Speaking of multiple crock-pots. I've been married right at 45 yrs now and I have approximately 4 of different quart capacity and 1 triple slow cooker. I wouldn't get rid of any of them.
Sometimes we have Super Bowl gatherings, Summer Outings, etc. Have had several going at a time. Love my crockpots.

When newly married, I made a chicken noodle dish in my crockpot. I was working nights as a nurse, so I came home and put all the things but the noodles in my big crock pot-chicken, carrots, onions, broth. I fell asleep and woke up around 2 and the house smelled amazing! It looked amazing. Around 5, I pulled out the chicken, diced it up and added it back. I then added the noodles and gave a stir. The noodles disintegrated! It became a gelatinous mess. I started to cry. My sweet husband lifted the lid and said, “I’m sure it will be ok-it smells delicious!” 5 minutes later, he lifted the lid, gave a stir and said, “ I think it’s fine.” 5 minutes after that, he lifted the lid, put it back on and turned off the crockpot and said, “where do you want to go for dinner?” We still laugh about it to this day!

Golden Mushroom soup makes the best beef and noodles. 1 can soup per pound of lean stew meat cubes or chuck roast, 1/2 can water in slow cooker. You can add mushrooms, onions, whatever you like. Cook on low till meat tender and cooked. Break up meat slightly. 1/2 bag noodles per 1 lb of meat. boil, drain, butter and parsley the noodles. Put buttered noodles in meat/soup mixture in the slow cooker. Beef and noodles! I like the Golden Mushroom soup better than cream of mushroom soup for this recipe. Yes! Autumn and winter should be Evaporated Milk Seasons! From soups to casseroles to candies and frostings, evaporated milk takes me October through March.
Yesterday, I made an autumn soup from chicken, sausage, homemade bone broth (from rotisserie chicken bones), and the stuff in my garden (with a little help from Meijer's Produce Dept). I did it the old fashioned way, in my stock pot. It made 30 cups.
But that Ham Broccoli Soup looks like a good one to add to this year's repertoire. Maybe a bit more cheese, because you can never have enough cheese IMO, or 4 ounces of cream cheese.
Good, golden mushroom soup! ❤ It will work. It won't be creamy, but if you want, you can add a little cream, even sour cream.
Rice pudding is SO autumn-winter!!!! Perfect choice. Raisins are great in rice pudding. That looks SSSSSOOO good!
I got a fondue pot for a wedding present, no slow cooker.
What's interesting- there was something utilized during WWII in the UK that used a box big enough to hold a large pot with a lid and straw in it. The stew was heated on the stove to bubbling, then put in the box, covered with the straw and lid, and left to cook off the heat that remained. The straw and lid acted as insulation. I saw it in Wartime Farm.
    Have a great week. 🎉

Absolutely trying the broccoli, ham, and cheese soup when it gets cool enough here. Didn't get a Crock Pot when I married, so had to buy my own. The newer ones definitely cook hotter and faster, so I mostly have to use low.

I got married in 1999. I got one large crockpot and never used it. I gave it to my ex. He loved gadgets. He passed in April, and I am sure that I now have several Instapots, sous vide devices, vacuum bag sealers,
and air fryers stored in my garage. And probably, my first crockpot and bread maker.
I think it's funny how many old recipes use ingredients no one I know ever liked. My family always left out pimientos and green olives, and substituted cream of celery or chicken with just cream of mushroom, and cheddar cheese for Swiss cheese. The assumption being that of course the average home stocked these items! We also never had alcohol in our homes, so that was always ignored, too. I always have evaporated milk, mainly for use in holiday recipes. :)

Hello Anna! Greeting from sunny Camarillo, California! Thank you so much for your channel. It is been great watching you make these delicious, retro recipes over the past few years. You’ve inspired me to buy many of the cookbooks that you cook from, and I have quite the collection building now. I recently came across this book at a local thrift store and snatched it up as it is in near mint condition. On page 59 there’s a recipe called “Border Casserole”. Your habit of always, well, mostly, cutting recipes in half inspired me to make this one in my brand new 2 quart crock pot. This turned out amazing! And would be a great recipe to try from this book. I would highly recommend this, as it is or with a few modifications. For example, I follow the recipe very closely, but served it on top of tater tots, and some shredded cheese with a dollop of sour cream. Great addition, reminds me of a homemade chili. Anyways, my thanks to you. I’ve enjoyed your channel and I’m looking forward to new recipes from more vintage cookbooks. Just not sure my pocketbook to afford all these books lol.

