this is not true since Sinatra surpassed anything crosby had ever sung...except maybe white christmas.....then we have Bennett and Nat.....and bobby... GET IT?
@@jadezee6316 Bing sang so many songs that are now considered jazz standards and have been sang and played by so many amazing musicians. It’s always hard to judge in who did it “better” but for sure we have a crazy amount of people to use as comparisons!
It couldn't be sung better. He handles a song that is so choppy with short phrases with such beautiful musicianship. That sonorous voice, clear diction, and wonderful timing combine to make this perfomance unmatched by anyone.
The song written by the late great Jimmy Van Huesen and Johnny Burke! Boy could they write! What a lovely song! Bing is the perfect one to sing it too!
I can think of two "Standards" which came from these "Road" pictures - "But Beautiful" (Road to Rio) and "Moonlight Becomes You" (Road to Morocco) and I think this man, like a few others (Astaire also comes to mind) just blasted out numerous hit recordings on tunes which eventually fell into the vocabulary of most jazz musicians and thus are called standards. The writers of these tunes were all the usual suspects and there was no direct connection where Bing favored one composer / lyricist combo over others, but always there was a strong sense of what a winning tune was going to be, and of course great skill in singing it.
The absolute best version. Crosby and Jimmy VanHeusen own it. Was just watching Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga's rendition...Fell short of this one. Tony Bennett and Bill Evans version was great. Clip from "Road To Rio" 1947 with Bob Hope, Crosby & Dorothy Lamour.
I learned this song listening to Tony Bennett/Bill Evans recording from their fabulous album. I thought no one could sing this better. Then I read that Crosby recorded it. I thought, "No way. It can't be anywhere as good as Bennett's." Well, I found this, and Crosby nails the crap out of this song. Why was I fooled again? Crosby's the greatest male vocalist of all-time. PS- If you don't know the Tony Bennett-Bill Evans Album you really should. It's really great.

I guess at least he sings it straight. Musicians can't ever just play the damn tune, which is what I'm trying to work on tonight which is the only reason I'm watching Bing Crosby serenading a very awkward looking Dorothy Lamour. Doris Day sings it, but her arranger was schmaltz happy and ruined it. I was sorry to hear Lady Gaga got her hands on it, but happily report that I shall ne'er watch it.
Give Lady Gaga a chance Edward she's extremely talented with a genuine appreciation for those who led the way and her duets with Tony Bennet are hard to beat for their artistry.
And then when they went to make The Road to Hong Kong, Bing felt Dorothy was too on in years and wanted the younger Joan Collins to play the lead, but Bob said he wouldn't do the picture without Dorothy, so she was giving a second-billing part. I guess Bing felt only she was doing the aging.

If Uncle Bing recorded a song, there was no point in anyone else covering it, because it could not be done better!
Gregory Porter sung it too. Beautiful rendition

Late to this party, but Perry Como has a wonderful TV version of this song.

Don't sleep on M. Ward's version
@@Henry-lw6yw Or Nat King Coles version from 1958, I prefer Bing's version over Sinatra's though.

As serious a song as Bing was ever to sing, and it suits his beautiful voice but beautifully.
One of the most loveliest songs ever, i think..oh my gosh Bing is hot here......a man who truely loves you, feels this way......
Quel talent Mr Crosby !
One of my favorite songs by Bing Crosby.
And his version is my favorite version of this song.
Mine too 🥰
pure class with Bing singing to Dorothy Lamour. The Lyrics to the song are pure poetry and what a story the tell
Bing was the best male singer, 'specially in the 1940's movies with Van
Huesen composing them

What a magical voice.
Thanks for this beautiful post…I’ve played this version many times over for the last few years.
Just the song itself is wonderful! I just got the sheet music for it today!
One of the best.
love it

Este é o professor Bing e a linda linda Lamour.
You can try to analyze all the qualities that make him great, but in the end, it is simply that Bing Crosby is never anything, But Beautiful...!
Bing was great, lest we forget, also, Jimmy vanheusen who wrote many of these magical ballads for Crosby, Sinatra and several others
My sediments exactly...💝💝💝💝love him
Road To Rio was Made The same Year Bob Hope Made My Favorite Brunette at Paramount in 1947.
The songs composed by Van Heusen, and then lyricized by Burke or Cahn are masterpieces
Johnny Burke wrote the lyrics, Sammy Cahn came a little later with Van Heusen
Love is funny, or it's sad
Or it's quiet, or it's mad
It's a good thing or it's bad
But beautiful
Beautiful to take a chance
And if you fall you fall
And I'm thinking I wouldn't mind at all

Crosby, o professor
What a beautiful job Crosby does with this song. The instruments sound quite unmusical compared with his voice.
