I feel like the original song encapsulated the feeling of being one of the parents of the child and how it felt in the moment when the tragedy occurred. It was loud and cluttered and overstimulating, and the melody itself was veerryyy melancholic. But this version really feels like the mourning afterwards.
thanks to this comment I almost kinda headcannon this version of the piece as like, the original song/the child's perspective being filtered thru the lens of the parents. The piano version definitely has a more present melancholy/sadness to it than the original, where the child is almost naively okay with his own demise. And this version is that song of the child filtered thru the parents perspectives, where you're still hearing the child's side of the story, but it's almost like a retelling of that story. I especially like when thinking of it this way when you get to 5:26, you hear the overall upbeat joy of the piece and then around 5:50 you kinda feel the parents almost choking up trying to retell this story. They can't even keep the straight face enough to reiterate the happiness their child felt even in his parting moment because the mere thought is sending them to tears. It's beautiful.

I always found it a bit hard to listen to the orignal. The lyrics and vocals with the instrumentals always made me start mourning my own losses, like i was the parents and loved ones of the child. But when I listen to this, I feel like i am the child. Still sad over having to leave everyone by so soon, but ready for whatever comes next.
this is genuinely amazing in every way, it doesn’t fill the whole song, but it gives the exact (almost more thrilling) feeling that kikuo’s original gave. I absolutely adore your arrangements and although I am a beginner on the piano, I wish to learn more and gain proper skill. I love this arrangement of kikuo's song so much! It keeps the light and fluffy aspect of the song but also added the heavier parts that felt a bit more melancholic which is nice. This piano cover of the song made me really happy!!!
5:25 this moment is so heartbreaking!!!😭😭😭 I feel like the parents of that child felt. This moment is so poignant, loud, choppy, angry, aggressive, crying, nostalgic and depressing. I feel like his parents finally realized what happened and they started having a panic attack. They scream heart-rendingly, sob and beat themselves, believing to the last that this is a nightmare. I noticed that you let off the pedals at this point, so it sounds a hundred times more heartbreaking than before. Crying, tears, lament, there are not enough words to clearly explain what I am thinking at this moment... This is a masterpiece!!! I have never heard a piano sobbing and squeezing out of despair. You geniuse, no one on UA-cam does covers like this, and I'm lucky that you do covers of Kikuo! I have never heard something so gorgeous and nuanced in my life. I went to music school a long time ago, so i cant quite put some of these specific details into words any more, but my ear can still pick up on some of the details you added into this. Beautiful. Stunning. The dissonance in the "mama" and "papa"s during the chorus sent a chill down my spine. Your fingers and your mind are a wonder. I have never heard something so gorgeous and nuanced in my life. I went to music school a long time ago, so i cant quite put some of these specific details into words any more, but my ear can still pick up on some of the details you added into this. Beautiful. Stunning. The dissonance in the "mama" and "papa"s during the chorus sent a chill down my spine. Your fingers and your mind are a wonder. Thank you so much for injecting so much life into one of my favorite kikuo songs.
