If I remember correctly, around the age of six, he began having bad headaches and was hospitalized for a long time, eventually losing his 100% of his vision. His parents wrote to Filmation and thanked them for making the cartoon that kept him in good spirits throughout his sickness, and they sent back this personalized tape.
That's not possible because he keeps very private to himself, he is a very reserved and extremely closed off person, very reclusive, he's been offered tons of money to attend conventions or do interviews and he refuses.
What’s so classy about this, for whoever wrote the script, is that He-Man doesn’t say “Joshua, good news, I’m gonna be your friend, it’s all about me”, he asks him, really humbly, if he can ask a favor, and if Joshua would ALLOW him to be his friend. At a time where Joshua (hope he pulled through, btw) was probably feeling very sick and very powerless, He-Man, the Most Powerful Man In The Universe, gave Joshua the power to make their friendship HIS choice. This is such a fantastically kind understanding of child psychology. What a gift to give. Just wonderful.

I'm sure lot of us wish he-man would have lasted as long let's say the Simpsons. But for me this is the second best thing. Hearing he-man speak to a boy. The show always had such a good positive message at the end and even during the show. Men and women of all colors had their time to shine and were all important to the show.
