    Which video would you like to see next as part of this series: 'Tips from the pantry' or 'Tips from the freezer'? What are your favorite tips for stretching the food in your fridge?

    We bought 4 chickens recently = lots of eggs! We normally eat the leftovers but if anything is not worth eating then the chickens hoover them up. I lift the lettuces as well if it's not obviously bigger and always go for the best bang for the buck for set priced items. We get free bread from the local vege co-op that's on its last day that gets frozen, used to supplement the chicken food and helps keep meal costs down. If anything is on special we always buy in bulk if it's going to get eaten. Great tips btw!

      Wow, you guys have some great tips! How many eggs do you usually get per week? I'm so intrigued by the idea of having chickens, but it's not the right stage of life for that right now. We use our 'hoover dog' for anything that lands on the floor - she's a great help and makes sure our messes don't go to waste! 😉 We love throwing our produce ends out in the yard for nature to use up, we've gotten to see some pretty cool wild life.... but that's not surprising when you're in the country. 🙂

      @@BrianaHeartHome Probably around 20 eggs per week which is more than enough. 1 chicken is older (Little Clucky) and stopped laying years ago. We put our vege scraps into our worm farm or into the compost if the chickens don't get to them first :)

      @@ProjectFrugal Woah, that's a lot of eggs! I'm sure you've found some resourceful ways of using up the ones you can't get through. 🍳I hope Little Clucky has warmed up to her new yard mates! 🐔

      @@BrianaHeartHome3 nice orange coloured (NZ spelling!) eggs for lunch. She's getting on fine with them but she is hen pecked! (Poor Little - story of her life). However she's outlived the all 8 of them so far (We've owned 13 in total including Little).

    Better than bouillon is the best! Just be careful before adding any extra salt if you are using it as it is super salty!

    • @BrianaHeartHome
      @BrianaHeartHome  2 місяці тому +1

      Very true; thank you for adding that! I don't usually salt my food until it's been served, but with this, I don't have to add any. I think I've seen reduced sodium options on our store self, too... ?

    Everyone says block cheese is less expensive, but I haven't found that to be the case for about 15ish years now. Rarely it's on sale for roughly $0.10/ pound less, not worth it. Besides, that's using regular price shredded cheese, not stocking up on sale.

      Oh, that's a bummer. My usual grocery store must rotate their sales; I can usually find it discounted fairly often.

      @@BrianaHeartHome same here I just bought 2 pound blocks of cheese today at $5.99 each. I use Mild and I shred it or slice it. I stopped buying shredded as they are now adding a chemical to get it to not "cake" they have probably been doing that for years but I just found out about it so I use a slicer and slice it when I need slices for sandwiches. Store source Kroger's. I buy more than one in fact this weeks sale mandated you buy 2 to get the discount price, normal price is $7.99 for those 2 pound blocks. Anna In Ohio

      @buckeyedav1 I know quite a few people that love shopping at Kroger because of their deals. (I'm an Aldi girl myself.) That's an awesome discount. I'd be stocking up too! 😊

      Regular price for 2lb blocks is $8.99-$9.99, sales run about $7.99. Shredded is regularly $7.99/2lb, but sales make it $5.99 every couple weeks.

    I find bouillon to be very salty and it's hard to find a brand that has low salt

    • @BrianaHeartHome
      @BrianaHeartHome  15 днів тому

      I've seen some bands offer low sodium alternatives to their regular broth, but you're right - you'll probably still find high sodium levels in most bouillon options. I usually don't cook with salt (since it's already included in so much of what we eat), or I'll sometimes thin the broth with extra water.

    If your kids like the grape jelly, there’s no problem with serving them grape. I have to splurge on the seedless strawberry or raspberry jam.

      Thanks for chiming in! I love hearing how other moms manage their homes. That's so funny about seedless jam - I 'splurged' on raspberry jam for a Christmas treat this year, only... I was so sad when it didn't have any seeds!
