Thank you Cathedrals ..those in Heaven and those still here still singing beautiful hymns that bring us into a loving spirit of worship.. may God bless each of you with a wonderful life of peace and happiness ❤️🙏
Oh what a Savior , this song can not, and will never loose it's meaning, and it's power, I THANK YOU LORD Jesus CHRIS FOR YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD THAT YOU SHE'D FOR ME, ON THE CROSS OF CALVARY.
In the 1990's my family would go to the Gaithers/Catherdrals concerts. Ernie would sing this song, and ALL 3 of my kids would sing this song over and over again for weeks!!! What a special time this was for our family. Music has been a big part of our home, and the praise and worship of a Holy God was the center of our family when our kids were growing up.
I only just recently got to know about The Cathedral Quartet. Oh what a blessing they've been and still are. Sad to learn that Glen Payne, George Younce and Roger Bennet are since with the Lord.
I love these guys! Miss them too. I grew up at the Cathedral of Tomorrow in Akron Ohio. Glen and George's children were in my youth group. They are the sweetest people you would ever want to know. Can't wait to hear them singing again in the sweet by and by!
They did one album and this video together, but yes it was a short lived lineup. I believe they were together in this configuration for a little under a year
Thank you. How wonderful it is, to know Jesus. How many mothers realize Mary had to watch what he went through. Hallelujah, I don’t need a building to honor him. He’s embedded in my life. Sing his praises.
Wow I was just 6 years old during this time. I was trying to figure out why I didn’t know who the Cathedrals were. I didn’t listen to gospel music very much until I was in my early 30s. Guess that’s just last year huh. Sounds amazing though!
Ernie is truly one of the best but the message in this song is what thrills me most. Oh what a Savior! If it weren’t for Jesus there would be nothing worth singing about.
I fully agree with Ernie here. ...After going through many , many years , of what I " thought " was a full christian life . GOD , through His awesome mercy , saw not what I was....But what I could be. ...He chiseled so many things out of this poor man's heart , to make room for what He wanted in there. ...And now I too can express the Joy Of The Lord . I used to hear about such joy , and wonder how could that be ! The world is so cruel , people are so malicious ! ...But GOD has love greater than even the vilest spirits you could ever encounter , and will protect your spirit with His , and His joy is very real.... ....The Glory Of The Lord Shall Prevail....
Anybody want a blessing...?! Just give a listen to this...!!! My favorite quartet..and Ernie Haase debut, later to be George Younce's son-in-law and have his own quartet...!! So wonderful...!
Heard them (the original Cathedrals) with Ernie Haas, just like this, 1990 at Dr. James Merritt's First Baptist Snellville GA. I was a two-year, baby Christian at age 39. It was as if these grand old gents were handing over a baton to the lad. This became his 'signature' song as he formed his own quartet (Ernie Haase & Signature Sound). The song itself in Ernie's hands went through several modern 'updates' and I love each one, there is definitely a 'finesse' and 'polish' to these more recent ones...but this 1990 version...ah, I don't know folks, it just stirs up my heart and soul like no other.
The Cathedrals started first in 1963 as a Trio , called , The Cathedral Trio . It consisted of Glenn Payne ( Lead ) , Bobby Clark ( Tenor ) , Danny Koker ( Baritone ) . In 1964 , George Younce joined them { Formerly for the Blue Ridge Quartet } . In 1969 , They decided to be a traveling Quartet , which is when Koker and Clark left to be replaced by , Mack Taunton ( Tenor ) and George Webster ( Baritone & Piano ) . Other members include : ....{ Tenors }--Roger Horne ( 1971-1972 ) / Kurt Young ( 1990 ) / Danny Funderburk ( 1983-1990 ) / Ernie Haase ( 1990-1999 ) / Kirk Talley ( 1979-1983 ) ....{ Baritones }--Roy Tremble ( 1971-1972 ) / Bill Dykes ( 1972-1973 ) / Steve Lee ( 1979-1980 ) / Mark Trammell ( 1980-1990 ) / Scott Fowler ( 1990-1999 ) ....{ Piano }--Lorne Matthews ( 1971-1972 ) / Haskel Cooley ( 1974-1979 ) / Jim Garstang ( 1972-1973 ) / Steve Lee ( 1979-1980 ) / Roger Bennett ( 1979-1986 / 1988-1999 ) / Gerald Wolfe ( 1986-1988 ) / .... { Guitars }--Steve Lee ( Bass Guitar ) / Roger Bennett ( Rhythm Guitar ) / Mark Trammell ( Bass Guitar ) / Scott Fowler ( Bass Guitar )... I think that's about every body , but I may have missed some one , there were so many . But the Inspirations had way more various total members , LoL...
