At least to me, it's intriguing because they're the last marvels of human engineering still operating. While the buildings have all but collapsed and the cars have stopped running, precious few war machines still roam the globe in a world that no longer needs. In essence, they kind of represent the last vestiges of the power that humanity once had. It's the same with pretty much any military hardware that works in the post-apocalypse such as helicopters, tanks, planes, etc.
"Artyom sees something in Metro 2", I think it is heavily implied in the book that what Artyom saw was the supposed Great Worm that the cult was worshipping, but it's never been revealed what exactly it is, whether it's a literal giant worm, a tunnel digging machine or a train or an underground river or something else. In Metro Awakening the Great Worm is portrayed as a collection of souls hurtling through the metro tunnels, consuming the souls of the living and the dead in its way, adding them to the collection, where they ultimately lose their personality and die, so it could be that.
Interesting, I still haven't got around to playing Awakening. I just assumed the great worm wouldn't be real because the leader of the cult said he made it up.
I also belive that the fact that hansa is a capitalistic society and is the most powerful of them all also suggests that there was some time since the soviet union disappeared
I hope 4A games can expand more on other faction like Emerald City, Kalininskaya Confederation, May Day Republic etc on future project. The world of Metro is so big and full of potential that shouldn't be left out.

Thanks a lot for the video, greetings from Moscow. Another reason why a nuclear war didn`t happen in the 80s is the visual style of the first game and Last Light. There are LCD monitors and modern computers, burned cars on streets reflect models from 90s and 00s, for example Lada 2110 and restyled GAZelle, in the books even mobile phones are mentioned as some piece of plastic rubbish') And generally, the first two games give me very distinctive vibe of Russian 2000s of my childhood, not the Soviet vibe. Great to see you back friend, and another exquisite Metro video, another game I like to think is in the same universe (Along with fallout, Metro and Stalker) is a game called Darkwood set in Poland where an impact event caused an area of the forest to start growing and not cease growing, trapping people inside, becoming such a large thicket that breaking ones way out is impossible and making people feral or mutated alongside those trying to survive.
Thank you for this! Metro (along with everthing back to Roadside Picnic) is probably my strongest superfixation & I am always looking for new deep-dives. Seeing this posted cleared my sched for 35 minutes
It the first and maybe second metro games you can hear characters talk about getting radio transmissions from Saint Petersburg which does not make since because of the radio jammers.
it depends, could be a fault in the jammers or maybe are out of range of the jammers. That tech is from a post-soviet Russia 20 years after a nuclear apocalypse, it might not be 100% reliable. It's just speculation though, could be wrong.
The real explanation is that Dmitry Glukhovsky didn't think up the radio jammers until the third book. The in-universe explanation would have to be that the jammers were set up in the years after the war and the stories of places outside the metro are from years ago. Since then people assume that everyone else has just died out from radiation because Moscow has the deepest Metro in the world as well a missile defence system.

For the whole Soviet and game taking place in the 80s thing just look up a U.S. soldier from 2008 in Iraq and compare their gear with that of a Russian soldier in Georgia that same year they’re still rocking Soviet equipment hammer and sickle is still on their belt
They're still using soviet Era gear and flying soviet flags to this day for their propaganda videos for social media. On the ground they've planted soviet flags as recently as the fall of Bakhmut

Tbh, only a minority of the weapons are Soviet-made. Talking about firearms, the Kalash shown in Last Light and 2033 Redux is an AK-74M which only widely available after 1991, the Exodus model even incorrectly marked as AK-103 (or maybe they rechambered them to 5.45?) which never been a thing until 1994. RPK in Last Light is actually a RPK-74M which also a post-Soviet stuff. Both 2033 and Last Light have the VSK-94 which even have the year in its name. Next is the VKS in Last Light that never produced until 2002. The Saiga-12 in Last Light was produced by Izhevsk in 1997. Bulldog in Exodus are rechambered SVU-A produced in 1994 and Sammy in Sam's Story DLC is AK-12 prototype in 2012. The tanks in game are T-90A which produced in 2004, their also BTR-90 which also a purely Russian design.

