  • In this video, you can tag along for some really fun adventure runs and learn more about where I’m finding success with fueling and where I am experiencing some short comings- not only with nutrition, but also with rest and recovery.
    Either way, thank you for watching- I really hope you enjoyed this video because I had so much fun editing it and putting it together.
    We are less than 3 weeks out from my longest race ever- the Never Summer 100K! I also have quite a few rad adventures coming up this summer so consider subscribing so you don’t miss ‘em :)
    *Please be advised that I am experienced with mountain adventures and have spent many hours learning how to navigate mountains and what safe decisions in the mountains look like for me. Additionally, this video does not serve a nutritional advice or guidance, but rather as a documentation of my own successes and shortcomings of fueling my endurance efforts, as well as for entertainment purposes.*

    Very informative covers key points of Sleep and nutrition. In addition reminds me of Kim Takeshima Newberry look alike.

    i'm always looking for fueling tips/advice. My fueling for equivalent distances is not far off. One interesting tidbit i came across from Simon the 100miler a month French guy from LA channel was that if you're trailing running with trekking poles in your hands for extended stretches, your fueling is likely to drop off since your hands will be occupied. Something to keep in mind for races.

      This is the primary reason I don’t like poles. Using poles is great but my nutrition and hydration take a big hit. For most of what I have done, the trade off is not worth it. Anything that makes it harder to fuel is a problem to be solved

    Last weekend I was supposed to do back to back 3hr runs. I slept very bad Friday night and that made my Saturday run pretty hard. In addition, it was in hot and very humid weather (to the point that my shoes got 100% soaked by my own sweat - yum!). I slept very bad again Saturday night and I decided to skip Sunday's run as a result. I hate skipping runs, but I figured I needed to listen to my body - I woke up feeling empty, flat, and completely zoned out. There is such a big difference in how I feel between even okay sleep and poor sleep - I just feel like a different person.

      The humidity makes training so tough so power to you. And I think it’s so easy to mentally beat ourselves up when we don’t hit training marks but I think if you’re intentional about missing a run (ie to rest and sleep) then you’re doing exactly what you need to!! I’m so stoked you were able to get some rest in and then a good run!!

    Setting a fuel alert on my watch every 30 mins was the best thing i ever did for ultra fueling. It often goes off and i think WTF, didn't i eat like 2 mins ago??? Especially when deep in a race/overnight and just zombie running- really was eye-opening! Make sure i take half a bar or a gel every time it goes off, plus tailwind, plus eating real food at aid stations...the more the better! This has also massively improved my recovery after events. GL!🤘

      @@paulalmond8242 such a great idea!! I had previously tried that (then I had to do a factory reset on my watch so I lost the alert) but I’m 100% going to get that going again. Thank you for the advice!!

    I have a problem with fueling while running also. The last long run I did was 14 miles last week and all I had was 1 gel, water/electrolyte mix but I made it! Your trail training runs are inspiring. I am training to run a 50 miler...on a paved trail. Again great video! Keep 'em coming.

    I ran in that area this last weekend too! I shared a "Arapahoe Traverse" video on my channel too. Such a neat area and one that I hope to return to and run more of soon!

    I really love seeing you vlog more in between runs! You had me cracking up with the clip of you just saying “performance puree.” Lol your race is getting so close! Mine will be next year. Still deciding on where but I’m so jealous you live in the mountains to train! I’m in Florida so it’s a bit more challenging to simulate proper training. Good luck with your last 4 weeks of your training block!

    Performance Puree aka PP! Might give it a shot after this upcoming race. I think ill need a more robust vest to house more bottles... Any regrets on black vest with CO sun?

    • @MountainHighLife
      @MountainHighLife  Місяць тому

      Definitely try it and let me know!! At times I regret the black vest, but mainly in the heat if I’m on the front range, otherwise I don’t think it’s too bad!

    Are you getting 500ml water and 80-100g of carbs per hour? Making sure I hit those marks has made a HUGE difference in feeling as good at mile 28 as I did at mile 8.

    Aren’t there grizzlies out there or snakes and stuff. How do you mentally cope with that kind of fear at the back of your mind.

    • @MountainHighLife
      @MountainHighLife  Місяць тому +5

      No grizzlies! Definitely snakes, moose and mountain lions (which I fear all 3 equally). I’ll be honest- it can be very easy to get in your head about it, but I always try to make my presence known frequently to avoid an accidental/unexpected encounters.

      I was thinking the same question, I also go the trails, usually around 4.30am, but gosh I love running so much I don't care, when I watch the sunrise and hear the birds singing, all fears are gone.
