Adam Jensen's Deus Ex has been great, its a tragedy what happened to and after Mankind Divided. The game was solid, finished it today. The world was amazing, but delivery of main plot was lacking hard.
"Budget Malcolm X" is probably one of the funniest pieces of writing I've encountered in the _Deus Ex_ series. Also, as for your point about how refreshing it was to see attractive-looking females in a game and suggesting that Square Enix is to credit, I don't think so. _Human Revolution_ had maybe five females at most who weren't off-putting, especially with all the weird hairstyles they had going on, haha.
I got back into Deus Ex Mankind Divided recently and had some spare pocket money to get the season pass. System Rift, I thought it was ok. A Criminal Past, I really thought this was real good. Personally, with Mankind Divided, I’d love to see more of Adam Jensen’s future adventures. It’s a better game than CyberPunk 2077 (as of this moment).
I have no idea if the writer for HR and MD is even working for Eidos atm. She's keeping very much to herself ever since they got pulled from Deus Ex... And the lead artist, Johnathan Jacques Belletette? He no longer works there. And Michael McCann last worked on Borderlands 3's soundtrack (surprisingly, I was shocked when I heard some familiar sound...) But even when Deus Ex does return, it will be just that little bit different... I hope it lives up to what Eidos did.
The DLC with Pritchard should have been included into the main game. As for A Criminal Past, it is the most interesting and challenging "mission" in the whole game.
I didn't know what I was getting into with this one, and it was the last thing for me to do in the game. I was disappointed we didn't get a chapter like Rifleman Bank (without augs and inventory). Then I start playing this and fall in love.

A Criminal Past gave me some serious Escape From Butcher Bay vibes. As you said in the video, not enough games use prisons as a setting for their story.
Mankind Divided hit so many highs, including almost perfecting a number of mechanics central to immersive sims: incredibly detailed and interconnected hubs that encourage (but don't require) exploration, multiple potential approaches to problems/obstacles, a good hacking mechanic (but also a way of circumventing if you're not in the mood), good/very good dialogue system (apart from a few strange interactions with "sellers" for some reason), good stealth and combat, high production values, incredible sound design (including a great sound track), and great environmental storytelling that, if you pay attention closely, fills in a lot of blanks that a casual playthrough would leave uncovered, but still leaves just enough unknowns to keep you wondering what "really" happened . Palisade Bank, and Criminal Past (and to a lesser extent System Rift) probably stand as some of the best examples of what you can do with this genre. The character development and overall story arc of Mankind Divided were not up to the standard set by the original JC Denton Deus Ex or Human Revolution, which was disappointing, but I suspect was more a high-level publisher/commercial decision rather than the fault of the developers. All in all, the series is just crying out for further development. I had hoped Cyberpunk 2077 might have scratched the Deus Ex itch somewhat, but CD Project Red probably spent too long focusing on trying to create a next-gen open world, rather than focus on smaller more detailed levels to push their story forward. Here's to hoping that Square Enix see some sense and bring this series back with even further refinements to the immersive sim genre.

Through all the dlc, all I found are around 20 rounds of stun ammo, 10 tranq darts and a small handful of gas grenades; which obviously aren’t enough to knock everyone in the prison out. It forced me to count my shot and not tase anyone I see like the base game, and always reminds me of how much easier it is if I just grab a gun and kill everyone. I liked it because Jensen lets you decide how to "spin a yarn" to the bad agent in front of you! I mean you get to use those experimental augs? You still can answer something different about the agent you tried to rescue even if it's not true? Just before Jensen finally decides to let the power slip right trough her fingers? Awesome!

Given the prevailing theory of Adam Jensen being a clone with implanted memories, maybe this scenario was manufactured and the interview is to test these memories and Jensen's response to them.
I just wish unlocking your augs had more varied options and consequences in Criminal Past. Avoided the pill and the modded biocell because I thought there was some sort of after effect, but it turned out to be nothing. I just wish there was a sidequest to get a technician to remove your limiter chip, if you opted to go without activating your augs in the beginning so it would feel like you've actually worked your way up to turning your augs back on.

Never bought the DLC's since the micro-store was shut down and Montreal was put in the mines. but playing the surprising prequels of Deus Ex universe made me appreciate why game companies try their best to create legacies with and for the OG Deus Ex. I have been waiting for Christmas time to play these DLC. I don't know, but the time feels like the coziest time to say goodbye to the franchise. Hoping to see your video soon.
