What would my world look like without the Rolling Stones? I don't care to think about that, but I know this song is simply awesome; I hear some "Fool to Cry" in it as well as a spattering of "Worried About You" from Tattoo You. Love it!

Yes you're right there's a bit of Fool To Cry and Worried About You. It's possible parts of songs that they decided not to release and are used in the future. You probably know that Start Me Up was intended to be a regae song.

Why was this left off the new “Goat’s Head Soup” Remaster / Reissue ?!
This song is up there with “Let It Loose” off “Exile On Main Street”...
& they also forgot to add “Through The Lonely Nights” B-Side ...
& also they should have added the Mick Taylor demos / early versions of “Tops” & “Waiting For A Friend” that ended up in finished form on “Tattoo You” ...
Don’t get me wrong the new 4 disc GHS is amazing & elevated to the stratosphere with the addition of “Brussels Affair” but they surely forgot some missing pieces of the story which are pure gold ...

I think that I need to re-examine this LP again. Initially, I wrote it off as a very good collection, with a few classic tracks, surrounded by some memorable recordings but overall a universe beneath the immaculate double album masterpiece that was Exile On Main Street. But after all, Goatshead Soup is the closest collection of songs we have to the era of 1968-72 where The Stones came the closest to musically “walking on water”.

GHS is nowhere near the four albums before it, but it's still a decent album, Angie aside. That's shit to this day. But the rest of the album's great, particularly 'Winter', which somehow sounds winter-esque despite being made in the hot Jamaican sun. And let's face it, GHS is a classic compared to some of the dreck they'd churn out in the 80s. Jagger rapping on 'Too Much Blood'? No thanks. And the lyrics - good lord. 'Ere, has anyone seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? 'Orrible wonnit?' - what the hell? GHS is great.

    Give me a call
    Give me a call
    And I'm a high-stepping
    Go-getting
    Know where I'm heading
    Steady on the road
    Ah, yeah
    Don't wanna be
    Too possessive
    Too agressive
    Sometimes you've got
You've got to stand up tall
    Ain't it hard to find
A guide in this world at all?

    Wilde lover

Great track, had not heard that one before ! looking at the old concert stuff reminded me - One of MJ stage tricks in the mid 70's was to grab hold of a rope and be swung out over the heads of the audience, something like 30 or 40 feet off the ground. This would be during one of the longer numbers when Keith and Ronnie were playing one of their extended guitar duets. Anyone know if that is on here somewhere ? I have tried a few searches already. We saw this done at Earls Court in '76. Quite something, as no-one else was doing it.

@Will Law Scarlet is fucking awesome. I don't know about idiots but you are certainly somewhat deficient in musical taste if you don't think Scarlet is fucking awesome (lol just kidding of course. I know that some songs take a few listens before I like them but Scarlet wasn't one of them maybe it will be for you guys). I like both of them as much as anything from the original album.
I watched interview with Richards after they released the re-release of Exile with extra content and he said that sometimes songs don't make it on album originally because they didn't fit the overall theme or feel of the album or most often because they weren't completed before the others. Some songs they nail quickly and some take more takes and reworkings (they don't like a bit or feel it needs something) than others.

@@vuk96zj I have been following the Stones since I heard "Come On" and " I Wanna Be Your Man". Seen them many times. Not everything they made is golden. Some are stinkers and some are just boring. No rock band has the right to be boring. If this was such a super duper recording it would have been released decades ago.
