    Got this in black sparkle a couple weeks back, this video was a seller for me lol. The bass itself is amazing, such minor tweaks makes this instrument reborn.

    I’m usually not a sucker for pro players recommendations…but Mike from MXPX is a perfect punk player…I’m sold.

      That black hardware on the colorway seemed odd, but I dig it

    I love hearing masters talk about their favorite equipment. The WSJ has a series like that, but they I'd like to see something really in depth, where an expert goes into extreme detail about the reasons they've chosen their specific equipment.

    MxPx, to this day, is still one of the sickest, craziest, mosh pit-ist shows I've ever been to.

    I’ve always liked these basses. I started with an OLP which is like a. Heap knock off and they were always easy to play, was always fast on the fret board. I do wanna try the real deal.

    QUESTION: Can this bass be played in passive mode? If your batteries quit in the middle of a gig, can you switch over to passive quickly and continue performing? Thanx

      No, don't know why that other person said yes. There is no active/passive switch. Don't know why they don't put one on the stingray

      definitely no, but the 2 batteries last a long time and you should test them before the gig

    Love my sting ray it's a sapphire black 2007 but! The spectors I have are cheaper there louder definitely more growl and 24 frets and neck through body's ns2a is like that definitely cheaper then the new mm string rays I got a Spector dimension 4 about the same price as a mm string ray also the same more features and I got a bolt on spectors rebop 4 which is louder. Not saying that the mm string ray isn't a good value because it definitely is with its sparkling top end but other basses get that to. It would be nice if they would have the full 24 frets on there new basses and the 18 volt preamp is a improvement just seems like they could have the option for a neck through body with the bolt ons in there catolog just saying maybe bring back string through body's as well 🤷. It's a lot of 💰 for a bass with less features

    I’ve always wanted a Stingray. There’s something about it’s shape, the feel of the neck and the sound. This completely killed that for me and I’m gonna have to find a used one from now on. Really not a fan of the redesign.

  • @Capitan_Chaos

    For some reason it doesn’t sound like a stingray to me. I mean, it sounds like it’s missing something.

    • @robertnewquest656
      @robertnewquest656 6 років тому

      Older ones sound different. Anytime you take weight off a bass, it's gonna sound different.

    • @nomoredeathstars445
      @nomoredeathstars445 6 років тому +5

      Maybe because it’s 18v instead of 9v? The extra power should, in theory, affect the tone. More low end, more clarity, probably a tighter top end too. To me, it’s not really necessary, since Stingray’s already had plenty of that on tap... I grabbed a 2017 model at a discount when I saw they were making all these changes for 2018.

      CaptainChaos88 I own a 2018 special. The 18v preamps have quite a dynamic in tone. The tone heard in this video is quite treble heavy but I’ve mixed in a nice blend of hi’s and lows similar to older Ernie Ball models.
      This is hands down one of my favorite basses I’ve owned to date.

      It's always been that way on 5 string Stingrays, something akin to a Silhouette guitar. The only 5 string Stingray that looks like an actual Stingray (like a 4 string ray) is the Classic Stingray 5.
