Finally someone who’s positive and just shows capabilities of the lens instead of ripping it apart telling you what they think is wrong with it!! Thank you!
I love both the 12-60 and 25 lens. I recently went to my dad's 95 birthday. I took other lenses but ended up using only the 12-60. We were inside, but the room was so well lit with natural light that the photos I took ( I was using the g85.) looked awesome! I do shoot mostly film, but took my 85 to do photos as I was in a cold climate and it is a little more weather proof than my other camera's. 👍 😊
This is what a lens review should be. Thank you. The lens is good, good enough! I apologise to all the camera/lens manufacturers, in saying that in photography, you need basic skill and a photographer's eye and heart. The equipment is only secondary. .
This lens is so awesome for the price for video. I got it with my G85 and could not be happier in good lighting situations. I just spent $3500 for the Sony A7III with a a 24-105mm F/4 constant zoom. The A7iii will be awesome for stills(the reason I bought it) but for video in good light the 12-60 converts to 24-120 and the long end of the lens only loses one more stop than my Sony. For $2500 less than my Sony setup with the G85 and this kit lens for video, It is a no brainer. Looks so great in good light.
The range of the 12-60mm is exactly where I do the majority of my shooting. It's an ideal kit kens. I did do some walking test trying different approaches, a monopod connected to the camera, but not touching the ground proves the best results and works well for the blog shots. It's not perfect, but seems to eliminate all but the worst camera shake without using a gimbal.
that gimbal footage is amazing.... sure makes me wish I was at the beach. I'll be looking at these camera's when I go for an upgrade. Wife already has a cannon though so it will be hard to leave the "cannon family" :) Most of this camera lingo is lost on me... f4.5 etc. I have to look it up every time to remember what it means!
Hey you look and sound like that Aussie bloke called Shane who reviews guitar stuff ;-) I got this lens with my G80 and it’s great for landscape or indoors when you need the wider field of view. Rest of the time I use a 14-140 which I think is the best all rounder.
Wow, 25mm is so much better, I must buy it. Texture on your shirt, pullover and hair on on your neck are more crisp. I bought gh5 with 12-60mm as packet. Thank you.
@@GeekyNerdyTechy I just received mines in the mail late today, all I could do is give it a visual inspection and it looks clean, no dust, I really want to test it with my GH5 and test the handheld stabilization. Great video. I see your kemper unit behind - do you make your music for the site too - very nice and professional. I have a G7 and we are trying to make a video for UA-cam and courses on line and that camera only came with 2 lens and we are trying to get an area that's about four feet away from the camera on the tripod that at that distance would require about 5' x4"(at 4' away) of object in the lens to be filmed. THe lens that came with it are just not providing the range at all...way too close...would this lens do this?
I took my GH5/12-60mm combo out yesterday and did a test, but I didn't get that cinematic film look like your footage. Is your footage straight out your camera, did you do anything in post? Could you please tell me your settings in your GH5? I would be humbled. It's your footage that boosted me up to get this lens. The OIS performed flawlessly, but my footage looked too digital. Great content! Just to make sure, this lens don't allow me to take good portraits right?and that bokeh effect
Hey, great video. I'm deciding between the g85 with the 12-60 kit lense or the g7 with the 25mm 1.7 lense. I film my workouts and some me facing talking. which one would you suggest?
I also do some landscape photography occasionally. I owned a few cameras so I'm not completely new. Currently I'm using the Sony a5100. It has great image but no mic output and it overheats.
The G85 is a much better camera. You get the unlimited recording time and an IBIS (stabilizer) . The Kit lens 12-60 is very good but the 25mm is better for a more cinematic look. The 25mm is also way more limiting. If you're getting into it get the 12-60 to start with.
@@ruleoffitness-20minhomewor36 The G85 is the best choice. Any prime lens will give you really good results but you won't be able to get any wide-angle shots with the 25mm. The 12-60 also has optical stabilization in it so walking and talking it's a great choice.
since you reviewed the 12-60 on a g85, would you get the same results with a gh5? since different pixels on the camera. also since the gh5 has ibis will it perform better with this kit lens?
For video the stabilisation in the GH5 kills the G85. The IS lock and this lens is very stable. It's decent with the G85 as well but it doesn't have IS lock.
My favourite is a Panasonic GH5 it works great handheld as well. The G85 is also a great option but a new version G95 is now out and its probably worth going for the new one. It also works great without a tripod. The GH5 has way more options but it might be overkill if you're new to it. :-)
I have a G85 and this lens and just starting to use it for video. On a bright day, if I want to keep to ISO 200 and 1/60 sec for 30 fps, it seems I'll need a ND filter, probably a variable ND filter. Do you have any suggestions as to a good variable ND filter with little or no colour cast for the lens. Thanks.
URTH makes good quality affordable ND's. I use them a lot. All glass in front of a lens will alter the color slightly but I use these and they are pretty good. Make sure you get the URTH ones instead of the older GOBE versions, as the new ones have hard stops on each side.
It doesn't have very wide apertures so you would be a bit limited in low light. OK if you want to use long exposures or if your camera performs well at high ISO settings, but in general, a lens with a wider maximum aperture would be better for low light and night work.
Hi, I have the G85. I was considering buying the 14mm 2.5, but when I set the kit lens (12-60) to 14, I don’t think it looks as wide as the pancake lens does? Am I crazy?
You'd be perhaps guessing where it's set right? I don't think there's an exact point for 14mm marked on there? I actually just purchased the 15mm f1/7 today so I will do some tests and see how it goes. :-)
Geeky Nerdy Techy yes I am guessing, and wow great, can’t wait for the video! Is the kit lens just a zoom lens then? When I use my 50mm it naturally gives bokeh on some of my subjects but not on my kit when set to 50! I am worried I don’t know how to use it properly
@@cieram8226 The reason the kit lens doesn't give you as much background blur is because of the f/3.5 vs the f/1.7 on the prime/fixed focus lens. The lower the number the more light you are letting in and the easier the background blur is. :-)
@@cieram8226 No problems. If you want a really good affordable prime lens the 25mm f1.7 is awesome. I have two of them. If you need a wider field of view get the 15mm f1.7 if the price isn't too high.

I tested the Lecia 12-60mm f2.8-4 at 16mm vs the Sig 16 f1.4 both at f4 and they are identical. I cant tell the difference! Lecia 12-60mm vs Oly 40-150mm f2.8. At 60mm at f8 and the Lecia destroys the Oly!
