Bad News: The Columbia Gorge from Bonneville Dam in the East to Columbia View Ridge in the West has been burned over by a forest fire for the last three weeks which remains partly uncontrolled. All roads into and through the area, including Interstate 84 are closed to all traffic. All hiking and trail access will probably be closed into Spring of next year. Good News: The fire moved so fast that many of the scenic areas in Parts 1 & 2 of these videos, although damaged, are not totally burned out. These areas should by partly restored by 2019. Come visit; the local businesses will desperately need your trade to stay alive.

It is so, so sad to hear! I did see the news... let's hope a phoenix will rise from the ashes! I've pinned this post in the hopes people will see it! :)

Latourell Falls was missed by the fire entirely (the park has been reopened), and Multnomah, despite sustaining some fire damage, came out relatively unscathed (the area is due to reopen mid-December). The bad news is that Oneonta seems to be one of the worst-hit areas; helicopter footage shows the whole canyon to be stripped of almost all vegetation, with landslides this winter likely to add almost another whole forest to that logjam.

I’m hoping as I read this information a year later in time that she is recovering and the landscape is on the way to healing...

I'm from Oregon and have been watching your videos for a few years. So glad you got to see this spot. I love fall, but when the falls are frozen is pretty magical!

I'm glad that you visited the area when you did. We planned to hike and photograph the area last year. We arrived in Portland on Sept 2, the day the Eagle Creek fire was started. 50,000 acres burned over the following three months. Much of the area is still closed and it will take many years to recover. We did, however, thoroughly enjoy the spectacular scenes of the Oregon coast.

It's so sad what happened... nature will recover, but maybe not fully in our life-time :( So yes, lucky is probably the right word.

Oneonta Gorge can be photographed better in the early or late summer when the stream in minimal, but then you do not have the full waterfall. The logjam impeding your access formed in a flood about 20 years ago. Before then, access year-round made this the most beautiful of the Gorge locations. Were it my choice as a local, I'd have blasted out the logjam years ago. Since you went there in the winter, you were spared the biggest problem: traffic. Most of the year now, you can access by car, but you cannot find parking.

I would love to go in the spring or early summer. I would love to experience the sunbeams in that gorge! :)

Hello Mads, I live 30 minutes by car from Multnomah falls , if you ever have a chance to be in the area the lookout point from the women's forum on the old hyw-30 that takes you on the back roads, there is a view of the gorge that is very scenic. I do go there quite often and I had a chance this past Autumn to photograph a low clouds panoramic images which gives a sense of the whole area from above. If you head on to shutterstock.com you will find the images I am talking about. I shoot primary for stock photography. (The name is Rigucci.) Look under Columbia River Gorge Oregon. Cheers.

I too was visiting the Oregon late November last year. I drove up to places including Columbia River Gorge, Silver Falls State park and Williamette National forest. I was turning 27 that week and my goal was to hike up to 27 waterfalls in Oregon. I did not meet the goal lol, but I did manage 21. I know the bush that you referring to, although it was drizzling all morning, I managed to get one good shot and retouched the bush out of the pic. You can see it here:

Congratz Bobin! That sounds like one good journey even if you only managed 21. And that's a fine result you got, great job on retouching :)
