  • The River Hull is a natural drainage channel which allows surface water and ground water in low-lying areas of East Yorkshire to flow south towards the Humber Estuary.
In December 2023, following a prolonged period of heavy rain, the volume of water exceeded the capacity of the drainage channel. The consequence was that the River Hull burst its banks, flooding extensive areas of land close to the river. In particular, this affected areas close to Wilfholme, Watton, Aike and Arram. The video footage was captured on 10th January 2024 when the flooding was more or less at its peak., from a location on the west bank, close to Wilfholme Landing with Watton Beck and Beverley & Barmston Drain also in view. The water required several weeks to recede to normal levels.