First time i ever the Cathedral quartet was at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pontiac Michigan in the 60s i was a member of the church . i reallly do miss Glen Payne and George Younce but know one thing i will get to see them again. IN HEAVEN
Fantastic!!!!! Thank you from the bottom of my grateful heart that You've given your talent to the Lord!!!! I know you could be singing and making alllllll kinds of $$$ out in the world, but you realize your talent came from the LORD and you're giving it back to the Lord!!!!! Your gift from God is your talent. Your gift to God is giving your talent back to the Lord!!!!! You are blessed!!!!
I never tire of this song and Ernie Haase with the Cathedrals - this has to be one of the greatest vocal performances ever, up there with Claude Gaeter and James Brown at the Appollo
Iwas at this concert. I tried to see them any time they were nearby. My favorites, and I love this song. Roger Bennett was still the piano player. None better. My heart always felt so glad.
Virginia Jones I’m jealous, I am in Australia and I will probably never get to visit the USA again, but my wife and I were driving from New York to DC 10 years ago and we were both too tired to continue driving, so we pulled in at this motel in New Jersey, and as we were checking in I hear this music coming from the conference hall, so I wander over and walk through the door and I see and hear a southern gospel meeting in full blast. Totally something to tick off the bucket list in anyone’s lifetime. It was truly one of the best days of my life.
I was at this concert, as I was at most of the concerts in Nashville, Even went to a couple in Louieville. I loved the Cathedral quartet, they were my favorites, with Roger Bennett at the piano. Sadly they are all gone now. I miss them. But Glad Georges son in law is still holding with the traditions.
Glen, George, and Roger have all passed now, as so many wonderful voices have- the Goodmans, JD Sumner, Tony Greene, Anthony Burger. So much southern gospel gone in favor of contemporary styles. But Ernie continues the legacy, and Mark too. His song called I Needed to Hear that Today is so anointed...i listen over and over. I truly appreciate such music!
I know. I just can’t get as excited about today’s music. I am 66 and I will love my southern gospel music till I go home. Hopefully I can hear it all I want then. 🥰
Thank you Cathedrals ..those in Heaven and those still here still singing beautiful hymns that bring us into a loving spirit of worship.. may God bless each of you with a wonderful life of peace and happiness ❤️🙏
How fun to hear Ernie back in the day!
When I get to heaven I want to sing with the Cathedrals… just me & them… for about a whole year straight… yes, that would be great!!
I'll wait in line and take the next two years with them 🙂
Oh what a Savior , this song can not, and will never loose it's meaning, and it's power, I THANK YOU LORD Jesus CHRIS FOR YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD THAT YOU SHE'D FOR ME,
ON THE CROSS OF CALVARY.
Jesus Is the Savior of the world and I thank God for sending Him....

It’s amazing how he sounds here, and what he’s done to develop his voice to how he sounds today.

I definitely agree, he could be on repeat all day singing that song!
I love Ernie's voice. Refreshing to hear a first tenor with such a smooth voice. Most of them are 'squeaky'

Wow! This lineup was kinda rare for this group for back then.

While I can't physically be in a brick and mortar building this Easter morning, I can be lifted in song. He is Risen!
Oh how sweet Heaven surely sounds, with all the great voices that have gone there!
Chill bumps for sure!
Ernie is truly one of the best but the message in this song is what thrills me most. Oh what a Savior! If it weren’t for Jesus there would be nothing worth singing about.
So well said!

May God bless this young man to continue to spread the Gospel through song. I was so touched that he brought me to tears. What a blessing!
I never tire of this song and Ernie Haase with the Cathedrals - this has to be one of the greatest vocal performances ever, up there with Claude Gaeter and James Brown at the Appollo
Especially comforting for this time in the world!
Brian Free, Ernie Haas, and Johnny Cook. One of the best tenor singers to sing this glorious song
Iwas at this concert. I tried to see them any time they were nearby. My favorites, and I love this song.
Roger Bennett was still the piano player. None better. My heart always felt so glad.
