I personally use a Line6 PodX3 (Red Jellybean looking thing) so having you display the individual dial percentages are VERY helpful. Awesome tone, awesome video, thanks, pal!
I was gonna sell my x3 live. This video is amazing! Can you please make more videos on groove/ thrash / hardcore metal tones? Thanks in advance and great job!
Good afternoon friend, I have doubts when ordering to mount the preset on the x3 pro. What sequence to use until you get to the amp and cabinet. The HD display is less complicated. Then take a video with the most central camera for a front view. Your videos are incredible. TKS 👊.
Amazing as always man! Show this to glenn fricker so it pisses him off...you're the reason i got the x3 live instead of the hd500x because of your comparison videos and the fact the x3 comes fully loaded with no expansion packs
Do the drivers work with Catalina? I’m unsure if I should get something like this or just get the neural Dsp gojira. This has mic inputs, bass amps, piezo simulation and more amps but if gojira sounds significantly better I would go for gojira since I already have an interface.
great tone i just got an x3 pro first f/x unit is there any chance you could do a vid for a complete noob on how to set up the x3 for use with powered monitors, please help sick of using headphones
Awesome vid dude! I got a question.I just bought a pod hd pro 500 and when I plugged it into my sapphire pro 40 with a balanced cable I seem to be hearing a wierd fizz in the distortion in my daw is this because of the stock cab impulses ? I don’t get the fizz when I’m plugged into my 4x12 with a power amp. what do u think could be causing this ?
How do you use the torpedo impulses then without an interface? By switching to software monitoring and adding the impulse loader always seems to introduce latency to me with the HD.
+josefrancisco Well the POD is my interface! I think going through another device will create unnecessary latency. I have no latency problems on my iMac with the Two Notes.
whats the difference between the X3 and HD model on signal path? never had the chance to test the X3, but i'm wondering if i can make a preset freely like on the HD model. ex: in the HD i can make a preset with 8 delays if i want... in the X3 model we can move any fx to any location on the signal path? sorry for this terrible english, i'm just a brazilian trying to express my thoughts
The X3 has less possibilites (I don't think you can make a preset with 8 delays for example), but you can choose the position of your FX block in the signal path!
In the HD, you can place any block anywhere. But in the X3, you can't do so. The position of some blocks, like the Gate, Amp&Cab, Stomp, etc are fixed. You can however place some blocks like the Delay and Reverb before or after the amp. Still, you can't change their order, e.g. place the reverb before the delay.
Jonathan Dureck Manuel Rios yeah man pod farm is not the same as having an actual unit that has hardware and drivers specifically made for sound, if you have an amazing computer with amazing sound card and you download Realtek drivers maybe, but at that point price wise you can easily pick up a used rack unit
Yeah I know, but the signal is crystal clear and not clipping in Logic, so I didn't bother. I could have engaged the PAD button, then it doesn't clip but I'm losing too much gain then.
Hey, I notice that your line 6 is clipping a lot, is this a problem that you struggle to eliminate? Is it really a problem? Will it kill my monitors? I've read so much about clipping and no matter what I do I can't stop it on my Line 6. What are your thoughts?
I never cared about the input clipping on the X3 as turning on the Pad would just kill the power of the incoming signal. The signal is going through a lot of compression within the amp simulation, there's nothing wrong with the outgoing signal!
i got the hd400 and the x3 live, the x3 live its so much better, i dont know why people love the hd series, its so shitty so compressed, the x3 live distortion options are more organic (if you use a IR on your computer its sound so much better or with a mooer radar like me)