Anna I believe that if you want the ham and broccoli chowder to be creamer, use heavier cream as opposed to the light cream the recipe calls for. Also, you needed to add salt possibly because swiss cheese has a lower sodium content than most other cheese .I am going to try this recipe as written using a heart healthy ham since I generally follow a lower sodium diet and I love soup for the fall and winter months. Thanks for sharing.

Same here. I believe Kroger wants $1.89 for a can, not bad, but last time I tried to find it, I had no luck, was out of stock. I tend to be on the frugal side and do stock regular mushroom soup. I saw on the net that you can make your own substitute golden mushroom, though not sure how it would all mix if used in a crockpot. The first said to simply use regular mushroom soup mixed with a beef bouillon cube, which I'm gonna remember to try. Another homemade idea says to use beef broth, minced mushrooms, a bit of Worcestershire sauce, a bit of paprika, a dollop of sour cream mixed.

I happen to see this very cookbook 2 weeks ago on vacation in Virginia. It was at an antique shop. Wish I had picked it up! I ended up getting, the skillet cookbook by Wesson Oil, 1958. I use my skillet so much lately I figured this would give me new ideas. I want to make that soup you made. Looked very yummy

Yes! I appreciate your comments on time adjustments when using vintage vs. newer crockpots. I would definitely try the spinach noodles dish. I also read cookbooks for fun, and have several next to the living room chair and the bed. 😂 I actually have the Stuffed Spuds book, too, but it's currently living in a box while I figure out cookbook reorganization plans. 😊

I am so happy that you did a video on slow cooking! My crock pot has been sitting in my closet for I’m not sure how long! I remember being really excited to buy it, dreaming about all the great recipes I was going to cook- then it just sat there collecting dust year after year. I decided to hang on to it again , promising that I’d give learning to slow cook another chance. I spent a good part of this weekend skimming through slow cooker recipes. So, when I saw yours, I was really excited! Im definitely going to try all of them, starting with the rice pudding, lol (hubby’s favorite)! I honestly didn’t even think to look for a dessert recipe! I really want to start taking advantage of the extra time slow cooking will give me so I can work on my decluttering project, and smell a good meal cooking while doing it. Thanks again Anna, for another winner this week❤

In the 70s frozen vegetables didn't come in bags. They were package in the small boxes that are still available today. People used canned vegetable and fruit a lot because produce back then was seasonal. Not like today where produce is imported from other countries so fruits and vegetables are available year round.

All good recipes. The rice pudding is a great idea. My family has always made clam chowder with canned milk and it's thinnish. The only thickener is we cut the potatoes into large and small pieces. The small pieces break down and thicken. I really don't like thick chowders that use flour. Love broccoli and cheese anything. Think I'll make this chowder. Hi from cloudy Oregon.

With shrinkflation, a small can in 1975 was prolly bigger than a small can now. That's why I like Europeen recipes -- they typically measure by weight. 100 grams in 1975 is the same as 100 grams now.

FYI: America's Test Kitchen has the best slow cooker recipes. I would suggest filtering these older recipes through their guidelines. They have a hack for pasta, from their website: "How do you prevent soggy pasta? Toast it in the microwave. It’s that simple! Microwave 1 pound of pasta with 1 tablespoon of oil in a bowl at 50 percent power, stirring occasionally, until your pasta begins to look toasted and blistered, 5 to 8 minutes. Toasting allows the pasta proteins to set, which prevents excessive swelling. Which prevents mushy slow cooked pasta goop. Note: Only a portion will look toasted and blistered. Don’t have a microwave? You can also toast your noodles right in your slow cooker before adding the rest of your ingredients." Another alternative is to use those frozen pastas (tortellini / ravioli) pasta cook time will need to be determined.
