I really like Mark Cerny. Not only has he made games that were my favorite as a kid, but every time he talks about the PS4, it's obvious he knows what he's doing. He sits straight, talks straight, and backs it. Watching all the conferences at E3 and Gamescom makes you realize there aren't many guys in the industry like him.
I'm both a console(PS3) and PC gamer and I can tell you the better hardware feels very good. I have often not been able to see people past 20-30 meters in Battlefield 3. On PC, with it on high graphics (what the PS4 might be able to achieve), I can see up to about 80-90 meters clearly. Games start to feel much more immersive once game graphics start to go up. I personally would love to see Uncharted 2 and 3 on its highest graphical settings.
Sure I don't expect any revolutionary 4k games on this gen of console but my point was that it is supported and is possible now. And again whenever a new way to view a screen comes out there are people saying its causes strain on your eyes, I think it comes down to getting accustomed to new things and learning your viewing limit, any screen can cause strain if viewed long enough.
I think Knack will be my first PS4 game. Mark Cerny has helped create a developer and consumer friendly machine that I think will become one of the best console of all time. I bought a PS3 for MGS4, and I am buying the PS4 for MGSV admittedly, but I feel I owe Mark this, to make Knack numero uno come launch day. :)
Decent interview. I see he side stepped some questions about what differentiates the consoles and I hope that's only because the still have some features there holding off on showing.
This interview is great and really has me even more excited about getting my hands on my PS4, I luv da fact dat they have listened to da FPS guys and sorted out da very loose design of sony's usual controllers and tightened them up for da PS4... great work! :)
Mark is just great at providing a very casual, level, and enthusiastic discussion about the PS4. He has a great understanding about everything he has done and is doing right now. :)
Aw yeah I realize this completely but nonetheless they are still supporting it, its now up to developers. For now there is still the possibility of certain games optimized for the platform, taking advantage of "the cloud" and running at 30fps being available in 4k.
That was a pretty good interview. I was worried about the look of the controller and how that might feel as far as fps. I'm just wondering who Mark Cerny sent prototype controllers to. I feel better knowing he sent prototypes to the top fps game developers.
Going off what Mark said, which I trust, we have great things to look forward to. I really do thing we will see better physics and other features(mainly through gpgpu usage) in a few years from launch. I am very excited over this. Despite that, I think PCs have a lot to offer this gen of consoles(also at an affordable price) so I'm not sure why anyone would willingly pass that up. My guess is that this gen of consoles, PCs will outclass them with much less effort and time. Keep an eye out.
I like how he admits that initially the games won't touch the true potential of the PS4. We all knew that but it's nice to hear an employee say it. Initial sales aren't important, it's a marathon not a sprint
@Cody Perez , I know what you mean, I enjoy listening to him and I love how he lays everything on the table....nothing to hide and he never dodges a question. Sony is really confident with their system, unlike Microsoft who is hiding behind closed doors.
I'm glad he's got so much faith in the Vita. It may not have the software support at the moment, but it's the first time I've adored a handheld game system that wasn't from Nintendo. Such a high quality device that has the potential (and has) to deliver a slew of great games. I absolutely can't wait to play Minecraft on the go with real, physical controls as well as Borderlands 2. Such a huge win for Sony.
Mark Cerny is awesome. Very few people in the community game industry are as bright as he is. On a side note... She has such a calm and soothing voice he really should look into reading children's books on tape as a side job.
While I can see you not liking the fact you've forked out however much you did for the first model of Vita, the new model has an LCD screen which is inferior to the OLED on the Vita 1000. I bought a Vita a week ago and I love it, 1 gb of storage will store at most 2 ps1 games/some patches etc so it's not a big concern in my opinion. Something to compensate for would be the rising amount of games coming to the platform which is great for everyone. Here's hoping for an inFamous Vita announcement!
This remains to be seen. We need to know more about how developers are going to use cloud computing in the future to lighten the load with things that do not need to be updated every frame. also depends on the game and the frame-rate.
