    Wow, this video has gotten a lot of strong opinions! 😆 If you have a different process that works for you, definitely keep using it, or share it below! There are several different ways to complete a task and everyone needs to figure out a system that works for them. I'm not suggesting that my way is the most efficient, but it's the process I prefer. 😅 In regards to the length of this video, yes..... I was totally serious when making it, 🤣 it’s important to be able to laugh at yourself! In real life, it probably takes me less than a minute (it takes longer to teach than to show and I'm a detail oriented 🧐 girl). Why did I even make this video? As a creator, there are several skills that I'm trying to learn and improve on, and creating this video gave me an opportunity to practice my skills with a low effort activity. I appreciate all the feedback as I focus on improving my skills with each video! 🙂 ❤

      Don't let it get you down. I'm just happy to see someone from a younger generation being thrifty and reusing items like plastic bags. There are some people who probably never thought to wash, dry and reuse them and your video will help them think to do it and learn to do it. My grandmother was very thrifty because she learned it young from parents who just came out of the depression where you made do with what you had. You are right, everyone who does this will have their own way of doing it. I see this video as one that will be helpful for people who may need to be this thrifty as costs go up. I appreciate your effort to teach others. When I don't find a video helpful, I just move on by. I see no great need to correct, add to, or criticize the work of others. If I think I can do better, then I should make my own video and find out how harsh people are over things like being thrifty. Have a VERY sweet day! Keep building up your home and please, keep making content for those who will benefit from ideas that are new to them and/or are a reminder hint for those of us who benefit from seeing things from a fresh perspective.

    Wow. No way I go to this much trouble to wash plastic bags! I have various ways of washing them....one way is, squirt some liquid soap into the bag, then mush the bag around so that the soap gets everywhere inside, then rinse & invert over something to dry. I don't worry about the outside. If I use a dishcloth , I put some dishsoap on the cloth, drop the cloth into the bag, then, again, mush the bag so the cloth goes all around inside. Then rinse. I commend you for being frugal ! I'm frugal. It's a good idea to be frugal.....

    On your outing, bring a bat and ball and have a little game of family baseball. Or a volleyball for family volleyball. Don’t have to follow the ‘real’ rules of the games, make up your own. Bring some homemade sandwiches and juice/ water and have a family pic nic. There’s lots of things to do at local parks and nature trails that won’t cost tons of money. Or make it a learning adventure, what kind of trees do you see? What kind, and how many, birds do you see. Keep a journal of your adventures, or have each child do that, or keep a scrapbook of it. Just some ideas to make it more fun.

      @@BrianaHeartHome No. I haven’t. I’m 70 and don’t do well sleeping on the ground. I’m raising my 7 y/ o grandson. Maybe he’d like to try that. Most of my suggestions are things we did on family outings when I was a child. Also, less expensive but not free, for a vacation we rented a pop up camper and went camping. One of the nights it rained so hard but we never got even a drop of water in that pop up. Also not free but lower cost is to rent a little cabin at a State Park. Some states have a “passport” program for their State Parks. You get a “passport” from the state and every time you visit a state park you can get your “passport” stamped. The idea is to see if you can collect all the State Park stamps in your passport.

(although I am now retired) BTW, I love that you used the term "contentment. To me that is a better word on what one should strive for.

      @buyerclub2, thank you for your kind words! Those two phrases really sum up this video's message. By the way, I'd love to hear any wisdom you'd like to share! I want to incorporate more of my viewer's into my videos by featuring their questions, stories, and lessons from their own lives. (I've started including a link for questions in the description of all my recent videos, but you or anyone else reading this comment are welcome to use it for non-questions as well; like sharing what you've learned about life and finances.) I have heard of FIRE, and I have several thoughts on the topic - but it's too much to add here... future video perhaps?? Thank you for taking the time to watch and write and hopefully I'll talk with you in the comments again.🙂

    I’m on Spring break at the moment; I have a week off. I am more than happy to stay at home and run some small errands when I want to, just enjoying being in my space…In the meantime, most of my work colleagues are going on expensive vacations, and/or cruises for their break! I will be spending minimal amounts of money while they will probably have credit card bills to pay off for years to come!

      @cherylT321, I know!!! I hope people in that situation are able to cash flow their vacations, but it does make me wonder if they come home and feel even more stressed from a huge financial burden weighing over them. As more of a home-body, I really don't mind a 'stay-cation' vacation. I can sleep in anywhere - and I'll probably get better rest in my own bed. 😆

      We’re moving next week. I bought a house in an area where the economy is less expensive that where we now rent. The house payments will be lower, the utilities lower, food cost lower. It’s also in an area that is safe for walking and has a lot of nature around and nature trails. My money goal is to move as least expensively as I can. I’m older, 70, and there’s no one to help me pack up and move ( except my 7 y/o grandson that I’m raising) so a DIY approach is out of the question, I can’t lift all those boxes and furniture alone. So my goal is to reduce the cost as much as I am able for the move.

      @@sallyprzybil2404 Moving is such a project! I hope it all goes smoothly! Our last move was for that exact reason - wanting to live in a less expensive area. Since I was working a remote job, it was like getting an instant pay raise once we were settled in! Even though we had family and friends available to help, we got to a place that it just made sense to hire movers to help. Not everyone can swing it, but if you can - it took an immense weight off our backs (figuratively and literally). We did all the packing; all they had to do was carry the furniture, boxes, and pack the moving truck. I hope you have a smooth move and I'm so excited for your new adventure! Please let us know how it goes once you're settled in!

