When you search for a review of a TriplePlay, this video should be at the top of the list. Best review. Best examples. Best demonstration. Plus he plays guitar Very Well. That really tests the tracking and lag time. Impressive device.
One year later, still enjoying the FTP. I have found that the software will record the MIDI notes themselves. This will allow you to see and edit everything about the performance. The tempo can be sped up, the velocities can be fine tuned, the sustain can be adjusted accurately, and the performance retains the feel. Plus you can still route the channel to outboard gear. I have found this method to be failsafe. When you want to track some synth sounds, recording MIDI data is the reliable way to get perfect results on the first try.
Truly one of the best tutorials I’ve seen regarding the tripleplay. Would like to see more regarding fingerstyle guitar and making tablature notation compositions. But I am very impressed with the areas that play and talk about polyphonic-multi-string issues. Would like to run into more tutorials that deal with using the tripleplay and acoustic guitar! Can’t wait for my tripleplay to be shipped to me! Thanks SO much for taking the time in making such an informative video !
Excellence in video production, but implementation videos exist from Tripleplay here concerning mounting. Their website has numerous FAQ. It does come with software as well. I route to outboard reverbs and those sound amazing with the TP. It does work on Windows 10, 64bit. You can drop tune the 6th string to D and it recognizes the D. You can tune down 1/2 step and it recognizes the drop tune. You can add Omnisphere and it works seamlessly. You can add Keyscape and that is where some of the most brilliant sounds come from, in my humble opinion. The included GuitarRig software is a demo package, so I don't use it. I plug in my guitar and run a traditional recording setup with mics and mic pre's, and can switch between, blend, etc. I have experienced latency, but I unloaded the plugin, reloaded the plugin, and then the latency disappeared. I use FL Studio with EZdrummer 2, the MIDI input channels needed to be made unique for both Fishman plugin, and EZD plugin because it can sometimes trigger drums. All of that aside, this is the most fun I have had with my guitar since Eventide effects. Its a whole new world of sounds, and if you get really good software synths, you can go back in time 20, 50, or 100 years and create sounds long since forgotten. Keyscape is incredible with FTP.
This system is a monster! I run my normal tone through a Utopia to my 50W stack and then the Triple Play (wireless to a computer) through a 400W PA. WOW. The pads are awesome. And, I can control my mix all onboard the guitar. The Fishman software has too much latency on my system so I just assign sounds thru the Studio 1 software as a midi controller.
I assume that in the fishman app settings, if you alter the audio settings and change the audio driver to any ASIO driver, you should be able to use the app in the standalone mode. I don't have the software, just a guess...
I bought the Boss SY-300 which is a completely different beast. It's excellent except for processing the high E string especially above the 5th fret. Low sounds are no issue at all.
Thank you Tom for this video on the Triple Play. Even though this video is 7 seven years old, it still the best video available covering many important details about the Fishman Triple Play controller. Tom's amazing guitar playing and detailed explanations really help. He nailed it when describing the difficulty installing the software for the unit. They don't make it easy! I've got the standalone version working fine but still unable to hear any sound with the VST plugin in Reaper? Very frustrating. I'm able to record and play back sounds but no sound while playing? The patches for the library system hard to understand so far. Not sure where all the libraries are stored on the hard drive. It's not as smooth as they preach. We really miss your great hair Tom! Excellent work.
Wow, what a wonderful review. I wish I had seen this before I purchased my TriplePlay Package. It wouldn't have changed my mind but it would have been nice to know about all the software that came with it. Thank goodness I have unlimited downloads, there was a ton of software to download, just as you said, but what you didn't mention was the pain in the rear to load it all. It took forever and you really had to load all the associated programs prior to loading the TriplePlay program. But I'm happy it's finally loaded, it does work well and it's a ton of fun to play with! More importantly, thank you for taking the time for your review, it was really great!
To get the most out of it, and this is just my opinion, you would need the TriplePlay Wireless and the guitar wired. Then it would be just like your guitar at a regular gig. Play what you want to play...there are a bunch of stomp boxes you can use or just use your regular board. You then set up the TriplePlay wirelessly for cool sounds and backgrounds or you can set up TriplePlay to be two or three sounds AND use your guitar like a regular guitar at the same time. Hope you can understand my ramble... It just takes some time to learn how to use all of the software if you want to get the most out of it. If you just want to play some cool backgrounds, that is simple and doesn't take much time at all. Hope this helps... Please any mistakes, this was done on my iPad in some STRONG SUNLIGHT... (and sweat)
Thanks for the confirmation! I'm watching his fingerings and listening to the notes and I was coming to the same conclusion, but what? C and F? Never heard of that tuning before. Straight fourths. Huh. Now I'm wondering if I can even work up this progression following something like his fingerings using regular tuning. Guess I'll find out.