Mark Cerny a decent person & a genius for leading Sony into the right direction. The PS4 design is elegant and sleek I like the symmetric styling also how compact they were able to make it to the first PS3. Also having that PS2 feel about it will make it an exciting generation. Can't wait to see and experience it for myself.
its nothing wrong with it, i think it was a great idea but i just think that a shoulder button accessory will be good if u want to play remote play or fps games on the vita to make it feel better...like your using a controller, you know...its just a thought
It likely could, most of the changes in bf4 from bf3 are done through the engine, more destruction. The visuals are almost identical to bf3 and my 7950 overclocked can almost do constant 60 fps in all cases at ultra
Is there any news on how they are handling backwards compatibility? I have on;y heard some vague stuff about an online service but any news would be appreciated.
Cenry said "use very easily" at the beginning that is a proof they learned from the ps3 that they shouldn't make it difficult for developers to create a game, because it was really difficult for developers to make a game for ps3 due to the Cell processor.
I'm actually a firm believer that graphics do indeed make a game better despite the popular belief that they do not. In fact, I think graphics(among other tech such as AI, physics, animation, sound, etc.) do make a game more "immersive" and do indeed directly affect gameplay. Something as simple as fps can greatly alter the "feel" of the game and give it that boost in immersion. Overall, better graphics can only enhance a game not make it worse.
Sony along with Panasonic, LG, Philips, Hitachi, Samsung, Sharp, Pioneer, and a few others partners own the Blu ray patent. MS doesn't have to acquire it from Sony, they couldve and probably did use one of the other founders.
We will get pretty much every game that is currently on PSN on PS4's PSN as they are the same servers. Gaikai is coming in 2014 but by the time it is you'd just be finishing some of the new AAA+ games.
I'm buying a ps4, but Sony fanboys thumbing down comments like " I think i like the xbox one more IN MY OPINION" is showing a lot about what kind of community they're creating for themselves. You're not even giving people a chance to choose? PS4 or nothing? Great job, Have you guys ever heard of to each their own? Everybody has their own opinion.
The human eye can still spot the pixels at 1080p, I haven't experienced it myself but I've heard reports of 4k being completely unnoticeable. Everytime a new resolution comes out there are people saying we don't need it, but basically you don't know what you're missing until you've experienced it. Explain to me your reasoning behind 4k being bad for gaming.
In 2009 Sony, Panasonic Corp., Pioneer Corp. and Koninklijke Philips NV pooled patents related to Blu-Ray technology in a holding company called One-Blue, LLC. That company oversees Blu-Ray licensing. they all created a company called One-Blue, LLC which oversees Blu-Ray licensing AND most likely all the money made by Blu-Ray goes to that One-Blue company and is distrubuted amongst them all. thats a definite actually, thats how these business transactions work.
Cerny is awesome. Whenever I see him staring at the table while talking about something, I feel like a whole lot of ideas are just being processed in his head.
Having 4k res on a ps4 or xbox one would destroy the playability of a game, due to hardware limitations. But the gen after this I would expect 4k to be supported, not that it is needed. Plus I read that such a huge amount of pixels on a normal tv sized screen (not cinema size) can be straining on the eyes.
out of all the amazing features of the PS4 I think Mark Cerny might be the actual reason I buy a PS4. This man will make this world a better place with his soothing voice!
Honestly knowing that you can pay 400 and get a console that out of the box can play currently 4 announced free to plays and have access to Netflix and the streaming services. Well that's freaking awesome.
i think the glasses changed him. He use to look like a creeper and like hyper but ever since he showed himself with glasses in conference. He is super nice, super chill and lay back.
I'm an Xbox gamer, but my gosh this guy seems really smart. Sony is lucky to have him on their team. I think PS4 will do great in this generation, but I'm still getting Xbox One first :)
BF4 is a far more demanding game then bf3 was. You're adding more water physics, more destructible environments (which means more rendering)...physics have a much greater impact then they did in 3. All of that might be in-engine but it still has a rendering cost
The Dual Shock never bothered me with FPS's before, I'm the type of player that adapts quickly to the hardware than the hardware adapting to me. What bothers me is the lag in controllers, and the XBOX 360 does it a lot with quick button presses that annoys me because it's matter of life and death.