Eduardo……I’m the same! I always save most games I really want to play throughout the year for November/ December time when it’s cold outside and I have all my Christmas lights twinkling away. Resident Evil Village was so cosy to play during Christmas last year. I just melted into my blanket with snacks and warmth whilst trudging through snow and fighting monsters ☺️
can you believe that? I got this DLC 8 years ago as part of the bundled game, as much as I have enjoyed the main game and first 3 DLCs I never played this one. I finally finished it days ago and man it was packed!!! the size of the map is huge!!! Totaly worth replaying again and again.

Shame they couldn't incorporate that yellow hoodie guy (Ivan Berk) into the game better. Could've worked well as a boss fight at the end of the GARM mission. Imagine something like this: Encounter #1 - cameo right before the bombing Encounter #2 - in the middle of the Golem City mission. He gets harassed by some cops and you can choose to help him. Desperate Measures - as a main story quest during the 2nd visit to Prague. You learn that he was the bomber here. Encounter #3 - GARM mission. Either a combat boss battle or a dialogue battle, depending if you helped him out in Golem City. Dialogue battle could end with him betraying Marchenko and giving you his kill switch. Desperate Measures feels like a better version of the Tong Rescue DLC from DX:HR. Since we do actually visit the security company HQ this time. I think we were supposed to visit Belltower HQ in DX:HR but it had to be cut. Man, DX:HR had a loooooot of cut content. Belltower HQ, Upper Hengsha hub, Montreal hub, India hub, Purity First facility mission, etc.
Man, after the fallout (pun fully intended) of Cyberpunk 2077, Mankind Divided just keeps increasing after playing Criminal Past. I was kinda low on Mankind Divided as a sequel to Human Revolution, because of how the end was (or was not) wrapped up. But man, I'm glad to report that I was pretty off. Gameplay-wise, Mankind was truly a patrician experience.
@@BoulderPunch I'm not surprised, one bit. I'm playing the game right now, and Im finding new things Ive missed. I was kinda jaded by the ending too much first time around to enjoy the road there.
I hadn't heard someone complain about women in games being made unattractive since the days of gamergate. Sent a shiver down my spine honestly. I guess the whole "I don't like my games getting too political" thing in the previous video on DXMD should've set off alarm bells
I really wish they hadn’t bothered with the 💩 rift mode and instead spent that time finishing the main game’s story and more meaningful dlc like a criminal past -which is great! I’d bet squeenix made them add that crappy mode for more revenue, just as they did the completely 100% pointless one time use consumable micro transactions in the main game. Mankind divided would have been so much better without square enix’s involvement
I’ve played these DLC’s a lot, and one thing that was mentioned here in this video that I noticed and absolutely agree with, is that desperate measures gives me a strong feeling that it was originally in the main game, and was likely cut for pacing reasons, because it feels like it’s part of the main story, but it really would have slowed down the main game significantly, because it was right on a knife edge where it was the perfect length the way it was released.
a criminal past is definitely the most intriguing one of the three imo, at least in terms of characters, plot and setting, maybe not gameplay. that budget malcom x line was also pretty funny, made me chuckle.
Hate to be a smartass - because overall your video was amazing! - but when you said there aren't many examples of video games set in prisons being a miss because it is the perfect setting for an immersive sim I had to cringe. You forgot about the sci-fi cult classic *Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay* which is all about breaking out of a maximum security prison and is dangerously close to being in the immersive sim genre.
Great vid, I personally truly enjoyed playing these and hope a new Deus Ex game will be announced in the coming years! What did you think of Human Revolution's DLC?
Mankind divided is an extremely good game, very dense, with a weird ending. Loads of Square Enix vibes (esp with soundtrack, sounds very similiar to RE 7) Actually come to think of it, much of the game is very a propos to the current state of affairs in the US. Very future looking. The liberal cucky boys should give this a play to see why they are tools. Looking forward to the DLC's. I hope I get Chronicles of Riddick vibes! Definitely looking forward to the next IP from Deus Ex
Man I totally agree, these games are just amazing and It’s sad that eidos most likely won’t make another one. As a side note the “attractive women” comment is a weird thing to care about in somthing like this IMO. Pretty much every game that has women in it always look fine to me.