To be honest, I know about 2 different books written by Tullio Avoledo taking place in the Metro Universe in Italian: "Le radici del cielo" and "La crociata dei bambini".
The books were absolutely awesome. 2034 was a bit off track as far as including artyom, but the story was still excellent either way. I wouldve liked a better conclusion for hunter, but the beauty of metro is how much is completely unknown. Theres so much you cant explain and it makes it one of the best built worlds ever. Playing the games just brings your imagination into the reality of the metro. Such an awesome world
I'm almost sure that CCCP collapsed in 91, people in the west just tend to unaware how much of soviet symbology remained after Union fell. Imagine that even durign Crimean Operation, Russian forces were still using belts with CCCP insygnia for example. On much of the buildings soviet emblems are stil today present in Russia, no one changed them.
All of them are part of the soundtracks for the Metro games, I can't remember all of them but here's some. The Tower The Hole Premonition Last Train To Yamantau Yamantau Cannibals
Wasnt the Kremlin monster a giant blob bio weapon That had some hypnotic capabilities?(not like the amoeba monsters from the first game) Or maybe im making a confusion ??
@@TheOmegaInitiative I read and played the first 2 games/ books. What is the game version? Hey, just curious when Episode 5 of "What if the Enclave Survied in Fallout 76" will be released. I know they take a while so I'd be fine with a 2025 Quarter 1-4 ETA or a month or two range if you're feeling confident.
There was plans to make a hollywood Metro movie, but Glukhovsky felt it would be too Americanised. Then there's been talk about Russia making one, but that's probably been cancelled considering Glukhovsky is on Russia's hit list.
I always had a theory that the newer mad max movies took place in the same universe. Fury road takes place in a post apocalypse that happened in the 2010s I have absolutely no evidence to back this up its just headcanon
@TheOmegaInitiative well fury road was kinda a half reboot half continuation in a way, but thew newer ones take place post 2010s. Some of the cars are post 1980s and in beyond thunder dome most of the fuel is gone
I liked exodus but it felt empty. It's not like 2033 or last light where you have stuff happening non-stop excluding the few points where you're scavenging or you're in a populated station
25:30 you mean to tell me that book artyom would cheat on ANNA?? has he seen the video game Anna?? Its a fucking miracle we got the noble, hopeful and ever ready to defend his loved ones artyom and not the self loathing nihilist cheats on his wife with an underage prostitute artyom, if the ganes were true to the books we would never have gotten the Masterpiece that is the first 3 games (i havent played awakened yet)
That's pretty shallow. Here's a couple more entries: 1) Anya is not a rea sniper. Given her lack of patience, sneaking skills and general princess peach level of helplessness Miller is just going senile thinking she's got some skills. 2) Everyone is sick. Everyone in this universe is under influence of some biological weapon that severely suppresses people's ability to think and make logical conclusions. Be it bandits who tried to negotiate a grim reaper himself or partisan girl who asked Artyom the Spetznaz Murder Machine not to kill people who are trying to kill him, or poor biggy A's wife who's simply not a sniper even in the slightest. 3) Bullets are working on magic. Considering how many 7,62 hits it takes to kill anything in this world and the fact that Khan mentioned that people blew up both heaven and hell, it is possible that atomic fire has burned out most of world's mana and now bullets that are just conjured up somwhere just don't have that much of potency. (Seriously did the devs ever seen how little it takes to kill an elephant!?) 3) People don't need to breathe. IRL gasmask filyers take hours to ron out, and considering how much people in metro like to shake the air with their vical cords i guess they are breathtaking through some prana or something that they collect by metaphorically pissing into eachother's ears. 4) Metro game devs are afraid of grass. They certainly never touched it and are afraid of even going out. There's just no explanation for draconian requirements for the good endings. LIKE SERIOUSLY I CAN'T KILL SLAVERS NOW!? I CAN'T FREE SLAVES ANYMORE!? AM I GAY OR SOMETHING?!?
That whole bit about warships and subs in a post apocalypse really cought my attention conceptually