The consoles are 4k Capable. Sony has stated that they are supporting 4k Video and Microsoft are supporting 4k video and gaming. The only expensive part of 4k is the actual 4k res screen.
Why would they FINALLY show BF4 off on PS4 if it was on a dev kit? I like how you agree with me though, I just think the term "super-charged PC" is very dirty. It plays into fanboys dreams and hopes of PS4 being the God of all systems everywhere, Cerny knew this. He should have just continued calling it Unified Memory which is what it actually is.
In all honesty the vita is my favorite system Iv ever owed. with its companion (ps4) its Only gona get better. really looking forward to this next gen. TRULY AN AMAVING TIME TO BE A GAMER.
I think it says something about the viewers when the comments section of a good and infortmative interview is filled with comments questioning one of the participants' sexuality. I suggest you pay attention to the interview instead, because it's actually quite interesting. Just a quick tip.
but what i mean is,,will i be able to play, all the uncharted games and all the ps3 exclusives with the ps4 in the future???? will gaikai allow me to play cross platform games like red dead redemption, or is it just for ps exclusives???? i ask this because i dont have a ps3 and i havent played any of the games i've mentioned, but i want to, i just dont want do buy 2 consoles for that now that the ps4 is here...
So Mark Cerny, what's up with you and long time buddy Yu Suzuki? Red Faction can step aside for Shenmue III, right? I wonder what Remote Play does to the battery of the PlayStation Vita. Bluetooth and WiFi still can suck up a tremendous amount of battery life.
For a company who is our shinning knight against DRM. Your sure spent alot of money developing DRM on the PS vita. Encrypting the memory cards themselves? How will this work on the hard drives one the ps4? How do I sell the used games Ive downloaded to my hard drive from the playstation online store?
Ps4 will go far with all the AAA Devs...Xbone will do just as good but it's all up to their AAA Devs. Almost everything MS has as exclusive , May be timed exclusives..
Mark is definitely the coolest nerd ever!
I feel smarter when I listen to Mark Cerny talk.
Hey bro i was just checking comment section and found you. I follow your almost all videos related to Vita.
I once watched an hour video of Mark Cerny talk about how he evolved from Sony and all it's jobs...
It was glorious.
"Yeah obviously, eh." "obviously." "uhm obviously."
I really like Mark Cerny. Not only has he made games that were my favorite as a kid, but every time he talks about the PS4, it's obvious he knows what he's doing. Im so glad the PS4 seems so open, Id love to see the ability to run Linux on it like the PS3 could at first...The hardware should run very well!
Mark Cerny is awesome. Very few people in the community game industry are as bright as he is. On a side note... She has such a calm and soothing voice he really should look into reading children's books on tape as a side job.

Water physics will be done server-side/cloud as far as I know, infact I think it was mentioned in this particular video
I really Like Mark Cerny, this guy is going to make Sony number 1 by a huge mile.
Great interview, can we get more like this!
Mark Cerny a decent person & a genius for leading Sony into the right direction. this is a very informative interview. I appreciate this vid
Is there any news on how they are handling backwards compatibility? I have on;y heard some vague stuff about an online service but any news would be appreciated.
Mark Cerny, John Carmack and Johan Andersson (DICE) are my favourite personas from the gaming industry. True geniuses.
Interesting questions scott lowe. Good interview.

Okay then thanks but you can pay for the full version if you want to tho ?
Mark Cerny, his voice arg this guy has so much charisma and a total genius.
I love his professional way of essentially saying that the cloud can make a console more powerful is bullshit. What a legend.
I dont think you have to be a fanboy to sony or xbox but hey give mark props respect the guy he knows what he's doing for gamers
Cerny is awesome. Whenever I see him staring at the table while talking about something, I feel like a whole lot of ideas are just being processed in his head.
respect for cerny
Scott, you're a great editor and you asked interesting questions, but please try to be aware of how many times you say "obviously"!
