WIDER Superyachts captured the imagination of the yacht buying public with their sleek designs and diesel electric power systems. Recently the shipyard has gone through a turbulent patch though, so I am delighted to report that they now have new ownership, new management, and a strong sense of direction.

I love Wider and it makes me work harder on my software company because I want one yesterday! I'm surprised the 180 doesn't have a helipad but it's not an excessive drawback. Some of us want to use this as a mobile weekend getaway and holiday home so embarking from port will be natural. Thank you for your awesome videos.🙋🏿♂️

@@khufu8699 I think only 1 150, not sure, I would think that's why the company was bought out, hopefully with new money greater success. The new yachts, I notice, are faster and with more range.
@@steveSmith-pd4st Wow. That is surprise. A lot to love about the direction they are taking. Electric will certainly grow much bigger in this space. Maybe buyers too fearful it was too big of a jump. Or maybe something wrong here we are not seeing or hearing about. I hope they make it as I like their direction.

I think diesel powered turbine generators will be the future in these hybrid-electric yachts. Almost just as efficient (more efficient than piston generators if you use the excess heat!), much cleaner, much less maintenance, smaller, lighter and quieter. They are already in use in heavy trucks, but have only recently become certificed to be used on yachts.
Thank you David! I've been quite vocal about Wider and wondering what is going on and why you haven't shot this video yet. Now it makes sense. Such a great brand with beautiful design and really thought out technology and such thought into the multipurpose use of areas really speaks to my German engineering side :)

I really like the WIDER yachts. I think they are going to knock a bunch of other makers off their posts and make others design better yachts as well. Good show and keep these videos up.
So far few buyers.....interesting yachts though, but they have built 2 ships since 2015, with only 1 sold

Great designs and like the hybrid power system. One critique is that for 180 feet of length, you only get 4 guest cabins? For that length I believe there should be a minimum of 6 guest cabins.
That is technology at its very best very impressive range on both yachts, another brilliant video loved watching it.

Amazing vessel. Love the idea of electric motors. Just need hydroponic wall gardens for sustain able independence. Create a smaller footprint on the planet. I would love to live onboard forever. What a magical dream to come true. My aged mother with dementia would spend her days fishing!!!! :-)

Ever since I stumbled upon your channel during one of my all-consuming daydreaming days and saw the Wider 150, the Wider brand has been my "if I was rich, I would.."-pick.
The 165 again blew my mind.
But as I look at the 180...? It seems odd. It doesn't quite crush my world and leave me like dust in the wind, like the 150 and 165 did.
But the 135, though! That literally SCREAMS Wider! I love it! I want it!

Nice video David, I find the information and 'sales pitch' you give for your videos is very informative, thank you.
However, I like to mix this with a little critique from other channels, which gives me an accurate 'vision' of the yacht in question.
For this specific yacht, I'm impressed with the Eco friendliness of the electric/battery operation and the range of the vessel.
Wider is underrated .... same as Ocean Alexander ... David can you have a look at the Ocean Alexander 90R? The design is somewhat bulky in the front yet very expansive in foot print ....would appreciate this.

very sorry to hear about the troubles at wider i did like the past owners very much he seemed to be a great person to work with and for i do like the design of the wider 150 and 165 i hope wider can make it out of the current siituation and the future is bright for them
Keep in mind that he original owners sold to a Chinese owner/company, and this marks the third change in hands. I hate to sound racist but they are not known for their quality, there are a few Chinese yacht building companies, and their out of country buyers tend to sell them in a year or so of purchase.
One thing that I’m curious about with the Wider 180 is, how come it doesn’t have a helipad, even though the smaller 165 does?
I always thought the helipad was a brilliant feature and a real tick box for the yacht; I am surprised they decided to shelve it.

Those Wider yachts are beautiful and I love how you're able to drive your tender up in the aft of the boat and be stored in the garage. These boats are nicer than most I've seen plus having silent running is a huge plus for me. But if I had one, I'd modify it to run on my electric motor design where it can run full time on free energy power that is safe an fuel free. I get so mad because we have been lied to about electric power an them saying you can not get free power when Yes We Can and I Have Built IT Over 14 years ago. My electric bill dropped overnight and the power company I had back then came to my house to find out what I did to no longer have those high power bills I once had since I moved in. I showed them what changes I made an my new design. Three electrical engineers that come out to my home and they tested it, I told them how I built it, they tested it again and all three said, we see it running an it is making 240 volts ac but we by all we know still even after seeing it running with our own eyes have to say it should not be able to do this because you destroyed everything we were taught in college because you destroyed the basic laws of physics by making something from nothing. They took video of my design with it stopped, I turned it on and got it to full power in seconds and they were looking at as children's eyes look at the presents under a Christmas tree on Christmas morning with excitement at what they are seeing, or when new parents see their baby for the first time. I will say this, I did not invent this design by no means because we have had this design for over 100 plus years. An It is time we start using it now and no longer be forced to use fuels that we don't need to buy at the high cost of the price oil companies are forcing us to pay. Including in our own vehicles, I'm planning on getting a EV to install my motor and remove the batteries because they are not needed. It's time we start thinking for ourselves and no longer allow them or anyone to treat us like their children or they will take away all our toys if we say no we are thinking for ourselves now. Soon I'll be posting this design for everyone else to see an make their own power plant in their own homes and in their boats. They can install electric drive motors an use my design to power it. It would be cool to videos of a similar format in the future, but directed towards the naval architects and designers who create these yachts. I want to learn more about the process designers take when designing a yacht from basic sketching to 3D rendering. It would be cool to see what programs they use to 3D model and create renderings like the ones of the pool in the video!
The Wider yachts were absolutely one of the most original yachts I'd ever seen, BUT the managements and ownership changed? What?! How does that work? Do a clip on that if you like: what happens when a yacht maker changes of ownership when you are in the process of waiting for your yacht of them?
I think no one was waiting for their new Wider yacht, so in this case no problem. But it's a situation that occurs regularly. Must worry a buyer I think....