dude, a noob question from me, how u connect your pod x3 pro to your Mac? since my pod unrecognized by my macbook. Any specific driver or something? kinda waiting your answer here, gracias
Yeah, it’s should be that easy, cuz my pod x3pro was working fine with windows and detected as a soundcard as usual But since migrating to mac, shit happen 😭
The POD HD series is newer, so it's going to be better at some settings. If you can, try both of them out. Some people don't like the sound of the HD series and instead prefer the X3 series. Personally, I just got a used X3 Live, because I think it's good enough for my current needs, and I got it for a third of the price of a new HD500X. Whether you choose the rack model (Pro) or the floor model (500/500X) completely depends in your usage scenario.
That free packs event/thing was quite the gift from the guys at Line6. All i had to do was make a new account and register my POD again. I think they don't do that anymore, but it's worth a try
then the input stage of x3 pro is shitty.the input stage already has a hard cliped signal.since I USE A variax guitar I am thinking of buying a pod x3 for variax control as well as some amp sim.I may thinking of making a preamp box that boost the signal to a fair enough level and use the pad the tame it....
There is a "CLIP" sign at the arrows, that is the output signal. That is also clipping. I have an x3 Live and I can adjust the input signal so I think its the same with the x3 pro.
It seems that the Information about the Signal Chain is incorrect. As everybody could see, the clipping at the input is active when playing, which means - the guitar signal must be boosted beforehand! Either by an active boost circuit within the guitar or with a booster pedal.
Maybe his pickups are hot. I have the POD X3 Live, and I too find the clip light to be on when I pick really hard (and no, I don't have active pickups). I also use the same setting, and it sounds the same, so can confirm that he's definitely not using any active boost circuit before the X3.
I personally use a Line6 PodX3 (Red Jellybean looking thing) so having you display the individual dial percentages are VERY helpful. Awesome tone, awesome video, thanks, pal!
Jesus christ that sounds awesome
I was gonna sell my x3 live. This video is amazing! Can you please make more videos on groove/ thrash / hardcore metal tones? Thanks in advance and great job!
Great tone, I think John Browne recommends setting the treble to zero. Have you tried that ?
Good afternoon friend, I have doubts when ordering to mount the preset on the x3 pro. What sequence to use until you get to the amp and cabinet. The HD display is less complicated. Then take a video with the most central camera for a front view. Your videos are incredible. TKS 👊.
This is so good!! Thank you so much for this! Just a request, can you please make more metal tones on the x3 pro/ live itself?? Thank you
Muy logrado ese tono ! Espectacular . Gracias por el aporte 🤜🤛
Amazing as always man! Show this to glenn fricker so it pisses him off...you're the reason i got the x3 live instead of the hd500x because of your comparison videos and the fact the x3 comes fully loaded with no expansion packs
"what is this freaking piece of shit?!" haha, I actually dig his videos a lot. He's more the oldschool guy in terms of sound though.
Do you not worry that the unit is clipping?
MORE POD X3 PRO VIDS PLEASE!!!!! Gearbox doesn't work for me at all either so this was perfect, Thanks!!
hey my pod's clip indicator is sort of on and it doesnt go off it seems malfuntioning.
Should i just leave it since it doesnt affect any sound?
Do the drivers work with Catalina?
I’m unsure if I should get something like this or just get the neural Dsp gojira. This has mic inputs, bass amps, piezo simulation and more amps but if gojira sounds significantly better I would go for gojira since I already have an interface.
Really helpful vid, dude; btw, what’s that song at the end?
It's an old demo of mine, must be from 2013 or so, recorded with the X3!