We can only wait until the real numbers are released after november then.
Besides with TGS still ahead, numbers can change a bit.

If they advertise like they did. Remember those PS2 commericals. I always got goosebumps wacthing those..
How much will the eye camera for the ps4 cost?
So awkward how they almost never look at eachother.
out of all the amazing features of the PS4 I think Mark Cerny might be the actual reason I buy a PS4. This man will make this world a better place with his soothing voice!

Everybody loves Mark Cerny!
Ign please ask if a video out feature will be in the future of the psvita!?
Mark Cerny is the kind of person you can listen to hours and hours on end without getting bored
I'm an Xbox gamer, but my gosh this guy seems really smart. Sony is lucky to have him on their team. I think PS4 will do great in this generation, but I'm still getting Xbox One first :)

Does anyone know what game is being played at 9:27?
HE'S ALMOST 50!!!!!! mindblown
I enjoy listening to him. I'm glad he's honest and rather straight-forward compared to other people in this industry.
The Dual Shock never bothered me with FPS's before, I'm the type of player that adapts quickly to the hardware than the hardware adapting to me. What bothers me is the lag in controllers, and the XBOX 360 does it a lot with quick button presses that annoys me because it's matter of life and death.
Okay cheers so will outlast be available on normal psn store ??
Mark cerny seems like a really kool guy. Very polite.
As a fan of Playstation, I'm just hoping we have some killer AAA's soon. I don't want a 400$ Ouya, indiestation 4
You know, i wish they could make a comftorable shoulder button accessory for the vita that can actually work with the PS4 games
The consoles are 4k Capable. Sony has stated that they are supporting 4k Video and Microsoft are supporting 4k video and gaming. The only expensive part of 4k is the actual 4k res screen.
IGN needs to do a PS VITA only interview
I really like hearing this guy speak about anything!
True, And the fact that they even added DRM in the first place.
Mark Cerny is my hero!!
Good interview OBVIOUSLY!!!
In all honesty the vita is my favorite system Iv ever owed. with its companion (ps4) its Only gona get better. really looking forward to this next gen.
TRULY AN AMAVING TIME TO BE A GAMER.
Mark is little serial killish
will sony support external game capture like elgato or Roxio game capture devices
interviewer is overwhelmed by cerny's aura
The only thing Mark Cerny is missing is a lab coat a villanous laugh and rubbing his hands together while he is talking. He is a mad scientist genius
I dont care too much about home but I feel like he should've asked, along with more UI questions & GaiKai in my opinion
I love how Lowe is using the word "competition" as an euphemism for "Microsoft" so as to not somehow insult Cerny.
I think it says something about the viewers when the comments section of a good and infortmative interview is filled with comments questioning one of the participants' sexuality.

My god Mark Cerny should read audiobooks for kids, he's got such a soothing voice
Why am I not seeing videos of chief architect of xbox one just like this?
For a company who is our shinning knight against DRM. Your sure spent alot of money developing DRM on the PS vita. Encrypting the memory cards themselves? How will this work on the hard drives one the ps4? How do I sell the used games Ive downloaded to my hard drive from the playstation online store?
Mark Cernys voice is just wow, so soothing dude
Great questions!!
Everytime I hear him speak, I get more excited for console gaming again
I switched to pc mid 2012
Make me buy one again sony
I really want to
I predict that the PS4 will be as big a the PS2 was back in the day.
His voice, it's just like the wisdom keeps pouring out.
I admire mark i feel honored for playing the ps4 when ever it comes out unlike other ppl he knows what he's doing :-)
Ps4 will go far with all the AAA Devs...Xbone will do just as good but it's all up to their AAA Devs. Almost everything MS has as exclusive , May be timed exclusives..
Imagine how smart we could get if we listened to people equally as smart every day.
They'll only get a measly cut from the Blu-ray foundation. But I guess it's the thought that counts :P
Almost 1 month before Release, Why have we not seen a PS4????? WHY????
Who told this guy to start every question with "obviously"
