  • The market for devices that allowed you to surf the internet from the comfort of your own couch. The Nokia 800 is a relic from that time, a not-quite-smartphone device that is surprisingly similar to the iPhones and Android devices we still use to this day.
    Join me as we take a retrospective of what the Nokia N800 could do, and look at what it still can do 14 years later.

    12 year old Print N Play would have crushed every one of those games, regardless of how choppy they were 🤣🥰

      I might be able to beat Mario 1... Not being able to run and jump will definitely be inconvenient, though.

    I used it a lot while traveling, it simply had one of the best wifi in range I ever saw, Skype and CIP Internet phones were very easy to use wherever you got wifi abroad you were a phone call from family.

      I did notice it had great wifi reception, and the previous owner had said he used Skype on it quite heavily. Looks like it was the perfect device to keep in touch.

    That is what I call "feature packed" especially for 2007. I had a Nokia n900 with maemo 5 when it came out. I still have it. What a device that was as well. Nokia were king.

    Wow thanks so much for making this video. I just got ahold of one and had no idea what it is, so I’m looking up videos on YT and yours is definitely helpful for being newer and relevant!

      @@PNPRetro yeah the video was good, as for info, that's not really necessary as I found some replacements on amazon, thanks for the offer though.

    When I first got this for my daughter I hoped she could use it at school and loaded several dictionaries on to it for Spanish, French, German as well as English and Wikipedia (text only). It also had language learning audio, music and videos (recoded for the limits) and the camera could be used to capture from the board or books for later use. Unfortunately the school banned the use of electronic devices.
    The two 32Gb memory cards were expensive at the time.
    It also worked with the N95 mobile phone for access to GPS and so the map and routing where better than on the N95. These do not work anymore - no map service.
    It still works but is too slow to be useable. The FM radio and playback of audio via the stereo speakers or to powered desktop speakers.

    I remember wanting one of these so badly back in the day. such nostalgia.
    I ultimately didn't get one because I had an Acer Aspire One notebook which was a double handmedown from my grandma, then to my mother, and then to me. I loved that thing until the copy of windows XP got corrupted and I had to move on. I think I used a kindle fire first gen and the family desktop after that

      I recently did a video on my original EeePC. That's what I had instead of this at the time, and I loved it, too! I still bust out the EeePC from time to time just to get a bit of nostalgia.

    I used to play Duke Nukem 3D, LxDoom and few other games a lot on my N810 back in 2011.
    Sadly the N800 and N810 didn't have drivers for the PowerVR MBX GPU so it wasn't possible to run games like Quake III Arena even though other devices with the same OMAP 2420 SoC could (for example Nokia E90)

    • @PNPRetro
      @PNPRetro  2 роки тому +1

    I had one of these, have no good memories of using it! I used to use nokia Symbian phones,communicators 9210,9300 and 9500 and thought this would be much the same and it was not. I think the n810 or n900 were supposed to be better devices bit never used them as switched to Android around that time

    • @PNPRetro
      @PNPRetro  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, I can definitely understand why Android devices blew these guys out of the water. It's neat to see how different companies tried to handle smart devices, but a unified os lead to far more software and features.
