It wasn't rigged, but I think the reason people think this way is because even before the world cup, everyone, from players to coaches to presidents and so on were all saying how Messi deserves to win, how he has to win it and how it's destined to happen. It was always weird to me, even players representing their own country were my excited for Messi to win it they ever showed for their own team. It's not surprising that someone would think it was rigged. I think there were definitely biases to Argentina as most people involved were hoping Messi won even tbo they didn't actively do much to make it happen.
