LEARN from the negative reviews. Don't completely ignore them. But don't let it stop you. Just let it give you insight on where you might do better. 😊

This might be the single best piece of advice for game dev (or even life as a whole) seems so obvious but so hard to truly follow... such a good point

Wonderful to be part of this podcast, Thomas - thanks for the opportunity! It always feels strange offering gems of wisdom to people when you know that you've messed up so many times, but as they say, we learn as much from our failures as our victories. In our long chat I feel like we just scratched the surface of game dev and all its intricacies, but it was a real blast. Cheers! Oli

No way, I’m already doing this, right now I creating a cutscene/dialogue system that I am designing to be adaptable to any future game I make.

I happened to make friends with an art director from a pretty big studio most if not all gamers have heard of and he told me something. “If you’re in your comfort zone, you’re not growing” all feedback is valid feedback! In every aspect of game dev work.

1:28 Did Oliver just say... RPGMaker??? The entire RM community’s ears perk up simultaneously (but seriously you probably could’ve made a prototype in MV or MZ (heck maybe even VX Ace!) still awesome though, just sayin!

What's the story with Swords and Sandals being a reskin and not owning the IP?

That RPG maker might do better than the game. Discord was originally a small internal tool used by a game company.

What would you say about marketing your product mainly through trailers (cinematic type of trailers). I like the idea of that, and it’s also really efficient I guess (re-used assets etc.). Is it feasible, reaching out to big youTube channels that are oriented towards that? (3D sekiro-like, so definetly potential for movie like trailers)

Thanks alot! Just started my own indie game business, it sold one game the first year, but im super happy, the person got super interested and later hired me in his webdev programming ad as actor. Gonna continue and make a bit bigger games. I'd definitely suit into "indie" category, no interest in big 3d graphics or drawing that much, i would hate to do that. Only using Game Maker Studio commercial licence version so far, the other engines are a bit big, learned about Defold engine, but it is still a little bit big for my needs. I should draw more but I hate to be drawing a lot... luckily my kids draw funny characters and graphics for some of my games...

Webinar? Let me guess you're selling a course too that I bet you don't see the price for until after the webinar or some nonsense. Smells like a scammy channel.

4:20 what he said about pizza tower is just fucking wrong. good addictive movement and gameplay would work no matter what, maybe it wouldnt have sold quite as well but it still would have found an audience. this seems like a boomer game dev just saying "oh people like that cause of its 'quirky' (which fucking god i hate him describing it like that) artstyle when he clearly hasnt played the fucking game and is just talking out of his ass. think before you speak goddamnit

Facts. Observe freedom planet. terrible cutscenes and cringe (in my opinion) characters. Yet people love the game regardless cause it just plays good.