They definitely need to get back to Deus Ex. There's also no reason in theory why Jensen has to be a trilogy, a lot of times doing a 4th is seen as a cash grab but if the quality is still there and the narrative isn't finished it can be justified. A third could be about Jensen and the fourth could be just before Denton... They're already talking about nano augmentation in Human Revolution and we get a snippet of theory progress on this at the end of Mankind divided but it's really not explored at all, another 2 games could be easily doable without it feeling cash grabby or trying to cram a little tiny bit of remaining story into 2 more games because there isn't a tiny bit left there's still a lot they can do between now and Denton.
Desperate Measures was meh, should have been integrated into main game System Rift was short and gimmicky and I hate puzzles Criminal Past is short but an absolute blast, you get NPC Wars and fight alongside fellow prisoners
'western developers don't have hot women anymore' Have you played a game recently? 'Take my hat off to square enix' For what? Making the safest decision ever... have a hot woman in a video game?
Could you please cover more Deus Ex stuff? And also, and this is meant as friendly advice to try and help, but your microphone is distorting, it’s audible, and it’s different sounding than the game footage. See if there is a way to turn the gain down, because it sounds like the gain is up too high and it’s not clipping, but it does sound distorted in this video. Again, just trying to help. Good video!
What’s the difference between the Day One Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition? PlayStation has the digital deluxe edition on sale right now but I have the physical copy of the Day One Edition?
System Rift was great when focusing on Pritchard and the stealth. But Shadowchild's look was so mismatched with the art direction and her lines so cliche that I thought no one would take her seriously as a hacker, a very badly written character overall. Criminal Past was great. Lots of likeable characters, great challenge, excellent replayability, great DLC overall.
Hey, I’m just wondering, what platform did you play these on? I’ve just finished DXMD for the first time and was about to start the DLCs....but there seems to be some issue. Desperate Measures is “ready to play” System Rift... reads “purchased” at the bottom of the description, but when I click on it I’m taken to the ps store where the “installed” button is greyed out and no option to play. A Criminal Past...when move down to this DLC it just reads “unknown” at the bottom and does absolutely nothing when I click on it. Has anyone else had this issue. There seems to be no information anywhere. I’ve uninstalled and downloaded again....but it’s exactly the same. I’m on the PS5. Not sure if this has anything to do with it. This is so frustrating. I’ve really enjoyed playing this game. I hope there’s a solution. Edit: Okay.....for anyone else having the same problem, I was rooting around on google and found this solution which worked... Went into settings, selected ‘users and accounts’ then selected ‘other’ and finally ‘restore licenses’
Lockdown gave me the time enough to think “eh, why not, I’ll get System Rift”. Within 4 days, I had all the trophies and was downloading A Criminal Past. Both DLCs are amazing, I’m actually annoyed at myself for not taking an interest way sooner. Though I must say, it frustrates me that Mankind Divided’s DLC stays separate from the main game. Assassins Creed 2’s DLC was implemented into the main game, and so why the same couldn’t be done I won’t know, and the same goes for Human Revolution’s Missing Link DLC.
Missing Link was integrated into the main game in the Director's Cut, it's actually kind of annoying though because it kills the pacing and feels like padding.
@@cookieface80 Yeah it was definitely a mistake to add it into the main game. It interrupts the build up to the game's climax and delays it by another 4-6 hours.
This guy just talked about the trend of western studios purposely making women unattractive? Ok he just earned a sub because it shows he's got an understanding and isn't afraid to talk about an uncomfortable truth.
All these notes find and read of all these option and yet no options of choices like in original Deus Ex and IW. Very sad. This was a Metal Gear Solid game not a Deus Ex.
How did I miss this video? Every time I get on CP 2077, I can't help, but think off all the things DXMD deos better. Don't get me wrong DXMD has its issues too, but 2077 didn't learn anything from them...or even try for that matter. I want to like 2077 it just gets tedious to play sometimes.