Wider 165 from 2018 costs 30 million euros at Northop & Johnson, or if you buy it through Arcon yachts, it will cost you 25.9 million euros.....

From all that talk I expect them to be working on integrating solar panels into the mix. Solar can run the systems during the day and reduce noise/fuel consumption. At anchor it might be possible to run everything on solar. Places for solar, over the bridge, on the fore deck cover and on the garage door.
Wider should build a 79 foot version of this, that can be owner operated. Hybrid boats are rare, and a smaller version would have wider appeal.

I absolutely love your channel & learning about yachts, their designs, machinery etc., I have been following this channel for a long time now . A few question for you, if you could answer them would be highly appreciated.
1) Why don't you disclose the prices of yachts in your channel. Those of us who have an interest would love to know it. Specially the new ones off the yard or even the ones that come up for sale.
2) How come you don't do any full walk through videos like some of the others. (Nick & Alex for eg.)

Being a Merchant Chief Engineer, if I were wealthy enough to build a yacht this big, I would certainly want to meet MCA requirements for crew. Maybe they could hire proper STCW crew then, because I wouldn't work on most yachts.
They could also change over to use thorium reactors. One company is now making cars with them and they'll run for one hundred years.
I'd like to have it all with my option!
What price range is the wider 180 in?
My understanding of what was going wrong with Wider was the creators of these yachts didn't know what they were doing. From the "saltwater pool" that no one ever said they would like to have on a yacht to putting the weight of all those diesel generators in the bow of the boat, which is a bad thing. People like to think they are creative geniuses, but there is a reason certain things are done a certain way and it's not because everyone else is an idiot.
yeah, once i buy this one, i'm opting out on the hot tub/pool, never understood why anyone would want a pool on a boat surrounded by water you can just dive in, that's wasted space in my opinion that you could use for dining and leisure, who wants to walk around a noisy hot tub on a balcony floor?
I'm real curious how they route the exhaust out there front of everything. Underwater exhaust exits that far forward will cavitate/fart severely anytime they hit a wave. Out the side and everyone is breathing the fumes standing on the sides of the boat. Running the exhaust through the hull aftwards gotta spread the noise.
@@sloth6765 not really, these are heavy boats, these things are designed to remain completely flat no matter the high tide for indoor comfort, it's why they move slow, these aren't speedboats, they're marine studio apartments

sorry, i need a minimum if 22-24 knots. 12 knots cruising speed is ok, but... a bit slow. i really would like to ask if water jet engines can't work on electric ?
Not sure if i regret watching your videos since like last year but yes, a reason why im working on my business so hard is to buy a Wider yacht one day, now the problem is that i want to buy a Wider yacht one day. These things are so expensive, i barely know anybody bu employees, i have a mother, a sister, both have their own “families” but I wouldn’t invite them they don’t deserve it and most of them saw me like im nothing. Im very materialistic and love to own things and have a reason to own everything i have but an expense like a yacht makes almost no sense but i cannot see myself without one. 😫🔫 first world problems.

The Wider 135 or 150 looks like one of the best buys. You get near super yacht size but can still dock in a majority of Marina's. Those 250' and above yachts can only look in envy at other boats docking up to shore. Unless your middle Eastern royalty or a Russian oligarch who don't want to mix with non billionaires, it would seem a bit lonely parking offshore and motoring into most harbors.
I think Wider Yacht with Jet Engine and Water Ski is most identical.
No helipad on the 180? :(

I love it with 4 jet engine and a small boat with convertible glass top with drone engine and a submarine with drone engine. Electric drone jet engine is recommendable with electric engine small boat and submarine. Just like Tesla Seastar,electric engine have pretty low manufacture cost. Whatever with electric engine is very competitive with other engine. I think electric engine should have highest demand for the low maintenance cost with much much higher performance. There is no doubt. As you know 200,000 dollar Tesla Seatar take 1.9 second from 0 to 60mph. But 2,5 million dollar Bugatti Chiron take 2.5 second from 0 to 60 mph. I think the small boat and the small submarine with my option could make semi supersonic speed in the air.
Going to have to start calling these “Hyper Yachets”.Looks like Wider took a page from what Porsche did with the 918 spyder.
The Previous Owner was also the past innovator at Pershing ???? Wonder what happened....

Wider makes interesting yachts, but for some reason they are slow sellers. Perhaps potential buyers hesitate because of the complexity of a Wider, or the unproven technology, or the inexperienced yard?

Богдан Кондратов To me they just look like long shoes, but I'm sure plenty of people disagree. My favorite yacht is Andromada and I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't like how she looks. I'm just glad that there's some variety even when they aren't something I personally like. So many yachts look the same. For instance, I don't like red hulls, but if I see one, I think, it's nice to see something other than white for a change even if it's not what I personally like.
