The first time i went to Sally's and Pepes at like 5 or 6 years old i remember waiting in a super long line for like an hour with my parents to eat at each. That was 20+ years ago, it's have lines before even that.
Excúsmeeeee listen ct boy you heard about New York style pizza now say what ct has nothinnnnnngggg the best pizza is in New York City or maybe you guys have the best pizza but taxes pizza
Exactly. Dave was pretty much the cherry on top. These businesses have been booming for decades now. Dave's reviews of these places essentially just bring in more recognition to people that aren't from the area which isn't a bad thing either.
@stephanfisher if you ever go to Danbury, CT, there is a pizza place called Tuscanero's off I-84 exit 2 that has sesame chicken and broccoli as a topping. If you ask for a little extra sauce, you will likely enjoy it.
You either have a sophisticated palette or you don’t. Portnoy, was enlightened by all the great pizza in and around New Haven. Those lines have been there since the inception of these franchises. Great Apizza in this area, you can keep Brokeasslyn
I live on Wooster Street born and raised and still here and believe me that lines like that every single day Sally and Pepe's Pizza are definitely number one in New haven
The red bacon pie at Sally’s!!!!! Ahhh that’s so good! I love the natural tomato taste in the sauce. Pizza places everywhere else it seams just don’t get it right with the sauce compared to Sally’s And Pepe’s.
I just came from Hawaii, rented a car in California and drove on a cross country roadtrip all the way to New Haven to tell you that Frank Pepe's is the most overhyped pizza I ever had and the clam pizza fucking sucks
@@argonwheatbelly637 And I was just stating a fact that had nothing to do with the video lol.. More of a " Did you know?". And yes there is a line outside Pepe's always which again is a fact that has nothing to do with the video. AKA Just saying.
@@argonwheatbelly637 I don't give a damn about Dave's reviews or scoring because I let my own tastebuds decide what I like and everyone should do the same. "Just saying" aka my opinion. 🤔😉🤣
“Nothing beats a Brooklyn slice”, you mean the most generic slice in all of pizza? Look I’m a Detroit style guy, but even I know that Sally’s, Modern, and Pepe’s are the best of the best.
You can only get new heaven style in Connecticut and mostly just new heaven at that. People try but it’s never the same Why Simple. It’s the oven. It’s like a good frying pan takes literal years for that perfect wair
I had Sally’s and frank Pepe’s was better idk. Frank Pepe tomato sauce has that fresh tomato good tomato taste. The sauce on Sally’s didn’t taste that great. It’s a good sauce don’t get me wrong but for me the pizza didn’t really do it for me. I still prefer nyc slices over New Haven 👀
Sadly, Sally’s quality has dipped ever since they started expanding. Same happened to Frank Pepe’s. Modern Apizza and Zuppardis are the real solid spots now.
I just tried franks and found it average at best. Compared to Regina’s in Boston which is my favorite, it could hold itself against the north end. I got the regular cheese as that’s my go to anytime I try a place for the first time.
I had the Frank Pepe's in Boston just recently fucking phenomenal pizza it's kind of different because it's not really thick and it's not really thin but it's wicked fucking feeling like shockingly only was able to eat like four pieces and they're not huge cuts I'm 6'2 at 260 lb I can usually smash a whole pizza to myself
“Sally’s is a terrific pie… but franks is better… I don’t like their regular pie though.” So Sally’s has a better cheese pie, then? They both look amazing, though.
Dave didn't put Sally's on the map. I grew up with Sally's 30 years ago and there were lines around the block back then. Pepe's is where I go if I can't get into Sally's.
Sallys has had a line out front for the last 30+ years, also sallys has a clams casino pizza as well, its not unique to pepes its an East coast classic.
Almost every pizza I've seen in videos from America look bland or overcooked and often floppy. I'm not saying they taste bad as I've never been there to try them, but they just don't look appetising. Obviously looks mean very little with regards to taste, but other countries normally don't look like these. Is there a reason for this, do they cook them differently or something else ?
Lmao the line isn’t from Dave Portnoy. People have been waiting in line to get New Haven Pizza for 50 years
Exactly Some people are just fucking stupid especially if you’re from New Haven. You know what a good pizza is. 203 baby
100% correct
Yea just for regular people that live hwre wait in line or call ahead to not wait in line
Right and Pepe suck 🤮
Still fuck him for making it worse. My family’s been going for 3 generations and the lines get longer every year
I got news for ya… Portnoy didn’t create that line, Sally’s did. So much bullshit on the internet.
Your right I'm sure business didn't improve with the rating
Amen to that.
True that! Dave would tell you that!
Lol
@@TonydaGMgenuinely I doubt it has much. Everyone in ct already knew and regularly visited haha
Um … there’s always a line at Sally’s , way before Dave lol
Literally
Sally's was making the best ahbeetz long before pave dortnoy.😅