I love capeshit! Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was an amazing story, and the combat for Avengers was surprisingly fun, worth playing the campaign for now it's super cheap. But I guess superhero stuff will continue to live rent free in some people's minds. Those games are great, the deus ex games are great; no need to hype one up whilst downplaying the other.
where to begin? Mass effect andromeda, the last of us 2, watch dogs 2-3, assassin's creed series ( origins and beyond). There are others but It would be too long to list. Take ac valhalla, look at the woman npc and main character. It's like ubisoft is trying to make them look like dudes. the way they talk, the way they are standing etc.. Witcher 3 is a good contrasting example: the woman are attractive and feminine. That's the trend he's talking about.
@@fluiypj lol at the mass effect andromeda comment( you're the one who asked). but dude there's a difference between looking good with makeup( which I think is what you're referring to) and looking good plainly( which is what I'm talking about). I'm hoping Square Enix still sees the value in it.
Eduardo……I’m the same! I always save most games I really want to play throughout the year for November/ December time when it’s cold outside and I have all my Christmas lights twinkling away. Resident Evil Village was so cosy to play during Christmas last year. I just melted into my blanket with snacks and warmth whilst trudging through snow and fighting monsters ☺️
favorite dlcs of all time. playing thru them today actuallly
PRISON BREAK THEME
Nice catch.
Sands of Time.
And of course Ubisoft looks to have fucked up the remake.
i just found your channel, and rn i'm binging a lot of it haha, keep up the good quality dude
can you believe that? I got this DLC 8 years ago as part of the bundled game, as much as I have enjoyed the main game and first 3 DLCs I never played this one. I finally finished it days ago and man it was packed!!! the size of the map is huge!!! Totaly worth replaying again and again.
This game is 7$ on the store and it has all dlc
Mankind Divided is still a great game that I will hold dearly

If you want a good prison escape game I would recommend the chronicles of riddick game escape from butcher bay. pretty good stealth game.
Funny you mention that, I looked through my gog purchases and I bought it a long time ago and played it like 7-8 years ago, enjoyed it...maybe time for another playthrough?
Both played 😀
Shame they couldn't incorporate that yellow hoodie guy (Ivan Berk) into the game better. Could've worked well as a boss fight at the end of the GARM mission. Imagine something like this:
Encounter #1 - cameo right before the bombing
Encounter #2 - in the middle of the Golem City mission.
Views for my Mankind Divided videos have gone way up since.
Mankind divided would have been so much better without square enix’s involvement
what is with Deus Ex and its DLC being set in prisons for two games?
They should make a anime show
I’ve played these DLC’s a lot, and one thing that was mentioned here in this video that I noticed and absolutely agree with, is that desperate measures gives me a strong feeling that it was originally in the main game, and was likely cut for pacing reasons, because it feels like it’s part of the main story, but it really would have slowed down the main game significantly, because it was right on a knife edge where it was the perfect length the way it was released.
For me all 3 DLC's combined feels like another game of its own, Twice the total playthrough time for me.
a criminal past is definitely the most intriguing one of the three imo, at least in terms of characters, plot and setting, maybe not gameplay. that budget malcom x line was also pretty funny, made me chuckle.
Great video I enjoyed each of the DLCs
Delara telling me I didn’t die everytime I died was annoying because I kept dying a lot my first run through.
Haven't played it in years, but I did enjoy it.
This would have benefited from the Human Revolution Directors Cut treatment; splicing the DLC into the main story to be play chronologically.
I agree these are must plays
Mankind divided is an extremely good game, very dense, with a weird ending. Loads of Square Enix vibes (esp with soundtrack, sounds very similiar to RE 7) Actually come to think of it, much of the game is very a propos to the current state of affairs in the US. Very future looking. The liberal cucky boys should give this a play to see why they are tools. Looking forward to the DLC's. I hope I get Chronicles of Riddick vibes! Definitely looking forward to the next IP from Deus Ex
I’d love a series of these kind of videos for other dlc you play through
I do plan on making my way through Minerva's Den soon...
Desperate Measures was meh, should have been integrated into main game
System Rift was short and gimmicky and I hate puzzles
Criminal Past is short but an absolute blast, you get NPC Wars and fight alongside fellow prisoners
This game was shit on so hard when it came out...... Now look at it. Why is that? Because games have only gotten worse and worse since then
'western developers don't have hot women anymore'
Have you played a game recently?
'Take my hat off to square enix'
For what? Making the safest decision ever... have a hot woman in a video game?
