I had to be a young girl when this movie came out. I'm 50 now and I can only remember a young mother dying from cancer and the song Sunshine on my shoulders. I came searching for clips of this very touching movie that clearly left an imprint on my life at a very early age.
There are two movies which had a tremendos impact in my life, although I was just a teenager: Billie Jack and Sunshine - still with me now, when I'm 56. God bless you ALL
Searched heaven and hell trying to find this film, saw it around 1972 at the cinema, the film and John Denver songs have haunted me since, This was probably one the best love stories of all time.RIP.Annie.
This movie will always touch my heart a young woman with a little baby got terminal cancer and journaled and the man who loved her and her child and then when the young lady died he raised the little girl as his own it was the best movie and this song too .
I loved that movie even when I was only around 5 years old 😅 weird.! My Aunty had sunshine & dirty dancing tapped on a vhs off of Austar. I got it on USB now. She passed away from cancer too. Those movies will always remind me of her ❤️😇💔
John Denver wrote this song? I guess it shouldn't surprise me, the lyrics have a _John Denver feel_ to them. I wonder if John ever made his own recording of it??
I remember we were both so young when l sang this song (My Sweet Lady) to my then childhood sweetheart. l was slowly plucking the guitar & l noticed tears fell from her eyes when l reached the part "..Close your eyes & rest your weary mind.. l promise l'll stay right here beside you.. Today our lives were joined, became entwined.. And l wish that you could know how much l love you.." l almost cried too. This song will forever make me remember her. I'm 67 now and a widow
I remember the movie quite well. Very sad. I'm in my early 60's now. But what no one talks about is the scene when he sang the whole song... TO HER! He brought her to a club with the band because he knew it was soon time to lose her and she was depressed from him with another woman and dying... he sat her at the edge of the stage and sang the whole song... right to her... I BAWLED! The audience didn't know how to react. One of the musicians yelled out, "Clap you dummies"... It tore a piece of my heart... as a teen. Burnt into my memory forever.
I remember it so well. I have the LP record of the soundtrack. I have tried for years to get the movie and a few weeks ago I found it on youtube. its in 13 clips and I watched every one. I cried at the end even though I new the ending. I love this movie soooo much xx
How do I get to watch this movie and where can I get a copy of the LP and original story soundtracks. I've been looking for the past 40 years since I lost my copy of the LP.
I remember seeing this movie, "Sunshine" on an ABC Movie Of The Week years and years ago. That, I think along with "Brian's Song" and "Go Ask Alice" were some of the best bio- pics ever made.
I have watched this movie many times with my mother. We both cried watching it. She died 20 years ago, and it is always bittersweet watching it without her.
This is the favorite song of my lola (grandmother) who passed away last year. I owe her my life coz she taught me how to become a good person. Thanks for the love and care Lola. The memories when we had together will be forever treasured in my heart.REST IN PEACE LOLA. we can still be together coz FAMILY IS FOREVER.
I found the book at the public library when I was 10 in 1994. I read it many times and eventually never returned it to the public library (I still owe the fines for it...I should go pay them)...anyway, I was so touched. My grandma died in 03 and then my mom in 2012 (she was 55, I was 27). I wasnt married, no kids yet...I felt like we missed out. It's amazing how you read some books or watch certain movies and it prepares you for moments in your life...this helped me.
How could I ever have known to be privileged to have grown up with this heart felt experience before my ears as a young man. I am still moved today as I was back then. The deepest love and loss in sickness shared with the world for the quest of love and peace. Play it again lease!
This song really strikes a nerve on me.When I lost both of my beloved parents to cancer. Watching them slowly slip away were the saddest times of my life. My mom first then my dad. RIP WE MISS YOU BOTH FOREVER.
