6/10 is generous in my opinion. This game was not polished, completed, or coherent enough for the time it spent in development. I love that you are someone who offers grace and understanding in your reviews.i think that sadly HeR will have to do a lot more than the bare minimum to appease ND fans. Well done on the video, love your side rants. Will gladly listen to you deep dive any time!
I remember hearing somewhere (tho admittedly I don't remember where) that it was a technical necessity, the old games were built on a system that was too outdated to keep using and since they had to upgrade they chose to do it this way. They could have definitely made stuff on the new system look similar to the old style and slowly rolled out the impressive new things they wanted to try, but even if they did that they still had to change to a more modern system and that would still have had a lot of the same technical problems since they essentially had to start over. When it comes to the tech side of the game I think its very apt to compare it with stay tuned for danger. They're doing better than the first game made on this system, but still haven't found their groove with it. None of that excuses the writing errors or the poorly thought out puzzles or the poorly done hint system or any of the non technical stuff tho.
@@fourcatsandagarden They could have switched to unity but kept the same art style, movement style and voice actress. They could have used their own in-house teams of workers but chose to offshore to cheap places on different continents. The original Secrets Can Kill was clunky, but it was fun and the rudimentary puzzles made sense. Unity is just a platform. Just cause you change from Microsoft Word to Open Office doesnt mean you have to change your writing style.
The fact that I knew who the culprits as soon as the jewelery thing and when Nancy gets her phone hacked it was a pretty fast ah so its these two which kinda sucks
I was at least invested enough in Salem to want to finish it. The few puzzles there were made sense, the team being together was fun, even though the game was bad, it was better than KEY, which I gave up on and still have no desire to finish.
I started watching you play nancy Drew games before i bought my first one! Would never have continued playing if I couldn't find the answers to some of the puzzles on youtube! Now that I have grown up quite a bit, I come back every 2 or 3 years to play! Crazy they are still making games. I will finish watching this video soon.
On the cylinder puzzle; I think on amateur sleuth it's actually conceptually quite doable. You do know what is on the back side of the cylinder, because you can rotate each piece all the way around, you just have to be able to visualize it which will be more difficult for some than others, and the notches kinda show you where the start point is because you have to match up the first piece with it. I found that quite doable, my frustration with it was the tolerance for moving each piece into *exactly* the right spot. That was my issue with a bunch of puzzles in this game honestly, they are so unwieldy!
I would have also pointed out that Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto were not discovered at the time the vault door puzzle was supposed to have been created. It was also before anyone had seen Saturn's rings.
I was waiting for your review! I love your videos and I couldn't wait to hear what you said about this game 😁 thanks for always being honest and so fun with your videos!!
Still no patch for the latte glitch, but they do have a game save you can download and use to get past it. Then you just have to back out of coffee making whenever you need to use more than a small amount of steamed milk (bc that triggers latte art). And I think the reason the ring in the crown works is that the electric charge moves through the metal, making the whole crown electrified. That doesn't explain why Vladena wasn't shocked the moment she picked it up, however. Did they ever explain how the ring is activated?
30:00 Another option: laptop charger is Leo's or Leo's office has the charger. It's after talking to Elka, and that charger angered me every time Nancy didn't use the thing in front of her.
I was so excited to start this game but I have yet to finish it because of all the cumbersome movement and clues that really don't help, i have lost interest. I wish they would go back to the old format. I hate the bright coloring of the characters. They look too yellow. I have not figured out if there is a way to fix this.
I’m just after leaving the journal. Radek is not outside and I completed the other task. I have physical copy and playing classic mode help me pls i think I’m gonna have to start over

I'd give Salem a 2 and this a 5.
I will never understand why herinteractive went in this direction….for me and many others the Nancy Drew legacy ended with sea of darkness 😢
And we went that whole time seeing all of Nancy's friends but Ned 😔

It might be better than Midnight in Salem, but only superficially. 30 mins in and there’s so many gameplay issues.
I couldn’t even get through 1hr of it….so many issues and glitches for me. I got a refund
Even navigation in this game is a hot mess. 😬 Why did they even have playtesters if they weren’t going to listen to them.

I wanted the 2.5 hour version, and I got it! I love the long reviews

Its here!!!!! I'm so ready! Just finished the game yesterday.
1:36:35 wow Michael you’re really mad at Adela for withholding information from Nancy🤣🤣🤣
was there ANYTHING they fixed after you pointed it out to them? XD bc it seems like a lot was still left in the game regardless
Leo should have been FR. LEO! No one: even non-Catholics- would have called him “Leo”.

My mind is blown that you can finish the game without putting the necklace back together. I had no idea it existed😭
Great review!! You’ve now reviewed every game 😊

I loved the puppet theatre puzzle!!

Yessss!! I’ve been waiting for this too!!
Am I the only one that had an easier job figuring out what to do in this game than in the earlier games?