Could you please cover more Deus Ex stuff? And also, and this is meant as friendly advice to try and help, but your microphone is distorting, it’s audible, and it’s different sounding than the game footage. See if there is a way to turn the gain down, because it sounds like the gain is up too high and it’s not clipping, but it does sound distorted in this video. Again, just trying to help. Good video!
I bought the editon that included all the DLC. How do you start them
What’s the difference between the Day One Edition and the Digital Deluxe Edition? PlayStation has the digital deluxe edition on sale right now but I have the physical copy of the Day One Edition?
Is this game with all the dlc included worth $6.74 I don't know I have not played any of the games in this series so just wondering
Desperate Measures is “ready to play”
System Rift... reads “purchased” at the bottom of the description, but when I click on it I’m taken to the ps store where the “installed” button is greyed out and no option to play.
Went into settings,
selected ‘users and accounts’
then selected ‘other’
and finally ‘restore licenses’
Was on PC, so no major issues.
Criminal Past is a Top 5, maybe top 3 dlc for moi.
Nice
This guy just talked about the trend of western studios purposely making women unattractive? Ok he just earned a sub because it shows he's got an understanding and isn't afraid to talk about an uncomfortable truth.
All these notes find and read of all these option and yet no options of choices like in original Deus Ex and IW. Very sad. This was a Metal Gear Solid game not a Deus Ex.
Very cheap from Eidos Mtl to buy a half game then have to buy again for more of the below IW history.
Too bad they went extra greedy and wanted their microtransaction money
Wait are all dlc featchered here
I love capeshit!
The idiots sold it for that alone they never deserved the rights to the game
Im a new one.. Good video
W
"The level design is with the likes of arkane" Arkane made dues ex mankind divided
interesting video, but that comment about attractive women was fucking weird. Creepy even.
The 'attractive women' note was a bit weird.
Only if you’ve been living under a rock
Quite overlook dlc probably because they should have been part of the main game. Thank god the game flopped as it's deserved.
True women ain't hot in games anymore
What unattractive people are you talking about?
where to begin? Mass effect andromeda, the last of us 2, watch dogs 2-3, assassin's creed series ( origins and beyond). There are others but It would be too long to list. Take ac valhalla, look at the woman npc and main character. It's like ubisoft is trying to make them look like dudes. the way they talk, the way they are standing etc.. Witcher 3 is a good contrasting example: the woman are attractive and feminine. That's the trend he's talking about.
@@goby009 we don’t talk about the character models in Andromeda, and no one has time to look good in a post apocalypse
@@fluiypj lol at the mass effect andromeda comment( you're the one who asked). but dude there's a difference between looking good with makeup( which I think is what you're referring to) and looking good plainly( which is what I'm talking about). Something easy on the eyes. Example: Tess from the last of us 1. Attractive and easy on the eyes but without make up
@@goby009 no I definitely see what you mean, and a lot of your examples were accurate. I just tend to think there’s a bit of bias in it. Emily Caldwin and Morgan Yu, ME3 Femshep, Anna (metro exodus), all attractive
Tbh I don’t tend to play a lot of AAA games so maybe the trend is more prevalent than I realize
@@goby009 OMG that chick from control was super hot too,
“2 thumbs up; quality level design; a lot of vents”
I think these deus ex games r a bit over rated , they’re good n enjoyable enough, but they r nothing too special and they’re not even close to cyberpunk 2077.. and it does make me laugh a little how people praise the level design in these games lol it is some of the most lazy attempts at immersive sim design in recent memory, yet people act like it’s some intricate ass dishonored level stuff, and it most certainly is not .. again, cyberpunk does almost everything better than these deus ex games do, and anyone telling u otherwise is delusional or being disingenuous
- complains about AAA games being generic and formulaic
- circlejerks a game who's level design is so vent heavy and unsubtle it's almost a meme how every single fucking house is connected to either an elaborate vent system or some hidden basement that has important stuff in it.
Patriciantv said it best. Immersive sim is a masturbatory term that means nothing and more someone uses it to explain why something is good less value their opinion has
I was on board with your video until you started saying incel shit. Thumbed down, clicked off, wrote this, about to remove from history. Do you, I you use digital women as JOM that's fine but I don't need to hear about it.
What did he say that offended your weak shit stained brain?
@Neon_Bayhem agreed
deus ex is not a cyberpunk game.
