Correct. Back then Olić was coming off a very hot season in the Croatian national league where he was the top scorer and won the league title with NK Zagreb, ending the decade long streak of only two teams that had the stranglehold over the trophy - Dinamo Zagreb and Hajduk Split.

Agree, thats why Ive always said it took Pirlo to arrive into the Italy side for them to be able to win a world cup. The Italy teams of the 90s and early 00s had world class defenders and strikers but other than maybe Gianini, Albertini and Fiore, they lacked a midfielder of real quality linking defence to attack and who carried a consistency for them. Pirlo was world class by 06 and place him with an enforcer like Gattuso, De Rossi etc he was able to roam and create attacking transition moves from defence to attack. Whilst Italy in 06 had plenty of great experienced players, it was Pirlo who was the real reason Italy were able to go as far as they did and win that world cup in 06. His vision, passing, crosses, set players were key to many of Italy's successful attacks.