Great review Tom! Just be careful of what you display in your tutorials. The version of Sylenth 1 is licensed to TEAM ArCADE which is a well known cracked plug in. Wouldn't want you to get busted for doing such a great demo
Hi Tom. Is this the best guitar synth solution or is the GR55 better or as good? With the Triple Play, can you control it via a footpedal? I'd like to mainly play with the guitar pickups in to my guitar amp but bringing in synth sounds during songs where necessary. I also wondered about using my Roland GT100 (as I currently do) for guitar sounds but also sending midi info from the GT100 to the Fishman to change the patch / sound. Thanks for the video - great explanations :)
Tom, I absolutely love all your videos. I just got the triple play. I have a few questions. How would I use it for a live on stage performance? do I need the laptop? Can I run it through my guitar amp? What are the connections? Are there any other options for live performance? thanks so much
I've had a LOT of grief with pairing the TriplePlay controller to the usb-dongle receiver that plugs in to the usb port of my iMac. I have a lot of passion for trying to learn to play midi through the TriplePlay from the Fishman controller on my acoustic guitar. And you need a lot of passion to get you through the rough times of not being able to pair the Fishman Controller to the Receiver in the usb port of my 27 inch iMack then having it work with GP7 . I don't think Tom defined the issue of how to connect with the controller and the receiver ! It is important to press the tiny red light on the controller and make it blink fast at start, then press the receiver button until you see it is a constant red light. To me the real frustration happens when you want to work with a midi editor like Guitar Pro 7.5 :( Thats when the FRUSTRATION begins. Not everybody mind you, but I feel sorry for those that don't have too much experience like me . Just when I thought I paired the two items to perfections, then the midi editor Guitar Pro 7.5 refuses to play the notes correctly, or you get stutters with the midi sound. My main goal is to write out and compose my compositions while playing fingerstyle from my Fishman Controller that I attached on my acoustical guitar and going into GP 7. I want so much to get this objective done that I went and bought and downloaded GP7 thinking that GP7 would be much better than GP 6. I was told that I get no tech help because GP6 is outdated. Now that I bought GP7 I am waiting day after day for the tech help, thinking I could qet quick help, I'm left waiting and waiting but no reply. I sincerely hope there will be a great pairing of the TPLay midi controller and GP7 and the midi on my guitar. It is not for the faint of heart believe me :(
The software doesn't 'ship with the uni't'. It has to be downloaded taking several hours, involving third party registration, linking up to keyboards etc detc. this is not polug and play but nightmareville! ive spent 10 hours today installing hardware and some software and still trying to get a single sound out of the computer even though the test signal works.
Unlike the gr55 I dont see any info if this midi comes with guitar simulators ex fender marshall amp sounds. All I see midi synth tones could you give more tone info not just piano or clarinet does it have more guitar tones and are they adjust distortion gain presence ?
I am interested in this devise for it's remote capability but I have no interest in computer interface using softsynths. I have 2 high-end keyboards (Korg Kronos and Korg M3) and would like to use this unit with these. Is this unit compatible with this sort of arrangement?
Hi, I have a question for you, with what strings is one of the best to play of midi converter,I use Roland GK3 GR20 and sound module GEM Genesys XP,my strings are 8-38 thickness.Does it matter the thickness of the strings for lateness sounds, converter is set perfectly, but still slight delay of 5 and 6 string
Can the Triple Play patches itself be used as a MIDI instrument with in my DAW? Say I don't want to use any outside software, can I use the tripple play patches alone as a VST instrument within Cubase?
I was wondering about how well it tracked alternate tunings too. I had axon mkII, many years back, and wound up getting rid of it do mostly to the fact i wanted to go wireless, plus it was a little tricky to get it to track in A standard. It could do it, but had some difficulty tracking the whole range of 24 frets on the A string. What is the range this thing is capable as far as low tunings go. I would also like to know if it does tab with numbers (1-24 frets).
Good video Tom. Unfortunately the unit I bought is terrible and their service is not set up for fixing problems with people with jobs on the West Coast. A simple scale plays random notes. Forget about chords. They told me it needs to be in "Mono" mode. OK, then why did they create the other mode? Glad you got a good one I wonder if Jennifer Batten went through multiple units before she found one that would work with her amazing chops.
Would really love a clear easy to follow, instruction on how to get split with vst's like massive, I've had mine a year and set it up with guitar wing and ableton and even a FCB 1010.. But still not sussed setting different channels for strings.. ggggrrr
This is the only video that (at 7:41) actually decribes in basic language whast the computer interface does. But you speak too fast for a total beginner such as myself who is not familiar with the jargon.