Babe wake up new Omega institute dropped
Institute? 💀
1:53 LITHUANIANR REFERENCED 🗣️🗣️
There are translations of the 2033, 2034 and 2035 btw
I know. I own them.
Such an awesome world
I enjoyed 2034 more than 2035 because it didn't feel like it complete right turn in the story telling.
I find that interesting that some of the military ships that survived from each countries become a nomad type of society.🐱
I clicked on this video so fast cant wait to watch !
i will eat up any video about metro bro thank you. best games and books ever
What is next for the Omega channel now?
🤷♂️
@@TheOmegaInitiative Please do cover the lore of Control by Remedy Games
I've been playing the games now and love it so much
What's the list of songs you used in your video?
All of them are part of the soundtracks for the Metro games, I can't remember all of them but here's some.
The Tower
The Hole
Premonition
Last Train To Yamantau
Yamantau Cannibals
YOURE BACK
Simply lovely
I don't care i see metro / stalker lore or info I love. Than you so so much 😊
Why does the music in the first minute sound like 8-mile lol
I don't know what that is, the opening track is Premonition from Metro Exodus.
Wasnt the Kremlin monster a giant blob bio weapon That had some hypnotic capabilities?(not like the amoeba monsters from the first game)
Or maybe im making a confusion ??
The book version is different from the one in game, but the book version is also hinted to exist as well in the game universe.
@@TheOmegaInitiative I read and played the first 2 games/ books.
What is the game version? The part about the ghosts in Last Light mid game or the mentioned bio weapon from some collectible if im not mistaken?
So we have 2 different versions in the game? One that has psychic abilities and the other is just a blob bioweapon from the U.S ?
The creature artyom saw might have been a guerilla that escaped too the metro at some point during the war or something of that nature, like a librarian 🤷🏽♂️ just a thought
I loved these games really loved exodus to this day i tell people its probably one of the best story games ive played. The books are also truely fantastic i still have to finish the last book its been a tought listen ( i struggle to read i get bored so i listened to them on audible) but the last book has been very gruesome in my opinion and it made it a very difficult listen even with how amazing it is
Hope they make more metro games, They are great
Can you please do What if Shady Sands wasn’t nuked?
Van bouren Boulder Dome spotted
Yoooooooo, a video, let's goooooo.
And a Metro one? WOOooooooooooooooooooooooo
Maybe not in english, but most books are translated to Polish (i got nearly all of them)
Where did you find the 2034 art pictures?
goggle image
There's a special edition of 2034 with illustrations in it.
Call me the Titanic cause i cant avoid these icebergs😂
Fallout Idea what if the watoga sabotage failed.
Glory to the red line, true to ceaser
Better dead... than Red.
Wait... there is a 4th game have i missed something?
Vr exclusive Khan origin story.
Awesome, please make vid about Gray Zone Warfare?
That is an interesting idea, but I don’t think he actually play extraction shooter games.
@@sergeantT-90 Ok...
I would dig it but it's going to be quite a bit before anomalies and lore is added (bugs don't count😂)
Never played it
Nice video
Another masterpiece
I love the metro games and I like cold stuff, so YAY
A new video lets go
Why will not anyone take my money for English Metro Universe books???
Many more than enough people will pay for this to make it a good decision
A Lot of Ice for a Nuclear Winter 👌
shitting on modern fallout games is absolutely based
Hey, just curious when Episode 5 of "What if the Enclave Survied in Fallout 76" will be released. I know they take a while so I'd be fine with a 2025 Quarter 1-4 ETA or a month or two range if you're feeling confident.
Literally no idea, sorry
I wanna know why metro aint got a tv series yet though i mean they gave The last of us n fallout one
There was plans to make a hollywood Metro movie, but Glukhovsky felt it would be too Americanised. Then there's been talk about Russia making one, but that's probably been cancelled considering Glukhovsky is on Russia's hit list.
I love Metro
I always had a theory that the newer mad max movies took place in the same universe. Fury road takes place in a post apocalypse that happened in the 2010s
I have absolutely no evidence to back this up its just headcanon
I thought the new ones took place in the same universe as the originals.
@TheOmegaInitiative well fury road was kinda a half reboot half continuation in a way, but thew newer ones take place post 2010s. Some of the cars are post 1980s and in beyond thunder dome most of the fuel is gone
YAY! new omega video
Few of these I wouldn't really agree with people valid for anything, few other things I think could've been put in there
Bump
Enclave pt 5 when?❤
🤷♂️
Can you make a video on what if the NCR won at the end of new vegas
He didn't do it because he believed they didn't have a chance against the legion in their current state without the courier
@Daniel13-jx4nk i know but I think it would be very interesting and cool with all of the new NCR lore from the tv show
Metro Exodus is the best Metro game
Ok 👌
Hell no lol, as a metro game it's pretty meh, and as a competitor to stalker it still sucks in comparison, it suffers from the RDR2 syndrom that's all
No doubt
I like metro last light better than exodus(you can tell by my profile picture)
Yeah, Artyom’s kind of an asshole in the books, it's a lot easier to visualise yourself in the game character than the book version.
YES
YES
@@j.c.denton2060 YES
Romania didnt survive, damn
Metro is not styled by soviet union. That's modern russian mentality
LETS GOOOOOOO
That's pretty shallow. Here's a couple more entries:
1) Anya is not a rea sniper.
(Seriously did the devs ever seen how little it takes to kill an elephant!?)
3) People don't need to breathe.
AM I GAY OR SOMETHING?!?
every theory you presented seems like BS
Sorry