My babysitter was reading this to me in the 70's and I insisted that she read it to me. When we were about to move, Kelly gave me the book. Kelly was the last babysitter I had - that and moving - that was a tough time. I still have the book. Kelly was the older sister I never had. We have re-connected on Facebook and the first thing I told her was that I still have the book. It's one of my most prized possessions. I look at the story Sunshine with 50 something eyes now. My niece is not much older than Jacquiline ( Kate) I would move heaven and earth to be with her if she were sick- we are very close; still, I can't imagine being Jacqueline's mother and not making every effort to make amends. In many ways she was a little girl who needed her mother,
Watched the movie in my teens, then again when I was studying as a nurse with a few other students. I remember leaving the movie theater crying our eyes out, we couldn't even go out for a drink ...
I saw Cliff De Young in El Pollo Loco near Disney many moons ago. Always loved him in so many movies. He had the perfect balance of an actor by making a living that way and yet not being totally recognizable to many people. This was a lovely song and the movie made you cry.
I remember the film with the song orinially written by john Denevor. And in the movie it was sang by Cliff Tobin De Young i remember when it came to the song in the movie my mates and i were sobbing .its amazing what a song can do to you.its always been one of my favourite songs .and now 60 years later i still play this version.❤🌈🌟🕊🦋🌹💖👍
I lost my Gilson on August 6th 2018..And he would play this song on the guitar and sing it to me when I was sad..A day doesn't go by that I don't think of him and the way he loved me..I know we will be together I cling to that hope..
as an older the when released it had a profound effect on me, the sadness tore at my heart strings, now being a romantic old bloke after nearly losing my lady in 2011 I am grateful she survived, the song has so much compassion & expression of love though in the movie the lad walked away for such a long time before returning.. I never once left my wife's side
I am slowly allow the song and the lyrics are just so beautiful here in I have always liked Cliff DeYoung's version more than John Denver's. I think the delivery is different I guess maybe because it was part of the movie I don't know but I just really love his voice -- it's so pure sounding or something and he sounds so sad.
Me too. I felt the same when i first heard it in the movie 40 over years ago. It's the delivery, voice, guitar n movie that gave us the feel n hence the difference.
I love this movie. Beautiful and sad story. I watched with my first girlfriend when I was 17. Afterwards, I watched several more times. But, the film was blocked by the owner, here in UA-cam, I think, and now I just miss it.
I watched this movie when I was 15 and never forgot it; so sad, and so beautiful. I've waited 45 years to see it again and watched it tonight with my 33 year old daughter. She'd read my book when she was in her teens and had heard my vinyl album, but we could never find the movie as it was never released on video or DVD. I recently found out it was re-made from the original film footage and soundtrack and re-released in 2018. We bought the Blu-ray disc, also available on DVD, from Amazon and waited patiently for a few weeks to receive it. We live in Australia. It came yesterday and we watched it together tonight and cried pretty much through most of it... It was worth every tear shed, and at the age of 60, I relived every moment of this movie from so long ago. This one can now be crossed off my bucket list!

WISH THEY WOULD PUT THIS ON TV AGAIN IT WAS SOMETHING WE ALL NEED RIGHT NOW FOR THE LADIES A CHICK FICK TO CRY OVER KNOW THE SONG SO SO SO SO WELL I LOBE YOU BRIAN PINDA IS LONELY FOR YOU COME HOME DARLING!!!
Saw this movie together with my wife in the 80's and it was the first time she saw me crying. This movie was so strong about a young woman who wanted to be a part of the living but could not, sadly. Strange to see the world today and all the toxic things which are going on. This woman was the best strongest person I have ever heard of. Sad to see people complaining about almost everything and all she wanted was take care of her loved ones.
Had a little girl at that time and had cancer didn't die from it but felt like I was going to so many different times I canned grew garden did everything a MOMA is to do kept on going and sometimes just wanted to die have had cancer several other times did that also alone had a husband but he just was the bread winner for the family I did laundry at night washing drying and ironing and crying in the basement that was my 20's for me!!!
One of the biggest if not the biggest crimes of the video industry is it is not on DVD. I remember when I first saw this movie the woman that I liked was torn away from me, but that's another story, it got me on to John Denver's music and saved my sanity. The guitar intro to this song is better than the original , (which I've learnt to play)the instrumental version on this soundtrack album s just magical in fact the whole album is wonderful. The technology of today can place the soundtrack on to CD.Why is it not on DVD?? COME ON