Had high hopes as well, to keep it simple for the basic sounds, ima trying using a MIDI plus device. I understand all you do is plug the dongle in to the MIDIplus and connect your audio out to your speakers.
Very appreciated your work I have a question for you plz hope you can help me,can i use the triple play as an wireless system?i have line6 pedal and need to activated threw the triple play wireless to play without jack on thr effects if the line6 is there a way?

There is also a wired version available, TriplePlay Connect that can plug directly into an Apple Lightning port or USB.

10:47 can someone just clarify this for me please, would greatly appreciate it. So basically I go purchase the TriplePlay hardware and Kontakt 5 WILL BE included in the software, no extra payment needed? True or False?

how would you be able to output the sounds onto a PA or a speaker while playing in a live setting from the triple play? Aren't sounds coming out of the mac.
I have one question that none of these reviews answers, nor any online information I found from fishman or anybody, it is this: Can you route individual strings to separate midi channels into different software, for instance mac osx interapplication midi, i.e. how do all these features work with other software that is not included?
At ua-cam.com/video/bs9fBAsg6kM/v-deo.htmlm10s, he does at least mention that it can track each string as a separate MIDI channel; but it's not clear to me yet whether the Fishman software permits forwarding those channels separately outside the software to other software.
Yes, exactly. I can't find any video or anything that seems to answer that question fully, so that I'm certain. I will make a purchase today if I find that it does. Otherwise I have no use for it.
I contacted fishman and asked about this and they said you could, very easily in mac, but also in windows using something called hardware mode. So I made a purchase.
+Hardik Raval yes ofcourse. the guitar is not important. i have alot of guitars, some ibanez prestige among them and i use a begginer squier for the fishman :)
I realize that you posted this many months ago, but the TriplePlay wireless built-in rechargeable battery will work for many years, and can be replaced. Hope this helps someone.
@@stringsnare basically those chords are so colourful you can often just throw in random chromaticism. Play anything as you sometimes give the ear something to latch on to. Do you know your jazz 251? Learn the minor ones first.
It can use nearly any VST plugin, and some VST plugins allow you to import your own samples. I develop software for Fishman, and I'm interested to know more about your intended use case. I might be able to provide more help.
Great till you try to download the Native Instruments then you get sent round in circles trying to sign in when your already signed in, then you try and another da and hey I have to re set my password again. I didn't know that re setting my password over and over again was a feature of the package and not being able to get hold of the so called Native Instruments that were offered free as part of the package.
I can't make it work; (anybody knows about a good tutorial step by step for installation ,because all show the sounds , more or less ,but nobody did a good tutorial
This thing is no better than the Gtr synth I had back in 1990 ...wrong notes triggered, bad tracking and too much latency . Save your money ...until someone decides to build the SynthAxe again these hex pickup synths are crap . The SnythAxe from the 80's was light years ahead of this thing ...search youtube for Allan Holdsworth and others playing the SynthAxe. Tom Quayle is a superb player so nothing against him ...
It's worthless it sounds cheap unuseable, it has been done right long before in the 80's!For Christ Sake why do they keep coming up with such unexpressive silly latency shit even in 2016?

This is one of the best reviews i've ever seen for a product and you guitar playing is simply stunning. Thanks for this video!
Tracking also depends on how close the hex pickup is to the strings. I own one and love it.. works well with sample tank on my iPad ..its brilliant

Good playing ! I noticed Tom's tuning is different, the open B is tuned to a C and the high E to an F. So it's all 4th's :)

How easy is it to connect and use this with GarageBand? Also how long is that cable on the device itself?

I am trying to find more examples of reaction on bending strings.

I'm sold! Must have one!

Can I use the Fishman Triple play on The Chapman Stick Railboard Grand ??
hi! fishman triple play functions also with buttonbeats music programs?and how ?thank u
Good video Tom. Unfortunately the unit I bought is terrible and their service is not set up for fixing problems with people with jobs on the West Coast. A simple scale plays random notes. This is the only video that (at 7:41) actually decribes in basic language whast the computer interface does. But you speak too fast for a total beginner such as myself who is not familiar with the jargon.
what's the best equivalent to this for 2022?
Hey Tom. Fab review and demo. Thank you and greetings from Down Under. B. :)
I bought the TriplePlay along with the FC-1 floor controller almost 3 years ago. I got the pickup working perfectly but had trouble getting all the sounds. Fishman was absolutely no help and their videos were a joke so I gave up. It's the end of 2023 and I'm trying to give it another chance!
Had high hopes as well, to keep it simple for the basic sounds, ima trying using a MIDI plus device. I understand all you do is plug the dongle in to the MIDIplus and connect your audio out to your speakers.
What if I tune in Eb? Would the Fishman still pick up my flat tuning?
I'm more used to pc than mac,can you suggest which window platform would be best to run this program? thank you.
Very appreciated your work I have a question for you plz hope you can help me,can i use the triple play as an wireless system?i have line6 pedal and need to activated threw the triple play wireless to play without jack on thr effects if the line6 is there a way?
And making guitar strumming in midi files, it is possible??
Would love to see a video using this with stand alone synths.
Thank you for this video. Can you tell me whether I can use the TriplePlay Wireless MIDI also with iPhone (not iPad)? I'd expect it to run with any Bluetooth MIDI compatible device, so it should work with iPhone too, right?