exactly I'm 55 years old and there has been lines there for as long as i can remember
I have no doubt Dave increased their already busy business even more but they were already popular before Dave. Dave was just the cherry on top.

Bro Sally’s is garbage let’s argue
@@BlackGuy-px1onnever tried it but Zuppardi's is the best
The second this guy rated Sally’s under 9 he lost all credibility. And then he put Pepe’s over Sally’s. Dude is delusional
Thwyre all mid lol
That's what I'm saying pepes is trash compared to sallys
So true how about modern
Nah Sally’s all the times I’ve had it has been so bad. Pepe’s on another level imo both New Haven, Mohegan, and Fairfield
@jaffreylopez8153 went to pepes literally this week. Northeasteners think its way better thsn it is its good sure but like its just good lol
Modern Pizza, State Street New Haven, the best pizza hands down😁

The line has been forming daily before Portnoy was alive
People have been waiting in line for Sally’s longer then you have been alive, don’t ever disrespect the New Haven legacy like that again.

You tell em
Who fucking cares lol (I'm not a dave fanboy either you guys are just silly)
I’ve been going to Sally’s for 20 years. There’s always been lines.
Modern pizza in new haven is so bomb try them next when you visit franks pepe and Sally's are excellent too delicious 😋
Dead ass
Yea..forgot about them and ZUPARDIS IN WEST HAVE..DEADLY
Modern pizza in Newhaven is the best hands down. Their line look like a club let out😂😂😂
Everybody has their favorites. My favorite is Sally’s. I do like modern, but I prefer Sally’s.
Modern burns their crusts but lots of people like that...not for me.
Try the clams casino pie at Modern.

Brooklyn pizza??!!! 😂😂😂that’s cute!

It sucks with the new owners. ZUPPARDIS IS the best one

Sally’s, pepe’s, modern, bar, and brick over. They’re all very good!
I live on Wooster Street born and raised and still here and believe me that lines like that every single day Sally and Pepe's Pizza are definitely number one in New haven
Both are good, but one town over, in WEST HAVEN, Zuppardi's has amazing apizza! Clam, sausage, even escarole and beans!! AMAZING APIZZA!!!
They are really good but outrageously expensive. You have to sell your first-born for a clam pie.
The meatball is amazing
Dave Portnoy has people waiting in line? Little David Portnoy hadn't yet been Bar Mitvah'd the first time I waited in line for New Haven apizza.

Can’t agree even more!
My hometown, that’s tourist pizza, the big 3, Sally’s pepes and modern, u gotta try some smaller lesser known spots, they are pretty good
Nica's has a killer pie and really good Sicilian.
Don't name the good small places, i dont want to have to wait 3 hours to get a pizza.

As a person from north haven, I’ve been to New Haven many many times and I gotta say they have the best pizzas I’ve ever had.
I recommend Dalegna. Great pies.
Absolutely I worked there the food is delicious
As a New Haven native, Dave Portnoy has nothing to do with that line 😂
Long long long before Portnoys review Sally's had hour+lines. Sally's is my personal favorite. Never minded waiting because the pizza was so great.
You need to try zuppardis in west haven. Pepes used to be better. But they're a corporate chain now, Zupps is family owned and easily the best
Next time try Modern Pizza! See what you think and yes that line has been there for decades lol at Sally’s.
Pepino's pizza in New britain hits different gotta put them up next
