It's incredibly unfair no one ever mentions Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson. The Bee Gees had their greatest hits and cut their very best songs from 1976-1986, when Barry, Albhy and Karl engineered the Bee Gees sound everyone recognizes and loves now.
On all the demos, it's usually just Barry on guitar and Albhy on electrical piano, like on the Guilty demos, and it's absolutely beautiful.
Albhy was a way better musician than Maurice and he helped Barry to make musically complex and refined songs, and suggest more advanced chord progressions.
I bet Robin and Maurice felt threatened by this magical production team and started to work on Barry to create some sort of rift. And it worked, cause from 1987 on, Maurice was in charge of production and filling all the albums with cheap sounding synthesizers, he couldn't even play well. No surprise, they didn't score a real hit again and sounded awful in comparison on stage, as compared to the Spirits 79 concerts.. cause there was nothing refined about the sound anymore.
Albhy sure was missed and he never gets any mention even.. while he was responsible for nearly 20 gems of albums without a bad note on them.. and so many Number one hits.
I completely agree, most of the magic of Bee Gees record in the late 70s were due to Galuten and Richardson as producers. Once they were gone that magic disappeared as well
Better musician than Maurice? Jajaja
Production plays a big part, but so does talent. Saying that is like saying Michael Jackson would not have dominated the 80's without Quincy Jones. It would have happened regardless.
@@quentindugger5389 Hi Quentin, I partially agree. Once the Karlby production left the Bee Gees I only remember a sequence of "flat" albums that you cannot compare to those produced from 1976 to 1979. IMHO, Best Regards, ciao from Italy
It is incredibly difficult to dispute the role Albhy Galuten played to define the Bee Gees sound we hear during this period of their career. R&B, Miami, and the string arrangements were for foundational elements for these signature voices.
