I met my husband on WebTV! It was in the 2000s. I lived in a rural area, so its what I had to work with! But man I feel old AF now! My head would explode from sheer frustration if I tried using anything this slow now! 😹😹😹
Thanks for posting this. My first time on the internet was with our webtv we bought. We had the original Magnavox then the Magnavox "plus" version after that. It was a magical experience then getting on the net for the first time and on a tv in your living room. Will never forget it. To cure my nostalgia craving I even bought a new unused Webtv remote on ebay and keep it next to my other modern ones as a joke. Ya I'm weird ha.
I was about 31 in 96 when I got my we btv after a week I was hooked on the internet i got so many people on it if told them this is going to be big . but soon I got a computer .back then they internet was the wild wild west .downloading music from napster
That loading bar was the biggest tease I'd ever met. There was nothing more satisfying than finally seeing that screen flash black to your homepage. Thanks for the memory blast!
Look for matt man he has it. Sadly all I have is the newer MSN TV2 which is not compatible. I had the WebTV Classic back in 1997-2002 found the newer unit at a yard sale this year still in original box.
@@DL30Creations I think you can install a minimal linux or something with the MSNTV2 hardware which I think was based on FreeBSD originally. I could be mistaken. No emulator/private servers for MSNTV2. But you should be able to, especially with USB modem/DreamPI trick, to connect any Sony/Phillips/Samsung/RCA WebTV, WebTV Plus, or RCA MSNTV (not 2) to an emulated experience now. However, the public stuff is just a fake webtv home page with a few other pages I think. Twent
Amazing - this tune takes me down nostalgia lane to when the internet was just in "infancy." Now, I can imagine listening to it while taking a road trip with some city looming in the distance... Thank so much for sharing! Blessings! - John 11:25-26
Oh how I loved my webtv. I really miss it. It was a great way for an older guy to prepare for getting that first computer. I had several web pages back then that I made with the help of my webtv. Thanks for posting!
I fondly remember sneaking downstairs when I was 4 and hiding so I could listen to the BGM of the WebTV as my mom was browsing the web at 11 pm. There was one specific one that used windchimes as the main instrument, and our Magnavox unit made it sound very different from the ones I have found on the internet. *sighs* oh well.
That instrumental...😢 I miss these days, food n snacks was normal, ppl was normal being themselves, no one try be so independent due to social media, grandparents were grandparents, it was safe to go outside at night, Hawaiian punch tasted good, and life conversations was exciting...Yelp this instrumental made me think of the old life from that time...smh
I was able to finally remember this thanks to my uncle using this service with his computer when I was a toddler! That black box logo and the loading screen along with the name were the only things I needed to remember!
I never used this, but had the faintest memory of this loading screen from when I was very young, and day dreaming about living in a big city while watching it.
I got webtv in 99 to keep in touch with a girlfriend, remember this sign on, but around this time it changed to butterflies and stuff like that because they were switching over to the MSNTV. I loved webtv...I learned more on that little box then I did in school!!
Oh my gosh... I remember seeing/hearing this at my friend's house (or at least the first 20-30 seconds of it) when I was really young (about 3 or 4). Amazing how this got recommended to me like 10 or 11 years after I first heard it, heh...
There was a WebTV piano song that played in the background during browsing that I have desperately trying to find for ages. Anyone know where I can find that piece?
Well, unless we could try getting WebTV (msnTV) to work on WebTV Viewer using the Custom server and with the Custom DreamPi can work with the real WebTV.
Emulating / logging onto a webtv with actual hardware today, really does take you back to 1996-2000 era for those of us who great up a few years on webtv.
and then after 5 minutes waiting to connect; it would all die as someone picked up the phone line. LOL. Quickly made the discovery a second line needed to be installed.
Legend, say that they’re still trying to dial toll free and also I’m a kid and I just got interested in that because you know I came across permission pretty interesting
My first time getting scammed on the internet came from one of these.... Had my mom get me Pokemon cards from ebay on her webtv and the guy sent fake Japanese cards. eBay did nothing about it :(
I must have watched this at least 100 times. I don’t know if I miss the Webtv this much or just the past. It was magical logging on to this.
I was just thinking the same thing, its everything as a whole the music, the memories. I had a blast on that.
You're not alone. Something about most of went music where actual effort was spent making it seem like a futuristic/potential experience.
Bliss!
Good times 😎👍
I miss these days... sheesh
For anyone curious, the composer of this theme was Brian Salter. He did lots of tracks for WebTV along with Thomas Dolby, the founder of Beatnik.
Legend has it they still haven't arrived in the city to see the wizard.
must be galaxy or star system sized city buildings.
I'm 15 years old again after watching this video. Magical
Ah the memories of hearing this music as I wait to look up Mortal Kombat 2 fatalities.
Good times, brother. Goooooooooood times.
I remember looking up Star Fox 64 humor sites.
I changed mine in settings so I would hear the dialup modem sound instead of the music. I loved webtv so much, it changed my life.
My first experience with the internet, late 1997 / early 1998. Great times.

your cat photo tells me everything lol 😹
Never in my entire life have i heard a better connecting song
Honestly tempted to use it as a waiting screen when I stream with friends

and as of a couple months ago, you can now connect your webtv to an emulator and experience some of the old screens. even the music.
REALLY?! I still have a Sony WebTV Classic and Philips WebTV Plus box! I need to go look for this!

Truly magical times.
I remember if the music went on too long, that meant you're outta luck. You ain't connecting.
12 year old me again with my family's first Internet device.
I think I was 9 or 10 when we first got webtv. I just remember being the only 4th grader who knew basic HTML.
I was 11 going on 12 when I got this, too. Had it for 2 years from 1998 to 2000.
I never used this, but had the faintest memory of this loading screen from when I was very young, and day dreaming about living in a big city while watching it.
As a very young kid, like 5-6, my grandparents had this and I thought it was the COOLEST shit at the time. Cool memories.

Ahhhhhhh... the magic ride into Internet city... In which it took forever to get there...
I wish they had made it so the view would get closer to the city as it went through each step (dialing, answering, waiting to connect, connecting)
@@ProtoV33MK1 that would take up too much space
remember, these boxes often only had 8 MB of storage (hell, sometimes even 2 MB)
That music makes me nostalgic. WebTV was my introduction to the internet.
First thing I ever looked up in the search? "Super Mario RPG."
Web TV is so cool

Definitely wasnt born yet(2004) but came from MichaelMJD and this is seriously a BOP🎉
The best of all the WebTV songs, by far.
NOPE! Cozy was the best.. no contest.
I used to take mine to hotels and connect to the room phone. As long as it did not hang up, it was a dirt cheap local call.
well im a proud owner of one now..junk store find i cant wait to hopelly get it back to a computer to see what it compares to at the time!
The legend hasn't arrived at the city
Nostalgia overload.
Sony Plus used the connecting music with a better midi synth than phillips i guess
Because it has a better soundfont
I miss WebTV! This Reminds me of the “Alias” theme song.
1996 was when they came out with this lol the evolution of technology
Oooooohhhhh the chat room memories this brings back!!!

I was listening to Levitating (Kuu Remix) by Dua Lipa and I swear on my life it sounds like this was used a sample lol

I allowed mine to disconnect if another call came in, but some complained they had to let it ring long before it disconnected.
oof this is so classic
Yo this shit slapped
I was the only one I knew with webtv....
I ordered 5 webtvs to my God brothers house as a prank. And 20 webTV remotes. My goal is to get to 20z