      @@BrianaHeartHome yes. I’m hiring movers. And getting rid of some of the older, or no longer useful pieces of furniture. I’m working on packing things up. It’s just me doing the packing so it’s taking me time. I can’t wait to get it done. Last 2 times I moved, over 10 years ago, my son in law and his friend ( who said he had a moving business) moved most of my stuff, and they broke most of the furniture in the move. I’m using a professional moving company this time. I hope nothing gets broken. They had broken a rocking chair my late husband had given me for our first anniversary. I cried so hard when I saw that. There were so many good memories attached to that chair. Lesson learned. Lots of stuff to sort through.

    Growing up my friends would comment how I was rich and I would respond “No, my parents are rich.” I never had any expectation of help from my parents financially- I assumed if I didn’t get a job after college I’d be living under a bridge because I was on my own. Guess it just depends on each person’s mindset! Clothing was definitely a hard adjustment - I was used to shopping for brand new items with my parents and I couldn’t afford it on my own. I can afford it now but still prefer to thrift.

      That's awesome! Did your parents help shape that mindset or do you think it was your own evaluation that helped you recognize that their money and lifestyle would be different once you left their home? By the way, I love that you're still practicing frugal thrift shopping! Sometimes it feels like hunting down treasure, you might dig a lot of holes and not find anything, but it's so rewarding when you find a great piece at an excellent price!

    Another thing no one wants to mention is marrying young. I got married at 21. I had a bridal shower where I registered for practical things I would need for my kitchen and home. Same with the wedding gifts. People used to marry young, and the people around them would help set up their new life with the gifts they received. Weddings weren’t as expensive, but they were also much more basic. When we were married, we bought second hand furniture, cooked at home, and did other things to be frugal so we could save up for a starter home. People who marry young and work their way up end up where your parents are. That’s just the case.

    • @BrianaHeartHome
      @BrianaHeartHome Місяць тому

      @hamwithcheese586, Sounds like we have a lot in common! While marrying young isn't for everyone (some people just aren't ready), I also married young, had a simple back-yard wedding, and registered for gifts I knew we would use. And after a lot of hard work, we considered ourselves blessed to be able to purchase our first home. I think we (as a society), can often take for granted the multiple opportunities available for someone to work their way up if they're interested in making the sacrifices to get there.

      @hamwithcheese586, My mom did an amazing job raising my sibling and myself to be frugal, cook from scratch, and take care of our home. Despite how my mom raise us, I wanted to make the point in this video that we can walk into adulthood with a subconscious expectations of what level our lifestyle should be at. I wanted to share a story that demonstrate that I had (bad) lifestyle expectations. And yes; even though my family experienced and overcame homeliness as a child - I still approached that situation with entitlement. I look back on that moment and cringe, but I think it's important to share my faults because none of us are perfect. And as a society, we're failing the next generation if we aren't intentional with teaching our children these principles. If you're interested in hearing more of my story, this video might be a good one to start with: ua-cam.com/video/e-VymlnJ7e8/v-deo.htmlsi=3QPwD4ejvxi2jK1a I hope you stick around; it sounds like you have a lot of wisdom to share! Just came across your video/channel. This is a topic I've actually been thinking a lot about recently. Its funny because when I was younger (just out of college), I was so excited about being independent (having my job, apartment, paying for stuff), that I had very low expectations (i.e. I accepted that I would be low income for a while, even though I didn't come from a necessarily "low income" upbringing). I sort of enjoyed the thrill of it all and living low income. However, this has become so much tougher as I've gotten older. Now I'm almost 36 yrs old. And the guilt and shame and pressure often fills my brain everyday. Why don't I have a better job? Why can't I save enough to buy a house? Why am I still paying off student loans? How are my peers able to afford a house and kids? It's just a lot of feeling like I can't see to meet these "adulting" expectations and hating myself for "not having my shit together". But, everyone's lives are different. Everyone prioritizes differently. Dreams differently. Makes sacrifices in other areas in order to venture into the unknown of various jobs or living in new places (instead of settling in your home town for the rest of your life... no thank you!). So, yea, it's a tough subject and seems to feel heavier as I age, but I'm also thankful that I made the decisions I made and have done and tried so many things that so many of my peers [who settled early; fear to leave their job for their actual "dream" job; etc] haven't or will never try. There's always good and bad.

      Wow, this was so well said and I can relate to this so much! I'm right there with you - why haven't I made more progress for being at the stage of life I'm in? We judge ourselves by what we're able to visually see compared to our peers, but we don't take into consideration all the unique variables and challenges we've faced that are different from them. (And what challenges are they hiding from everyone else?) We assume they don't have any because we don't know about it and then compare ourselves by an unfair measure. We're currently in a season of life where we're venturing out into something new, and taking a financial hit for it. I have a video coming out in a few weeks that will give more details, but you're not alone in this struggle!

    What you described about giving up or not starting is described by psychologists often. There’s possibly a biological reason why we do this. The name of the theory escapes me. The mind is strange in that we will often convince ourselves to not do something before we even start because it is difficult and you are fine in your current state - even though it’s beneficial in the long term. It’s a sort of cost-benefit analysis that happens subconsciously. Ask someone what they want to do when they retire, for example. Many will say they will relax and take things easy. Their subconscious mind says, well you’re relaxed and taking things easy already. Why make things difficult now? You’ve tried before and failed, so why even start? The same thing happens when you try anything new, like working out, changing your diet, learning an instrument, etc.

    • @BrianaHeartHome
      @BrianaHeartHome Місяць тому

      @cannoncolossus2449, that's very interesting! If you can recall the name of the theory, I'd be curious what it's called. Our subconscious thoughts impact us far more than we realize and it's a large part of the equation that we often don't take into consideration. The retirement topic is one I hope to discuss in the future, I think we have a very backwards cultural philosophy about it.
