Today after work on a real bad-hair-day I had to decide between asking my son (favourite dish is "Dont't know, whatever") and "What I cook is what You get". After a look into the cabin and the fridge I remembered this video, and so I started... 🤔 There was one more left-over paprika that I didn't want to waste, so first it was a little bit on the mild side. With some hot chili sauce (NOT CHILI JAM!) I finally was on the right way. We had it with rice, which is an all-purpose-weapon to get my son satisfied... So I've had one hour of joy in the kitchen, a really delicious meal and two thumbs up by my son! Couldn't be better... 😀 That You, James, for sharing Your ideas and recipes. Actually You saved my day...! 👏👍🙂

We absolutely love this dis at our house it has been a while. You have inspired me to make this James Yours looks amazing. Video was beautiful to watch
Nice variation. Spent nearly a third of my life (I'm 58) in North Africa and the Middle East. I've eaten Shakshouka literally hundreds and hundreds of times. Personally I always add Harissa when I cook mine and I've never added meat. However I think I'll definitely give this a try. Great upload as usual James.
Shakshuka is definitely one of my favorite brunch items you did a spectacular job loving the addition of chorizo in your dish and like the three different types of paprika from smoky to spicy.
This recipe reminds me about a very similar spanish "brekfast" recipe i made years ago, i have forgotten about this one. Thx for inspiring me to make this again 🫡
Finishing with feta, or bulgarian white brine cow cheese, or something similar works really well with this in case you haven't tried. Of course, mind to dial down the salt accordingly. You'd have to dial down the chorizo too, if you were using that.
I've seen shakshuka but have not tried it myself, but I just got some chorizo recently and the recipe is pretty simple. I will definitely try this out. Thanks for the video.
8:30 I make a chorizo breakfast casserole you might like to try if you have an hour to spare to prep and cook it all. You have to fry up some crispy hash browns to add to the casserole dish which takes the longest, but it's pretty easy to make overall. Sautee your chorizo like you normally would, taking the time to fry some diced onions in it's fats as well, once the potatoes and chorizo are close to fully cooked mix together in a casserole dish then add 6 beaten eggs over the top and sprinkle a solid 1-1.5 cups of Monterrey Jack cheese on the surface then finish cooking in the oven, 350°F/180°C for like 15-20 minutes. The Monterrey Jack cheese has a creaminess that balances out the smokiness of the chorizo and the saltiness of the hash browns.
it probably is, its very easy to make! the funny thing is, that the Mexicans have a version of this with a salsa (huevos ahogados) it also very tasty! haha
Muy buena receta. Mi novia suele hacerla al estilo turco, pero con chorizo suena delicioso. Lo vamos a probar. Gracias por explicar todo tan detallado y comprensible! Saludos desde Suiza de un español!
Great tip on taking off the casting. I've never thought to do that. Oh you are brave using your blitzer in the can like that! I'd have it splattered all over everything!! hahaha! Great tip on using a bowl to add your eggs. No digging!! This dish looks super delicious...served on toast looks great too!! Have a great week! 🌷🌼😊
im so gald that you liked it Alyena!! im sorry for the late reply, i have been sanding the plaster Paris walls and painting all day today so im exhausted! haha have a great week!! :)
What a beautiful dish!! I've never tried this before but I could see it as a dinner. It would be so delicious with bread! Thanks for the cutting tips! I have never thought about cutting garlic as the same way as an onion. I'm going to have to try it. Thx!!
I made shashuka for the first time today thanks to this video. Used mexican style chorizo and peruvian limo peppers. Melted cheese on top. It was amazing but I overcooked the eggs and i love running yolk. Next time i will get it
We all need that quick, easy, tasty dish, when time is short. Shakshuka is also one of mine and without the chorizo, it's incredibly lo-cal. It's great for a cold, grey (gray) night. A rib-eye with quickly-made fries is another quickie for me with a cheat hollandaise and tarragon (if available) . I was hoping you would do shakshuka. But what is interesting is how so many countries have so many similar dishes (but I think I've said this before)
The emersion blender in the can blew my mind 😅I ALWAYS removing sausage casing for the very reason you said haha Eww! The eggs look so perfect and I love this dish James!! Looks so beautiful too!!
wow, i never really noticed the flexibility difference between red & green peppers. But, now that you point it out, I think I do remember several times when green peppers split. Huh. Neat Fact!!!
Mmmm....we LOVE Shakshuka, and I just made a batch for the wife and myself last week, and it is one that I like to make often, as so fast and easy and can play with the flavours. I like the addition of the chorizo, as like you say all the flavours from that can go into the sauce too! Great video yet again!!
Took the recipe as inspiration for my own (dinner) version. Substituted the chorizo with salsiccia (I do like spicy food but I didn't want it to be spicy and I otherwise could only get spicy chorizo) and added potatoes and it was one of the most delicious dishes I've eaten in a long time. It was honestly SO good! Thank you for the introduction, will definitely experiment a bit more with the base.
Yeah this is a really nice base recipe to experiment with, I think many if not most cultures have their own take on it. I'm a vegetarian so I'll probably try smoked tofu or beans instead of the meat, and boost the flavor of the sauce with a little tomato/paprika paste. This is great for quickly using up all the leftovers. :D Even shakshuka has many styles, Middle Eats has a nice video on it. I'm from Hungary and we are big on paprika so this Spanish style is close to my heart/pantry :D (We have a similar dish here "lecsó" but it's more bell pepper dominant and the eggs are usually scrambled into sauce) About the potatoes, I've also seen an Italian version which was focused on potatoes and eggs. Then there is the potato hash which is less saucy.
I always think of Chef John saying that he will start shouting Shakshuka randomly after learning the name. SHAKSHUKA!!! I'm sure a Shakshuka is some sort of Ultra Man creature. Great video and I adore shakshuka. I wonder if I should be a bad person and name my pet Shakshuka. Naaah, it'll be Phillip!
Oh this easy Shakshuka recipe looks fantastic but I'm sorry Chef I was laughing out loud at the thought of tomato sauce flying across the room hahaha!!!!
haha yeah it does happen! thank you Patrick!! sorry for the late reply! i have been cleaning the plaster walls today and painting all day long and im not even near being done! haha 😂