One thing you dont need a very expensive guitar with this set up to make it sound good
My tripleplay wireless ,stop transmitting after like 5 minutes ,I have to close the window and restart to get running again ,not sure what going on
10:47 can someone just clarify this for me please, would greatly appreciate it. So basically I go purchase the TriplePlay hardware and Kontakt 5 WILL BE included in the software, no extra payment needed? True or False?
True

Excellent review
how would you be able to output the sounds onto a PA or a speaker while playing in a live setting from the triple play? Aren't sounds coming out of the mac.
Yes, you have to plug your Mac into the PA.
Great demo Tom. How does this compare with You Rock Guitar 2?
atrothe used both.....both r latent.....but yrg is best for tap....jam origins is worth checking no pickup needed

I use an Ibanez GSA 60 electric guitar which is for the beginners. Would I get the same results as this video? Someone kindly suggest...
Thank you
+Hardik Raval yes ofcourse. the guitar is not important. i have alot of guitars, some ibanez prestige among them and i use a begginer squier for the fishman :)
Thats a relief... Thanks Mario
Hello, may I use the TriplePlay for my classical guitar with a pickup?
No, it’s for electric only.
Amp modeling features
I wonder how long is the battery life. Most of these gadgets with built in battery that you cant replace die after a year of heavy use.
I realize that you posted this many months ago, but the TriplePlay wireless built-in rechargeable battery will work for many years, and can be replaced. Hope this helps someone.
nice work! Thanks
beautiful chords, are these jazz modulations?
They are extended chords. Used in jazz yes. Minor 11 etc.
@@deldia Is it you playing
I know the chords but the progressions were lovely
@@stringsnare basically those chords are so colourful you can often just throw in random chromaticism. Play anything as you sometimes give the ear something to latch on to. Do you know your jazz 251? Learn the minor ones first.
Great review
Can you import your own sound samples?
It can use nearly any VST plugin, and some VST plugins allow you to import your own samples. I develop software for Fishman, and I'm interested to know more about your intended use case. I might be able to provide more help.
demonstrate some strumming also.
Give me a cracked version of this Fishman to go with your cracked sofwares, you rich, rich people :)
Catrina Daimon Lee Parasite.
+Catrina Daimon Lee I already have the cracked version :-)
Is it compatible with the cubase program?
yes
Excellent
Nice cracked version of sylenth, dude
Poppenboom0909 can you get cracked sw not only on windows but also for os?
more volume please !
beautiful chords in the beginning..
Will it work with a 7-string?
Currently there is only a six string pickup.
why is he frettin chords and not playing them?
I can't make it work; (anybody knows about a good tutorial step by step for installation ,because all show the sounds , more or less ,but nobody did a good tutorial
This thing is no better than the Gtr synth I had back in 1990 ...wrong notes triggered, bad tracking and too much latency . Save your money ...until someone decides to build the SynthAxe again these hex pickup synths are crap . The SnythAxe from the 80's was light years ahead of this thing ...search youtube for Allan Holdsworth and others playing the SynthAxe. Tom Quayle is a superb player so nothing against him ...
i wouldnt buy this , the roland gr -55 is a superior device, i sold the triple play and invested in a gr55, tracking is much better.
Iphone charger? What the hell u talking about?
The worst unit I ever had. Software is crap. And there are problems with tracking!
To much fucking talk, please play more and speak less
Oh, no, it's a good review, seriously
Great hardware, atrociously bad software. Luckily, as hideous looking and bad the UI is, at lest it works well.
+Steven Woolgar do you know if you can use ableton or logic as the software?
It's worthless it sounds cheap unuseable, it has been done right long before in the 80's!For Christ Sake why do they keep coming up with such unexpressive silly latency shit even in 2016?
Psychonaut
It's more the software, if you got some better software to go with this hardware it would be killer.
Psychonaut funny how nothing has surpassed the synth axe
got bad latency here, i'm using logic x, is it compatiblity problem?
Drop your buffers down in options until you get a crackling. Then bump it up by one setting and you will have minimal latency.
