for 3sec. not 4. it has to be 3sec. it will show advanced menu. Also if you really want it cheaper just buy the 144W 12V peltier cooler, 12V 180W 15A power, STC-1000 controller. the controller in this device is willhi WH7016R.

    For about the 8th time i decided to try rdwc again without a chiller, and fot the 8th time it failed. It always happens about the 2nd week in flower, no matter how many frozen 2 liters i rotate in. Ive been building these rdwc setups for about 12 years now, and i used to have a 1/2 hp chiller, but things happened and i dont have a chiller now, but i still built a small 2 site setup that was just kickicking ass until it wasnt. But this sounds perfect for my small 2 plant set up and would hold me over til i build a bigger set up needing a bigger chiller. I will tell you this. With the right sized chiller, in the past, i usullt average 1 1/2 - 2 lbs per plant when vegged for 6 - 8 weeks.

    • @HowWeedGrow
      @HowWeedGrow  2 роки тому

      Yeah my yield on 4 plants is crazy. Plants weren’t even that big but I’m pretty sure I got at least 2 lbs because all of it was buds. You could check my hydro grow on my channel. My plants were fine without the chiller and just frozen water bottles but it became a hassle. My MVP was using H2O2(hydrogen peroxide) in the water, that immediately changed everything and I stopped using all those beneficial microbes everyone swears by.

    Hi.
    Can you tell me if it is normal for the water pump to continue working and circulating water through the chiller, even when the chiller fan is in stopped mode because it is at the correct temperature? I see that although the chiller is not activated, the water is still running through the system and the pump is still activated.

    Is the condensation on the outside of the buckets a problem? I saw it puddling up a little at the bottom of the buckets inside the tent….I think. Maybe it was just a reflection.

    • @HowWeedGrow
      @HowWeedGrow  2 роки тому +5

      No not a problem, I have water built up from the humidifier. The only issue I would be concerned about is late flowering when you have to drop humidity or else you will increase the chances of white mold.

    • @Des420
      @Des420 2 роки тому +1

      It can be an issue. It’s temperature loss which makes the chiller work harder and has the possibility of pooling on gear you don’t want wet. It’s also adding humidity, as he mentioned. More work on your dehumidifier and a real worry with PM or budrot in a tent or small space.
      Reflectix or Double Bubble are fairly inexpensive insulation that is easy to work with, and helps solve this issue. It also works great for keeping light out of the res /bucket lids and insulating them as well. It’s a couple degrees cooler than ambient, without a chiller, so in some instances, that stuff can be the difference between root root and a healthy res.

    The best chillers for DWC specific is insulated buckets with a NovaTech Coolworks chiller probe, or a RDWC system with a real chiller (compressor/gas instead of peltier chiller). Lately i've been wanting to experiment with DWC and micro chillers, especially the compressor ones. Cool stuff. 🧊

    New to RDWC is water temp the absolute backbone of success or failure? Im moving over from coco.
    For feeding how long or when do i know when to change the water? And when adding more nutrient solution, im guessing i drain the system and add the mixed nutes back in? Or do i too off? With that im scared of contamination or nute lock

    • @jay71512
      @jay71512 5 місяців тому +2

      Change every 10 days at least. Water temps are important but not critical. A few degrees over is fi e just watch for rot and use h2o2. Beneficial bacteria always failed for me so I go with sterilisation instead and it's cheaper. When changing res, drain it all and replace with fresh mixed nutes.

      You do NOT want the chiller dumping cold water on the roots! It will retard the root growth and cut into your yield. I pull water from higher up in the reservoir and return it lower down. It mixes in the res before hitting the root zones.

      One harvest will pay for the proper chiller in the increased yield from using it… And you’re going to spend 1/2 to 3/4 of that cost making one yourself. My time is worth more than that, and I don’t have to deal with the unpleasing aesthetic of a mini fridge or window ac in an otherwise high tech system.

      @@HowWeedGrow Buy a used water cooler off market place ( $15- $35 ), one that you would normally put a 5 gal jug in the top. Now tear it apart so that you are left with the compressor and the cooling coil. Some of the cooling coils are coated in a protective plastic and some are not. If the one you have doesn't have a protective coating on it just wrap a plastic bag around the coil so you don't get any oxidation in your nutrients. Place the coil directly into your nutrient reservoir. Buy a device that will monitor your water temp. I use the ITC-308 ($50). Plug the compressor into the cooling plug on the device and set your water temps. I set my water temp at 67 deg and set the turn on temp at +2 deg (69).