pheeew, hard to say. Maybe try going directly into the computer from the POD via USB? That's how I do it since I don't have an interface.
Interesting. Thanks for the response.
Thanks Heaps, Sounds amazing
Is this model newer/better than the Pro HD X?
This was great! If you can do one of these for the pod hd pro. I’d seriously appreciate it
He already has a video about that.

I'm using POD Farm 2.5 on my PC
I've done everything exactly like you said and it sounds like crap.
Is it because POD Farm is old?
Jonathan Dureck Manuel Rios yeah man pod farm is not the same as having an actual unit that has hardware and drivers specifically made for sound, if you have an amazing computer with amazing sound card and you download Realtek drivers maybe, but at that point price wise you can easily pick up a used rack unit
I hope the Helix will have a “Big Bottom” block one day. I am considering buying an X3 Pod to run into my Helix as a preamp.
I read that the Line 6 Badonk model on the Helix is supposed to be similar to the Big Bottom.
@@rhitosparsha Hence the name Badonk "Badonka donk" aka a big bottom
@@steverishsew3475 I never noticed that. Clever on Line 6's part!
@@rhitosparsha yeah I think the badonk has a little more low mids and is a bit less djenty, so you kinda get a more balanced sound
Sounds great. The red light show the signal is clipping ?
Yeah I know, but the signal is crystal clear and not clipping in Logic, so I didn't bother. I could have engaged the PAD button, then it doesn't clip but I'm losing too much gain then.
Interesting. Looking forward for the next video!

Would you personally recommend the x3 or hd pro x?
How does this compare to the HD500? In the market for one used and on a budget.

will the X3 Pro work with a footswitch such as a Behringer MIDI Foot Controller?
Not sure. You should go for an X3 Live! I used that controller with an HD Pro X but getting an HD500 was a good upgrade.
1:15 and here is the rest of that riff ua-cam.com/video/bWd-h7xJnh4/v-deo.html
Sounds Great - for me a Wery good Setup
dude, a noob question from me,
how u connect your pod x3 pro to your Mac?
since my pod unrecognized by my macbook. Any specific driver or something?
kinda waiting your answer here, gracias
It's possible that you have to install a driver, but if I did, that was ages ago... So it's not showing as an input source in your DAW?
it's simply connected via USB by the way
Yeah, it’s should be that easy, cuz my pod x3pro was working fine with windows and detected as a soundcard as usual
But since migrating to mac, shit happen 😭
Which is really unusal because actually Mac just the best choice when it comes to audio stuff.
no doubt 'bout it.
maybe my usb connection is wornout or a high siera issue.
will try another cable dude. thx anyway !
Can you get this same tone with a Pod HD Pro X?
Zack Warren no I have both and they sound completely different x3 pro vs hd pro x.
I use the pod x3 pro mit imac 27 macOS high Sierra- i have installed only the last Audio driver, Gear is not working. Recording and Play ok. 👌
is the podhd500x good as well? or is this better?
The POD HD series is newer, so it's going to be better at some settings. If you can, try both of them out. Some people don't like the sound of the HD series and instead prefer the X3 series.

Have you tried the Big bottom amp on the HD 500 yet?
I really want to try, but the Amp pack from Line 6 costs 100€...
Actually I got them for free just updating my pod HD 500X and authorise my device. Can't understand how but I got them for free from line6 directly
That free packs event/thing was quite the gift from the guys at Line6. All i had to do was make a new account and register my POD again. I think they don't do that anymore, but it's worth a try
I did this last sunday man :)
+Simon Meunier How did you update it?
Why can't you use workbench
So 8GB of ram on your Mac is plenty for recording and all that jazz?
If I mentioned 8GB somewhere, I'm sorry, my iMac has 16GB RAM!
It's in constant cool mode which is different than distortion
sounds like out of Earth Crisis record
i put the same exact settings and sounds complete different :( my guitar its a black jack atx shecter
Please do it on Helix if it's possible!!!
Maybe over the next weeks a friend will send his one over and I'll do that :)
Really looking forward to your tutorial, thx mate
is your input clipping?that red clip light...
I know but there's no way to adjust the input gain other than using pad which is like -20dB and that's too much reduction for my taste...
the guitar has active pu?
No passive ones with massive output.
then the input stage of x3 pro is shitty.the input stage already has a hard cliped signal.since I USE A variax guitar I am thinking of buying a pod x3 for variax control as well as some amp sim.I may thinking of making a preamp box that boost the signal to a fair enough level and use the pad the tame it....
