Race day! First pigeon race of young bird season from Wakefield, 72 miles.

- This is what we have been waiting for over the last 3 weeks. 24 training tosses and some difficult decisions have got us to this day.

Really enjoyed watching your race ....brought back some great memories......I raced for 37 years.as a fancier living in Northern Ireland and we had some tough racing .....keep up the good work

I will reply individually to all comments, thanks so much for the interest and support. Will get replies done over next 24 hours.
The birds are starting to come round, I just need to make sure they are OK over next day or two before deciding what to do over the next week.
After a race is usually when the dreaded Young Bird Sickness illness kicks in. If it does they will need at least 1 week off. I’m hopeful of another race this week but if they need another week to recover from any issues then so be it.

Those first four trapped like a dream John. Could feel your excitement through my tablet , you hardly stopped smiling through out. All that training and preparation was well worth it just for those moments when they appear from over the roof tops , fold back their wings and drop like stones. Brings back happy memories from when I used to race back in the 70s. And on top of all that my nominated bird ""sonic" returned safely. "Come on girl ", roll on next race. Keep them coming lad.
It was a great morning. I'm afraid the stress looks to have taken its toll though and the birds are not quite right, so may have to give this week a miss.
Awesome hope they all come back. I love to see you so excited. I have been flying for 25 years and I still get excited like the first day I flew.

I'd like to see a few more but I have noticed when birds are fairly lightly fed it becomes much more of a challenge

Well done Jon, over here in Staffordshire moorlands returns haven't been very good,one of my mate sent 30 to Cheltenham which is around 80 miles, only 2 back, something is wrong solar storm WiFi just don't know????

@@racingpigeonworld8879 that’s why I used elderberry at the times I was advised and I never got YBS ever again after 1999, and I got it really bad in 95 and 98,but never again
Good race .what will your strategy be for the next race will you take them training or loft fly
I was hoping to go training as they aren't really flying well round home now they have been trained but they may not race this week as not looking quite right
Good stuff from fury 5th back to the loft hopefully can build on that next week. The returna have been so erratic over the UK an Ireland for the last few weeks its really worrying.

@@racingpigeonworld8879 it has been strange. Over here in Ireland i have heard of fanciers having birds reported from fanciers off the spanish coast. When we were racing from the south of England. Its been so weird recently

Hi mate I'm wanting to start racing how do I get started my grandad had them all he's life but he's not with us now so want to do it for him
down under thunder still does not look too well i would not be sending it just yet
it would have been nice to see the whole lot of the result sheet as a lot if it was covered by the photos

Yes, so I hear. I have 15 out the 22 but that's not as good as many round here. I think a mixture of very lightly fed and first race is the issue
@@racingpigeonworld8879 is just the way it goes with yb's . One of the best flyers I know for years got 3 from 21 so it's just whatever happens on the day ..

Afraid not….I started sending at the start of the year and the love for it just wasn’t there. I’ve had 10 years back in the hobby and no matter how much I try I can’t get the love back for it like I had in the mid 90’s racing with my Grandad. That’s what I want back but as it isn’t coming back I’ve decided to stop.
I totally understand John,I raced with my dad, when he passed,in fact he passed in the loft.i totally lost all interest so I know where you are john.after 30 years the bug come back.i totally understand mate👍

If I could give you a tip - DON''T whistle so much - you need to get your birds used to coming in when you whistle ONCE or TWICE only!

Don't read anything into the first few races . Till ya get over 100 miles+ . When lofts are spread out the wind can play as much as a part in where ya finish as anything else.if they've gotta break for home it can decide if ya first or last. A few Southerly winds will sort them out . Most of them will mess around at the race point anyway and ybs are like sheep. Hope some more rally in 4 ya .... what's happened to Peggy ???
